Abstract

Pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis optimalisasi sistem navigasi di Desa Amborgang melalui pembuatan papan penunjuk jalan berbasis sumber daya alam. Metode yang digunakan adalah kualitatif dengan observasi dan dokumentasi sebagai alat pengumpulan data. Hasil penabdian menunjukkan bahwa pemanfaatan sumber daya alam lokal seperti bambu dan papan dapat meningkatkan estetika dan daya tahan papan penunjuk jalan. Namun, diperlukan juga bahan material tambahan seperti cat dan paku untuk meningkatkan kualitas papan penunjuk jalan. Pengabdian ini memberikan wawasan tentang pemanfaatan sumber daya alam dalam pembangunan desa dan menyarankan bahwa keberadaan sistem navigasi yang lebih baik akan mempermudah mobilitas masyarakat dan meningkatkan kesadaran akan pentingnya pemanfaatan sumber daya alam secara berkelanjutan.

Abstract

Di Desa Amborgang rendahnya daya tarik anak-anak remaja dalam beraktivitas fisik atau tidak memperhatikan pemahaman tentang berolahraga dan juga  pendidikan akibat lebih memilih kegiatan yang tidak bermanfaat yang menyebabkan kenakalan remaja. Tujuan ini untuk mengetahui factor-faktor yang menyebabkan rendahnya minat remaja terhadap olahraga serta membuat strategi efektif untuk meningkatkan partisipasi mereka . Menggunakan metode kualitatif yang melibatkan observasi,  dokumentasi dan kegiatan sosial  sebagai bukti pengabdian . Hasil dari pengabdian ini setelah melakukan edukasi minat remaja semakin meningkat yang berdampak positif pada kedisiplinan, kerja sama, dan karakter mereka yang semakin membaik, dan partisipasi dalam kegiatan gotong royong dan pembelajaran tambahan turut berkontribusi dalam membangun karakter anak remaja yang lebih baik. Pengabdian ini menegaskan bahwa olahraga bukan hanya aktivitas fisik tapi juga untuk membangun karakter dan mengurangi resiko kenakalan remaja, dan pemerintah desa , masyarakat harus menyediakan fasilitas olahraga serta menyelenggarakan kompetisi olahraga secara rutin dengan mempertahankan  dan meningkatkan keterlibatan remaja

Abstract

Access to education that is close and affordable is a major obstacle in Patane II Village, Access to education that is close and affordable is a major obstacle in Patane II Village, Porsea District, Toba Regency. Because there are no schools in the area, children have to go to other villages to study, which has an impact on their physical condition, study time, and safety. Excessive use of electronic devices also has a negative impact on children's learning efforts. The purpose of this study is to analyze the challenges of education in the area and offer community-based solutions involving the government, community, and the use of technology. This study identifies various approaches to tutoring and research related to children's schools. The qualitative methods used are direct observation and interviews. The results of the study indicate that community-based solutions can effectively and sustainably improve access to education. Through the Student Service Practice Lecture Program (KPPM), children's interest in education has increased, especially in mathematics and English. In addition, students' social interactions with children help them reduce their dependence on electronic devices and increase awareness of the importance of education. Further collaboration is needed between the government, community, and educational institutions to achieve long-term goals, such as further school construction, improving teacher quality, and monitoring the use of electronic devices to increase children's learning opportunities.

Abstract

Program Kuliah Praktek Pengabdian Masyarakat (KPPM) memiliki peran strategis dalam mengintegrasikan upaya akselerasi pendidikan untuk mengembangkan potensi anak Sekolah Dasar (SD). Artikel ini menganalisis strategi KKN dalam menciptakan lingkungan belajar yang inklusif dan berkelanjutan, serta kontribusinya terhadap peningkatan kompetensi akademik dan keterampilan sosial peserta didik. Melalui pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus, data dikumpulkan melalui observasi partisipatif, wawancara mendalam, dan dokumentasi aktivitas KPPM di lingkungan sekolah. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pendekatan berbasis proyek, pembelajaran kreatif, dan kolaborasi efektif dalam menumbuhkan minat belajar, kepercayaan diri, serta kepedulian anak tentang pentingnya literasi Selain itu, sinergi antara mahasiswa KPPM, guru, dan orang tua terbukti memperkuat ekosistem pendidikan yang holistik. Artikel ini menyimpulkan bahwa KPPM tidak hanya menjadi wadah pengabdian, tetapi juga sarana transformatif dalam mempercepat pemerataan kualitas pendidikan dasar melalui pemanfaatan potensi lokal. Rekomendasi diberikan untuk mengoptimalkan model intervensi serupa guna mendukung tujuan pembangunan berkelanjutan (SDGs) di sektor Pendidikan.

Abstract

This service aims to identify factors that influence literacy and numeracy and evaluate the effectiveness of the literacy and numeracy improvement program in Nelela Village, SD N 173653. This study uses a quantitative descriptive approach with samples of students in grades 4, 5, and 6. Data were collected through literacy and numeracy tests, questionnaires, observations and interviews. The results of this service indicate that the average achievement of students in literacy and numeracy is still below the national standard, and the proportion of achieving the standard is still low. Factors such as limited resources, lack of teacher training and minimal parental support are cited as the main obstacles in improving literacy and numeracy skills. The literacy and numeracy improvement program implemented has succeeded in increasing the average student achievement, although there are still some obstacles that need to be overcome. The data shows that the average literacy and numeracy scores of students increased significantly after participating in this program. In addition, this service found that interactive learning methods and the use of educational technology have great potential to increase student interest and motivation. This service provides practical advice on improving literacy and numeracy in primary schools, including providing adequate learning resources, teacher training and development, using technology in learning and increasing parental involvement and support. By implementing these recommendations, it is hoped that the literacy and numeracy skills of students at SD N 173653 will improve significantly so that they are better prepared to face the next stage of education and academic challenges in everyday life.

Abstract

Writing business letters is an essential skill for students in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) contexts, as it prepares them to engage in professional communication effectively. However, many students encounter difficulties in producing business letters that are structurally accurate, contextually appropriate, and linguistically formal. This study aims to improve students’ business letter writing through the implementation of a Genre-Based Approach (GBA). The research employed a classroom action research design conducted in two cycles, involving third-semester students of the accounting department of Institut Bisnis dan Komputer Indonesia. Data were collected through pre-tests, post-tests, observations, and students’ written works, which were assessed using a rubric covering content, organization, language use, and format. The findings revealed that students showed significant improvement in their ability to construct business letters, particularly in terms of understanding the communicative purpose, using appropriate formal expressions, and applying correct letter structure. The results indicate that the stages of GBA building knowledge of the field, modeling, joint construction, and independent construction were effective because they explicitly introduced students to the social purposes and generic structure of business letters, enabling them to internalize both the functional and linguistic features of the genre. This explicit scaffolding not only facilitated students’ understanding of how language operates within professional contexts but also enhanced their confidence and autonomy in producing formal written communication. In conclusion, the Genre-Based Approach proves to be an effective and pedagogically grounded strategy for improving students’ business letter writing skills in ESP classrooms.

Abstract

This community service program was implemented at SMA Negeri 1 Namohalu Esiwa to improve the English communication skills of high school teachers. Many teachers in the area face challenges in using English effectively during classroom interactions, which impacts the teaching process and student learning outcomes. To address this issue, a community-based training program was designed and implemented, consisting of workshops, peer-teaching sessions, role-playing activities, and microteaching practices. The training emphasized practical communication strategies that teachers could immediately apply in their classrooms. Evaluation was conducted through pre- and post-test assessments, reflective reflections, and feedback questionnaires. The results showed a significant increase in teachers' confidence and ability to use English communicatively in teaching contexts. This program demonstrates that community-based training can serve as an effective model for continuing professional development, particularly for teachers in rural areas.

Abstract

This study investigated the effectiveness of Mobile-Assisted Language Learning (MALL) in enhancing students’ writing skills through the use of the CAKAP and Busuu applications. The objectives of the study were to examine the effect of the CAKAP application on students’ writing skills, to determine the effect of the Busuu application on students’ writing skills, and to identify which application provides a more significant improvement in students’ writing performance. The study employed a quantitative research design using a quasi-experimental method involving three classes: Experimental Class I (CAKAP), Experimental Class II (Busuu), and a control class receiving conventional instruction. Pre-tests and post-tests were administered to measure students’ writing ability before and after the treatment. The data were collected through writing tests and analyzed using a t-test. The findings revealed that students’ writing ability before the treatment was relatively low in both experimental groups. After the implementation of the applications, students in both experimental classes showed significant improvement in their writing performance. The t-test results indicated that the t-value for the CAKAP group (11.611) was higher than the t-table value (1.68657) at the significance level of 0.05 with a degree of freedom of 35. Similarly, the Busuu group showed a t-value of 11.501, which was also higher than the t-table value. These results indicate that both applications significantly improved students’ writing skills. However, the CAKAP application demonstrated a slightly higher effect compared to the Busuu application. Therefore, the alternative hypothesis was accepted, and the null hypothesis was rejected. The study suggests that mobile-assisted language learning applications such as CAKAP and Busuu can serve as effective tools for improving students’ writing skills in English language learning contexts.

Abstract

This study investigates the effect of using corpus-based reading materials on EFL students’ academic writing accuracy. Employing a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design, the study involved 50 undergraduate students from Institut Bisnis dan Komputer Indonesia, divided into an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group received instruction through corpus-based reading materials, while the control group was taught using conventional reading texts. Data were collected through pre-test and post-test writing tasks and analyzed using descriptive statistics and t-test analysis. The findings revealed that the experimental group demonstrated significantly greater improvement in writing accuracy compared to the control group. The results showed substantial gains in grammatical accuracy, vocabulary use, and sentence structure, indicating that corpus-based reading materials effectively enhance students’ ability to produce accurate academic writing. In addition, the analysis of performance levels revealed a significant shift from lower to higher proficiency categories among students in the experimental group. These findings highlight the importance of integrating corpus-based approaches into reading and writing instruction. This study suggests that corpus-based reading materials serve as an effective pedagogical tool to improve EFL students’ academic writing accuracy.

Abstract

Abstrak Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pendampingan belajar kepada siswa melalui program bimbingan belajar gratis di Desa Parbuluan IV. Program ini dilaksanakan pada tanggal 2 - 30 Januari 2026 sebagai bagian dari kegiatan Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) yang melibatkan dosen pembimbing lapangan dan mahasiswa sebagai tutor. Kegiatan bimbingan belajar ini mencakup beberapa bidang studi yaitu Bahasa Inggris, Matematika, dan bimbingan komputer. Metode pelaksanaan kegiatan dilakukan melalui beberapa tahapan, yaitu observasi awal, perencanaan program, pelaksanaan kegiatan bimbingan belajar, serta evaluasi kegiatan. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa program bimbingan belajar gratis ini memberikan dampak positif terhadap peningkatan pemahaman siswa terhadap materi pelajaran serta meningkatkan motivasi belajar siswa. Secara kuantitatif, terjadi peningkatan pemahaman siswa sebesar ±70% berdasarkan hasil evaluasi latihan soal, serta peningkatan keaktifan dan partisipasi siswa dalam pembelajaran sebesar ±65% selama kegiatan berlangsung. Selain itu, kegiatan ini juga memberikan kesempatan bagi siswa untuk memperoleh tambahan pembelajaran di luar lingkungan sekolah dengan suasana belajar yang lebih interaktif dan komunikatif. Dengan demikian, program bimbingan belajar gratis yang dilaksanakan melalui kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dapat menjadi salah satu alternatif dalam mendukung peningkatan kualitas pendidikan bagi siswa di Desa Parbuluan IV. Kata kunci: bimbingan belajar; motivasi belajar; pendampingan belajar; pengabdian kepada masyarakat; siswa. Abstract This community service activity aims to provide academic support to students through a free tutoring program in Parbuluan IV Village. The program was held from January 2 to 30, 2026, as part of the Community Service Program (KKN), involving field supervisors and students as tutors. This tutoring program covers several subjects, including English, Mathematics, and computer skills. The implementation of the program consists of several stages: initial observation, program planning, the tutoring sessions themselves, and program evaluation. The results indicate that this free tutoring program has a positive impact on improving students’ understanding of the subject matter and increasing their motivation to learn. Quantitatively, there was an increase in students’ understanding of approximately 70% based on the results of practice test evaluations, as well as an increase in student engagement and participation in learning of approximately 65% during the program. Additionally, this activity provided students with the opportunity to gain supplementary learning outside the school environment in a more interactive and communicative learning atmosphere. Thus, the free tutoring program implemented through this community service activity can serve as an alternative to support the improvement of educational quality for students in Parbuluan IV Village. Keywords: tutoring; learning motivation; learning support; community service; students.
