Abstract

ABSTRACT Stress is a problem that often arises in this modern era. Stress can be acute or chronic and is determined by individual perceptions and the body's response to the pressure. Long-term exposure to continuous stress can lead to physical illness in the body (psychosomatic), one of them is skin. Unhealthy skin will also cause a decrease in self-confidence, causing stress. Therefore there is a need for psychotherapeutic intervention to overcome these disorders and to restore the body's condition. Strategies that can be done to deal with stress can include an active approach to the source of stress, seeking social support (emotional support or information from other people or seeing a psychologist) from the surrounding environment, building self-control (self-control) towards the source of the problem, as well as trying to find a positive side from stress. So that this service activity is expected to be able to educate the public, especially teenagers to be able to manage stress properly. The activity was carried out using the webinar method with 37 youth participants. The activity was carried out in 3 stages, namely pretest, limitation of material - discussion and post test. In the pretest and posttest stages the participants were given the same 5 questions. Based on the results of the pretest and posttest, it was found that there was an increase in the correct answers from 79.459% to 85.405%. This indicates that there is an increase in knowledge from the participants related to managing stress on skin health after the intervention. Based on this, it can be interpreted that community service activities with the theme "Stress Management Education as an Effort to Maintain Skin Health" can be carried out properly and increasing knowledge of participant.

Abstract

Background: Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are free radicals that can cause damage to skin tissue. ROS can be prevented by antioxidants in plants that contain phenolics and flavonoids such as in black garlic. To obtain more specific compounds, fractionation of black garlic extract was carried out using polar, semi-polar and non-polar solvents. Objective: This study aims to determine the antioxidant activity by the FRAP method, then make and evaluate cream products from fractions of black garlic ethanol extract. Methods: Black garlic is made by heating garlic using a rice cooker, then extracted by maceration method. The resulting extract was fractionated with 3 solvents namely water, ethyl acetate and n-hexane. Furthermore, phytochemical screening and antioxidant analysis with the FRAP method were conducted. Fractions with the highest antioxidant activity were formulated into 3 cream preparations with extract concentrations of 0.5; 1; 1.5% and evaluated. Results: The water fraction had higher antioxidant ability, 1.545 ± 0.128 mmol/g extract. The water fraction was then developed into a cream preparation and evaluated the physical properties of the three formulas. Conclusion: Based on the test results, the three cream formulas have good physical properties and are stable at room and low temperatures.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Red fruit (Pandanus conoideus) is a source of antioxidant compound components. Extraction methods can affect the antioxidant activity of the red fruit oil (RFO). Dry rendering is often used in conventional oil extraction, but it can potentially degrade antioxidant components. Currently, ultrasonic-assisted extraction (UAE) is a modern, yet underexplored method for oil extraction. Objective: This study aims to compare the extraction method on the antioxidant activity of RFO. Methods: The extraction methods included dry rendering and ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) using water and n-hexane as solvents. The flavonoid and phenolic contents, percentage yield, and DPPH free radical scavenging antioxidant activity were evaluated in RFO.Results: The results showed that the % yield with dry rendering was higher than in the UAE. The three extracts showed the presence of flavonoids and phenolics based on FeCl3 and AlCl3 tests. The highest antioxidant activity was in the dry rendering method (0,13% w/v) compared to UAE-water (0,98% w/v) and UAE-n hexane (1,47% w/v). Dry rendering could separate bioactive compounds with the highest % yield and inhibit DPPH free radicals with high temperatures, and without solvents. Conclusion: The dry rendering was selected as the extraction method, resulting in higher yields and antioxidant compounds in EBM compared to UAE.
