Abstract

This research explores the implementation of Digital Multimodal Composing (DMC) as an innovative pedagogical approach in teaching English for Computer Science at STIKOM Tunas Bangsa. In the era of digital transformation and Merdeka Belajar curriculum, integrating multimodal literacy into English language learning is essential to enhance students’ communicative competence and digital skills. This research employs a mixed-method approach, combining quantitative data from students’ performance and qualitative data from interviews and classroom observations. The findings reveal that DMC significantly improves students’ engagement, creativity, and language proficiency, particularly in reading and writing skills relevant to computer science contexts. Furthermore, students demonstrate increased motivation and autonomy in learning through multimodal tasks such as digital storytelling, video presentations, and interactive media production. The study also identifies challenges including technological limitations and varying levels of digital literacy among students. However, these challenges are mitigated through collaborative learning and guided instruction. The research concludes that Digital Multimodal Composing is an effective and transformative approach for English for Computer Science, aligning with global educational trends and the Indonesian curriculum reform.

Abstract

This study shows that social media has a significant role in improving English skills, especially in terms of learning and communication. Social media provides a platform for informal and enjoyable English learning, and encourages interaction and collaboration between users. Social media plays an important role in English learning because it provides access to various learning resources, encourages social interaction, and improves speaking skills. By utilizing platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook, students can access educational content, participate in discussions, and practice English interactively. According to student perceptions, YouTube is a very good social media for improving English skills. Almost most students in the fifth semester of STIKOM Tunas Bangsa  Pematangsiantar like to learn English using YouTube. This is because YouTube provides various types of English content that can help improve listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. In addition, many YouTube channels are specifically created for English learning, with materials presented in an easy and interesting way.

Abstract

Timely cocoa fruit disease diagnosis is critical for field management, yet manual inspection is subjective and inconsistent, while many accurate deep learning models remain too computationally demanding for practical on-device use. This study aims to optimize cocoa fruit disease classification by applying self-knowledge distillation (Self-KD) to a lightweight ShuffleNetV2 architecture without increasing inference complexity. Using a three-class dataset (healthy, pod borer, and black pod rot) with preprocessing and class balancing, ShuffleNetV2 was selected as the baseline and trained with Self-KD, improving accuracy from 96.84% to 98.34% along with consistent gains in precision, recall, and F1-score. These results indicate that Self-KD provides a learning-level optimization that enhances robustness and prediction stability in lightweight CNNs, which is especially relevant for edge AI deployment in agricultural environments. Therefore, the proposed approach supports efficient, scalable, and sustainability-oriented AI (Green/Sustainable AI) for smart farming, with potential transferability to other crops that exhibit similar visual symptom patterns.

Abstract

Kartika 1-4 Private Junior High School is a private junior high school located in Pematangsiantar City, specifically at Jalan Kartini No. 8, West Siantar District. Improving English language skills for seventh-grade students is an urgent need, making English language training crucial for educational practitioners at the school. This training can help students. The community service team's interest in the existing problem prompted them to organize an English training program, specifically writing skills. This shows that the team has a strong motivation to overcome the problem, especially writing skills in English. This training is designed to improve writing skills, which are important in various contexts such as academic, professional, or global communication. The focus on writing skills indicates a specific need that the community service team wants to meet. This training emphasizes the ability to express ideas and thoughts clearly and effectively through writing, not just copying words or sentences. The purpose of the training that has been implemented is to improve students' ability in writing in English, so that they can express ideas and information more effectively and clearly, especially when they want to write a sentence and form a paragraph correctly. The Community Service Activity was held for 32 seventh-grade students of Kartika Middle School located in Pematangsiantar. Students were enthusiastic about participating in this training activity. In addition, the seventh-grade students of Kartika Middle School also have more confidence in writing.
