Abstract

Background: Myalgia is the most common cause of Temporomandibular Disorders (TMDs) pain, which has a dull and mild character. In some patients with high somatization, it can present itself as severe pain, which can complicate the treatment. Additional pharmacological treatment may thus be needed. Case Report: Two female patients came with similar symptoms but different pain intensities. The first patient had a high intensity of pain, which became severe during examination. The second patient had more complaints but showed typical symptoms of myalgia. Both received physiotherapy sessions, but for the first patient, we added analgesics to help the patient endure physiotherapy. Conclusion: Additional pharmacological treatments, especially analgesics, can be used in helping myalgia patients with high somatization to undergo physiotherapy.

Abstract

An online training activity was carried out regarding the assistance of parents in maintaining the dental and oral health of pre-school age children living in the Serpong area, South Tangerang, Banten. This training was designed considering the high caries rate of Indonesian children over the last 10 years. Given the importance of developing good health behavior from an early age, the intake of non-cariogenic foods and oral hygiene maintenance habits should also be carried out as early as possible. The role of parents is vital in teaching and supervising pre-school age children’s behavior. Therefore, this training was conducted to increase parental participation in supervising children's eating patterns and cleaning the oral cavity. This should be followed by correction of diet and better oral hygiene habits to reduce children’s caries rate. Early assessments show most parents still have a wrong understanding of caries prevention in children, especially in children who still receive breast milk. The final assessment demonstrates an improved understanding in the etiology of oral diseases and parental assistance in dental and oral health maintenance in children.

Abstract

Background: Temporomandibular disorders are disorders that can involve masticatory muscles, temporomandibular joints, or both. The main symptoms and signs of temporomandibular disorders can be pain in the mastication muscle, pain in the temporomandibular joint area, limited movement of the jaw, and sounds in the temporomandibular joint, such as clicks or crepitus. Objective: To know the validity and reliability test of the Indonesian version of the Fonseca Anamnestic Index questionnaire in population ages 19-21 years in temporomandibular disorders. Methods: Observational analytic with cross-sectional study design. This study used a questionnaire with ten questions distributed via Google forms to 354 respondents (213 women and 141 men) aged 19-21 years in Jabodetabek. Validity test data were analyzed using correlation, and reliability test data were analyzed using Cronbach’s alpha. Results: The correlation test showed that the Indonesian version of the FAI questionnaire was valid with r > 0.1 and the results of the reliability test on the pain group were reliable with Cronbach's alpha > 0.6, but the results were unreliable in the non-pain group with Cronbach's alpha < 0.6. Conclusion: The Indonesian version of the FAI questionnaire was valid with a high correlation. Based on the pain group, the Indonesian version of the FAI questionnaire is reliable, while based on the non-pain group, the Indonesian version of the FAI questionnaire is not reliable.

Abstract

Mastication system is one of the most important parts of muscoskeletal system. Articular eminence as one component of the mastication system that works as a major component of the temporomandibular-joint (TMJ). The eminence inclination can be classified into 3 groups, flat, normal, and steep. The aim of this research was to assess the distribution view of eminence inclination in patients aged 19-21 years old at Dental Hospital of Trisakti University. This cross-sectional research utilized panoramic imaging in measuring the inclination of the articular eminence. The results of this research indicated that the methods used in the research have differences, whereas the inclination values between age groups have no significant difference. The average eminence inclination value of patient in the age of 19-21 years old still within the 30-60 value range. It can be concluded that the average eminence inclination value of the patient classified to normal category.

Abstract

Background: Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is a common type of Sleep-Related Breathing Disorder (SRBD) defined as a cessation of airflow at the nose and mouth enduring for a minimum of ten seconds. The awareness absences of this condition particularly in children will contribute to the growth and development abnormality which effected their adulthood. The difficulty in diagnosing SRBD/OSA’s children with Polysomnography (PSG) as a Gold Standard is another challenging issue due to the inconvenience and the high cost. Recent studies have reported the possibility of screening this condition with Questionnaires contains items of SRBD signs. Pediatric Sleep Questionnaire (PSQ) was one of the most frequently used questionnaire in this screening processed. Purpose: The study aims were to translate PSQ into the Indonesian language and measuring the reliability of the questionnaire. Methods: PSQ translated with a forward-backward translation technique and analytic observational with the cross-sectional design was conducted at school placed in Tangerang City with 154 respondents age 6-18 years old who fulfilled inclusion and exclusion criteria. Cronbach’s alpha was used to measure the reliability of each item question. Results: The Cronbach’s alpha for this study was 0,714 which was reliable for this questionnaire to be used for screening patients with SRBD. Conclusion: This study showed that the PSQ has good reliability which can be more optimized to diagnosed SRBD in children together with PSG.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic requires office workers to wear masks in their daily lives. The reported side effects of wearing mask in long time period include orofacial pain. Self physiotherapy can be an easy solution in preventing and treating the pain. The purpose of this training is to train people to be able to strengthen and relax their facial muscles to prevent masticatory muscle pain. The online training was conducted on July 5, 2022 to 29 participants with Indonesian Attorney General's Office health workers as the majority. The evaluation results showed improvements in all training topics regarding personal protection, side effects of wearing masks, and ways to overcome side effects of wearing masks. Self physiotherapy skills could not be done in detail because of the limitations of online communication. Online training can improve participants' ability to practice stretching and muscle relaxation better.

Abstract

Background: Bruxism is considered to be a common condition among the adult population, although data on bruxism are still rare. Bruxism is repetitive jaw activity during sleep (sleep bruxism) and awake (awake bruxism). In healthy individuals, bruxism should not be regarded as a disorder, but as a behavior that can be a risk factor for certain clinical conditions. Several studies have stated that the accuracy of self-reported bruxism is low because the individual is less aware of the behavior. Aim: To find out the concordance of the results of self-reported bruxism before and after self-observation. Methods: The type of research used in this research is analytic observational using a cross-sectional research design. The data was obtained by distributing questionnaires via a google form link to 142 FKG Usakti students class 2020. Inter Class Correlation (ICC) was calculated to assess the concordance between the two assessments using five items of Oral Behavior Checklist questionnaire (OBCL). Results: High concordance was shown between assessment prior and after self observation. The ICC results range from 0.636 to 0.838 for five items of OBCL Conclusion: There is a high concordance between the results of self-reported bruxism before and after self-observation.
