Abstract

Background: Hypercholesterolemia is a risk factor for causing death at a young age. The World Health Organization reported in 2002 that 4.4 million deaths were caused by hypercholesterolemia, or 7.9% of the total number of deaths at a young age. Hypercholesterolemia is a condition in which cholesterol levels in the body exceed normal levels. One way that can be done to prevent hypercholesterolemia is to control diet, namely by fasting. Dawood’s fasting is one of the obligatory fasts of Islamwhich is done with one-day fasting and one-day not. Objective: This study aims to determine the effect of Dawood’s fasting in reducing total blood cholesterol levels in Hidayatullah Islamic Boarding School students in Surabaya. Methods: This study was designed with a quasi-experimental study research method using a comparative pre-test post-test non-equivalent control group design. The sample in this study was divided into two groups, namely one control group and one treatment group from the sample selected by purposive sampling. The population studied were students of the Hidayatullah Islamic Boarding School in Surabaya. Result: The results of statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test showed an effect of Dawood’s fasting in reducing total blood cholesterol levels in Hidayatullah Islamic Boarding School students in Surabaya. Conclusion: From research result that has been done, it can be concluded that there is an effect of Dawood’s fasting in reducing total blood cholesterol levels in Hidayatullah Islamic Boarding School students in Surabaya. Keywords: Dawood’s fasting, total blood cholesterol.

Abstract

Abstract

Drug-induced liver injury is the most common cause of acute liver failure in the United States. Hepatocyte injury can be caused by the consumption of high doses of aspirin, leading to the formation of free radicals. Golden sea cucumber (Stichopus hermanii) can play a role in prevention of free radicals through antioxidant. The study used a post test only control group design involving 32 wistar male rats divided into 4 groups : negative control (K-), positive control (K+), and two groups treated with Stichopus hermanii extract at doses of 486 mg/kg BB (KP1) and 972 mg/kg BB (KP2) for 23 days. The results of the study with Man-Whitney test showed that neither the groups treated with Stichopus hermanii extract at both doses of 486 mg/kg BB nor 972 mg/kg BB doses of Stichopus hermanii extract led to a significant reduction in ALT levels when compared to positive control. There was no significant difference in ALT levels between the two extract doses. The conclusion of this study is the administration of Stichopus hermanii extract at doses of 486 mg/kg BB dan 972 mg/kg BB for 23 days can not reduce ALT levels in aspirin-induced experimental animal.

Abstract

Introduction: Cervical cancer is caused by persistent infection with HPV transmitted through sexual intercourse. Chemoradiation is often used in the treatment of cervical cancer because it can reduce recurrence and further cell growth and can increase survival. Increased Platelet Lymphocyte Ratio (RTL) can be used to track the progression of cervical cancer and the degree of differentiation of cancer cells. High RTL indicates a worse degree of cell differentiation and vice versa. Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the difference in RTL in cervical cancer patients pre and post chemoradiation therapy. Methods: The research design is cross-sectional with total sampling. Data was taken from medical records of cervical cancer patients at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, RSPAL dr. Ramelan Surabaya in year 2000 - 2023. Results: The average RTL for cervical cancer patients before chemoradiation was 193.1293; and after chemoradiation 169.5459. The results of the Wilcoxon signed rank test showed a significant decrease (p < 0.001). This research proves that there is a significant difference in the Platelet Lymphocyte Ratio (RTL) of stage ≥ IIB cervical cancer patients pre- and post-chemoradiation therapy. Statistical tests show significant results. Conclusion: Chemoradiation has been proven to significantly reduce RTL, and it can be concluded that giving chemoradiation to cervical cancer stage IIIB and above provides good results.
