Abstract

Kata kunci: wayang purwa, werkudara, tindak tutur direktif, pola prosodi POLITENESS STRATEGY OF DIRECTIVE SPEECH ACT OF WERKUDARA IN THE WAYANG PURWA: A PROSODIC ANALYSISAbstract The Werkudara (WR) character has a peculiarity that makes this character unique and different from other characters in the shadow-puppet performances. Linguistically, the WR character has a harsh speaking style, never speaks softly, and tends to be disrespectful to his speech partners. The purpose of this study is to describe the prosody pattern of the directive speech acts of the politeness strategy performed by the Werkudara character in the puppet performance. This study uses the directive speech-act data performed by the character Werkudara in Dewa Ruci's play by selecting the target sentence directive speech-act requestives requesting sub-function with the structured target sentences S-P-Pel ‘aku jaluk pamit’ and the directive speech acts question sub-function of asking with the structure what-S?. The research source used in this study was the video recording of the Dewa Ruci puppet performance by Ki Nartosabdo. Furthermore, the speech data is processed using the Praat application guided by the IPO rules (Instituut voor Perceptie Onderzoek) to describe and perceive the prosody aspects of Werkudara's speech to each of his partners. This study uses the pragmatic theory as a tool to explain prosody patterns in building politeness with speech partners. The results of the study indicate the three prosody patterns in the speech acts of the Werkudara as follows. First, the context of the speech partners (+ D, + P 'met') in Werkudara's speech uses the prosody pattern of downward pitch or declination contours, high pitch range (melodic), and long duration. Second, the two contexts of speech partners (-D, + P 'met') use a downward or declination prosody pattern, a small pitch range (monotone), and a long duration. Third, the context of speech partners (+ D, + P 'mat') uses a prosody pattern of rising or inclination contours, small pitch ranges (monotone), and short duration.Keys word: shadow puppet, Werkudara, directive speech acts, prosody patterns.

Manduro Village has a similar name to Madura Island. The similarity of the name positively correlates with the likeness of language and local culture. They call themselves Oreng Manduro 'Madurese'. The language used by residents is the Madurese Language (after this referred to as ML). This study aims to look at variations of language from the social perspective, in the form of age and ethnic main variables. Of the two variables, changes in ML spoken by adults with what children say and how social contact affects these changes are also examined. This research is descriptive-qualitative research with the leading theory of socio-dialectology. The research data was taken from the informants selected by purposive sampling using the Swadesh list. Data retrieval technique is by recording and note-taking. The results show that ML that is spoken by adults and children has a difference. Differences are seen in phonological terms so that they appear to cause the differences and changes in both. From the total data found, phoneme changes significantly occur in phonemes / ? / to phonemes / ? /. Phonemes / ? / are phonemes spoken by ML speakers of adult age, while phonemes / ? / are phonemes spoken by children in the same lexicons.

Abstract

Children’s language acquisition begins at the age of one, that is when the child begins to learn to speak. From that age, children have possessed speech act competence. The speech act competence that is obtained by preschool-age children may cover different kinds of speech acts, such as directive, representative, and expressive acts. These speech acts may be realized in language form as one or two words that describe a particular function of speaking. The objectives of this research are (1) to describe the competence of speech act forms of preschool-age children, (2) to describe the competence of speech act functions of preschool-age children, and (3) to describe the competence of speech act types of preschool-age children. This research uses a qualitative research approach with the descriptive method. The research data consists of utterances of preschool-age children that contain speech act forms, functions, and types. The data analysis model uses the interactive model by Miles and Huberman with an approach based on pragmatics theory and ethnography of communication. Research results show that preschool-age children have possessed (1) competence of speech act forms of interrogatives, imperatives, and declaratives of single syllables, single words, and single sentences; (2) competence of speech act functions of asking, ordering, stating, and inviting; and (3) competence of speech act types of directives, representatives, declaratives, and expressives.

Abstract

Women are often seen as an incapable group that does not have more capacity than men, but women are proven to have an important role in the development of character education. A novel as literature is a learning medium to introduce the essential role of women in character development amid the rise of contradictory reading materials containing harmful content contrasting with Pancasila values. This research aimed to examine the implicit values of character development in the novel "Si Anak Pemberani" regarding women's roles. The analysis was conducted using a qualitative research method with a descriptive approach to determine the values shown by female characters in this novel. Data was collected by emphasizing the dominant female characters in values' building and distributions. The collected data had been presented in a table to identify whichever values appealed to specific figures clearly. The results showed that those values consisted of tolerance, curiosity, social care, environmentalism, integrity, responsibility, religiosity, and nationalism. This study practically can be helpful for educators in either formal or non-formal institutions to habit the young generation in reading books containing positive values as a character development method.
