Abstract

Learning conditions in the Tourism Travel Business Department of SMK Negeri 1 Ternate City require an active, innovative, creative, effective, and fun learning concept. This is based on material characteristics such as Booking Flight Fare Calculation, which requires students to understand the theory as well as be able to apply it later at the implementation of street vendors and when they work in the Tourism Industry later. The purpose of this study is to increase the activeness of students and student learning outcomes through the application of google classroom and google meet. This type of research is classroom action research (Classroom Action Research). The research was carried out in collaboration between researchers, teachers and students. The research subjects are 60 students of class XI.SMK Negeri 1 Ternate City in the 2020/2021 academic year. Data collection techniques used simple observations and questionnaires. The research procedure includes the following stages: (a) planning, (b) implementation (c) observation, and (d) reflection. Based on the research results, the implementation of Google Classroom and Google Meet has an increase in the activeness of students. Where from cycle I,  33 respondent Choose agree with the use of the application, and student learning outcomes obtained was 53.4%. In cycle II the activeness of students increased to 70 percent and student learning outcomes achieved 76.7%. There was an increase from cycle I to cycle II of 23.3%. Therefore it can be concluded that this study is successfully increased students activity in the process of teaching and learning.

Abstract

Pengembangan profesi guru dapat dilakukan dengan salah satunya adalah penulisan karya tulis ilmiah. Atas hasil analisis yang dilakukan pada sepuluh perwakilan guru di sekolah dasar di Kota ternate, teridentifikasi beberapa hal yang menjadi faktor kurangnya pengembangan profesi. Penelitian ini membahas tentang pengembangan profesionalisme guru dalam menulis karya tulis ilmiah. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian deskritpif kualitatif. Hasil analisis data diperoleh dari wawancara, observasi keterlibatan peserta dalam penulisan draft KTI serta kuesioner hasil penilaian peserta terhadap penelitian dan latihan menulis KTI. Hasil wawancara menunjukkan bahwa motivasi, teknik penulisan dan pengumpulan data merupakan hal yang menjadi kendala dalam menulis karya tulis ilmiah. Dari hasil observasi penulisan lima aspek isi karya tulis, semua peserta (100%) menulis latar belakang, rumusan masalah, pengertian, ulasan dan desain dalam metode penelitian. Sedangkan 4 aspek ditulis oleh 9 (90%) peserta yaitu judul, tujuan penelitian, teknik analisis data, deskripsi penelitian. Adapun penggunaan tabel hanya ditulis oleh 8 (80%) responden, 6 atau 60% menulis kesimpulan, dan tidak ada yang menulis saran penelitian. Untuk menilai kebermanfaatan pemberian materi serta latihan penulisan karya tulis yang dilakukan bagi guru-guru diberikan kuesioner dengan 18 indikator. Hasil analisis kuesioner menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 0.2 % responden yang berasumsi bahwa penulisan KTI kurang bermanfaat, 1.5 % responden merespon bermanfaat, dan 7.8% menjawab sangat bermanfaat. Rekomendasi yang dapat diberikan adalah untuk mengembangkan profesionalisme guru dibutuhkan sinergi dari institusi sekolah, muyawarah guru mata pelajaran, pelatihan menulis yang terus menerus bagi guru sehingga termotivasi dalam mengembangkan diri untuk menulis.

Abstract

This study aims to: 1) lecturers 'activities applied in the classroom and, 2) investigating the difficulties of lecturers in applying English in class, the instruments used are observation and interview results, the results of the study indicate that the lecturers' activities in the speaking class meet all proposed criteria in Flanders’s interaction analysis (FIAC) category which consists of three categories Lecturer activities applied in four semesters include all content in the Interaction Analysis Category Flanders (FIAC).  In which there are three categories of Indirect Talk, Direct Talk and Students Talk. There are lecturer activities starting from the beginning of the class until the end of class learning, such as receiving feelings, praise or encouragement, accepting or using student ideas, asking questions, teaching / give lectures, give direction, criticize or justify authority, student's speech response, student talk initiation, and silence / pause / confusion. From three categories and ten points lecturer one (L1) and lecturer two (L2) has been fulfilled class activities but L1 and L1 admitted that many students have lacked vocabulary in speaking therefore students did not confident in using English in class.

Abstract

This research focuses on the analysis of love and hate in the short story “The Mother” by W. Somerset Maugham. The problem question is: How does the author describe love and hate in this novel. The focus of this research is about love and hate and elements of literature that are built in short stories. As a literary work, this analysis uses a descriptive research design that is used to describe the data based on the findings obtained in statements related to love and hate in short stories. The main data is the short story "The Mother" supported by secondary data obtained from various sources, books, magazines and author biographies. Based on the results of data analysis, it was found that the author described the love in this short story as the love of Eros and Agape. Eros love is described as a relationship due to physical attraction between a man and a woman and vice versa. The main love depicted is the Agape type of love. Although this type of love is a love that does not prioritize itself, it is described as an unusual mother's love for her child. Does not want her child to get another love, but only wants her child for herself. As for hate, the author describes a person's excessive hatred because of his love for his child, the mother becomes hateful, emotional and does not like other people so that the peak of the hatred is realized by taking the lives of others.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to explore the effectiveness of using animated video in teaching descriptive writing at the fifth semester students of English Education study program of Khairun University. This research employed quantitative descriptive method from which the data of the test are taken from pre and posttest. 20 respondents were chosen by purposive sampling technique to be involved in this research. The data collection technique in this study was a test prior to teach writing using animated video and a posttest after that. From the data analysis of pretest, the respondent obtained the average score of 59.58 whereas their posttest score was 76.18. The score raised 16.60 points from the first to the second test. Overall, using animated video was proved effective in teaching descriptive writing at the fifth semester students of English education study program.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the extent to which storytelling using video in improving students' speaking skills at SMA Negeri 5 Ternate City. This study used a quantitative method with a t-test, with a sample of 20 students of grade ten students from class X-E. The instrument of this research was pretest and posttest to collect data. The results of this study indicate that the posttest average value is 70.05 higher than the pretest average value of 51.15. The results indicated that students average score of speaking skill were still low before researcher implemented retelling story technique. The t-test value of 12,857 is higher than the t-table value of 1,729 at a significance level of  0,05 with 19 degrees of freedom. This means that H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected. In conclusion, the use of retelling stories is effective for improving students' speaking skills at SMA Negeri 5 Ternate City.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out the students' speaking skill through the medium of animated short movie that will retold by students. The sample of this research was 20 students from X grade of SMA Negeri 1 Ternate City. The method in this research was mixed method. The instrument used in this research was a short movie entitled "The Present". The data were analyzed by using the speaking scoring rubric by calculating student scores individually and looking for the total score. The data was presented in the form of descriptions, tables and graph. Based on the results obtained from the research, the speaking ability of X grade students of SMA Negeri 1. Ternate City is in Average level with the total score was 52. The results score of students' abilities in the grammatical aspect of speaking was 47, in the vocabulary aspect was 55, on the comprehension aspect was 58, on the fluency aspect was 52, and on the pronunciation aspect was 48. Based on these results, it is suggested that students should practice speaking in English both outside and inside the classroom in order to improve their ability to understand and master the aspects of speaking English. Teachers are advised to pay more attention to students' speaking skills and provide opportunities for students by creating various interesting activities that allow students to practice their speaking skills in English.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the implementation of project-based learning in designing  Ecotourism learning media and to asses students perception in project based learning application. The study involves 24 respondents of the 6th semester students of English Education Study Program, Khairun University.  This study administered questionnaires and evaluation test of writing and speaking as the instrument to collect the data. To analyze the data, this research employed mixed method of quantitative and qualitative descriptive analysis. The result of the analysis of students’ perceptions was described with a likert scale, while students’ achievement from the implementation of Project Based Learning was evaluated by their presentation test.  The result of the study showed that 24 respondents obtained 84.72 in their evaluation of writing and speaking test. It is in the category of very good; while from students’ understanding on learning process of a project were 95.14. The suitability of the content in the English for ecotourism course is also in line with project-based learning where there is conformity in the teaching and learning process and was followed by a value of 82.92; while 64.58 score by participants that acknowledge the project based learning increased their skills, motivation and mastery of the material and fostered their learning. In terms of the implementation, students obtained 83.00 of their overall score from presentation test.

Abstract

Research has found out that speaking skill covered pronunciation as the fundamental significance in linguistic proficiency. Surprisingly, in most English Language test, pronunciation appears to be the subject that is often neglected. Despite the generous amount of media utilize to practice utterance of English syllable or words, the supply of pronunciation teaching textbook source is scarce. By employing research and development (R&D) of 4D design, this study aimed at describing the model, validity and reliability of the Pronunciation textbook for English Education students. This research involved 38 students and 2 (two) experts’ rater to examine the book based on BSNP (Badan Standar Nasional Pendidikan or National Education Standard Agency) criteria. The result pointed out, that the model of pronunciation book corresponded with the KKNI standard curriculum and based on BSNP Criteria. The questionnaires validation result from respondent showed that rxy is 0.64 with the category of valid, and the reliability test result from Cronbach Alfa showed that r11 is 1.04 in the level of ?1.00 with the category of very high reliability. The validity and reliability of the product were also verified by two experts’ rater and analyzed by using Aiken index technique. In this analysis, the V index showed the value of 0.91 with the category of very high (from the scale of 0.8-1.00) for the content eligibility, presentation, language and graphic.  Accordingly, Pronunciation textbooks model developed based on communicative language teaching approach is valid and reliable.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to investigate the factors contribute students’ anxiety in leaning English and their strategies to reduce the anxiety. This research used qualitative descriptive method. The subject of the research were 40 students of the second semester of the English Language Education study Program Khairun University. The data were collected by using questionnaire and interview. The result of this research show that most of the students are at “Anxious” level students. There are 18 (45%) students who experience “Anxious” level, 10 (25%) students are in “Mildly Anxious” level, 9 (22.5%) students are in “Very anxious’ level, 2 (5%) students are in “very relaxed”, an the last 1 (2.5%) students are in “relaxed” level. Furthermore, there were three factors can cause anxiety based on FLCAS, which included communication apprehension (CA), test anxiety, and fear of negative evolution and there were five strategies that the students can use to minimize their anxiety which included preparation, relaxion, positive thingking, peer seeking, resignation.
