Abstract

Communication skills are the main indicator in the success of building social relations in the community. However, the presence of the COVID-19 pandemic over the past two years has had an impact on society. Social restrictions are one of the reason for the limited interaction and communication of a dynamic society. The school environment is one institution that has received the impact of this pandemic. Children and teachers must carry out teaching and learning activities through the Distance Learning (PJJ) method. This survey study will discuss how santri dhuafa can maintain mental resilience with healthy communication skills. Among the effects that are strongly felt due to the lack of interactive communication between teachers and students is psychological pressure. The pressure with this PJJ activity causes students to have difficulty doing the tasks given by the teacher. Facilities such as the unavailability of an internet connection increasingly interfere with learning, especially for students who are in the interior. The worst result is that children are no longer interested in participating in learning to the fullest. For students with poor economic conditions, this situation will be even more difficult. An unstable economy increases the power of students as well, this situation is often one of the other triggers that have an impact on students mental resilience as specialiy in Bogor Area. communication skills become an important part for students in its difficult situation to catching up learning.

Abstract

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) is an interdisciplinary educational approach that focuses on the practical application of knowledge and skills in these four areas. STEM education aims to develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills essential for success in the 21st century. STEM education has become increasingly important in recent years as technology has transformed nearly every aspect of our lives. This research aims to: (1) What are the benefits of STEM in-action projects? (2) how can STEM in-action projects be effectively implemented in educational and professional settings? (3) what are the real-world applications of STEM, and how are they impacting society? and (4) what is the future of STEM in action, and what trends and developments are shaping its direction? This research is a literature review involving 17 journals published in 2019-2023. The results of this study found that: (1) STEM can help the student to develop critical thinking skills, problem-solving skills, and creativity; (2) provide students with opportunities to work on authentic problems, promoting collaboration and teamwork, and provide professional development for educators; (3) healthcare, energy, and the environment, (4) data science and artificial intelligence; (4) the growing demand for STEM professionals, and the need for greater diversity and inclusivity in STEM fields. STEM in-action: Real-world applications of STEM is a concept that seeks to bridge the gap between theory and practice in STEM education. It is an approach that emphasizes applying STEM principles in real-world scenarios, allowing students to see how the concepts they learn in class are relevant to the world around them. STEM in action is a fundamental approach to STEM education that helps students develop practical skills and knowledge while preparing them for the challenges of the 21st century

Abstract

Kandungan Al-Qur’an memiliki ayat-ayat mengenai Science, Technology, Engineering dan Mathematic (STEM) yang kemudian dapat disebut dengan Quranic STEM (Q-STEM). Q-STEM bisa menjadi salah satu metode pendekatan untuk perkembangan dakwah digital karena unsur-unsur STEM tidak terlepas dari perkembangan era digital. Q-STEM menghadirkan solusi dari permasalahan kehidupan baik secara nyata maupun digital dengan dasar nilai-nilai Al-Qur’an sebagai pedomannya sehingga pemecahan masalah dilandasi tidak hanya oleh pengetahuan, tetapi juga merujuk kepada sumber kebenaran yang pasti yakni Al-Qur’an. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat instrumen yang valid dan reliabel pada kuesioner pendekatan Q-STEM terhadap perkembangan dakwah era digital di setiap itemnya. Instrumen memiliki 34 pernyataan kuesioner, dengan 24 pernyataan Q-STEM dan 10 pernyataan dakwah era digital. Kuesioner diberikan kepada 84 mahasiswa IPB University yang mengikuti Lembaga Dakwah Kampus (LDK) dan telah mengetahui dasar dari konsep STEM. Seorang pakar STEM dan seorang pakar Al-Qur’an menguji validitas isi instrumen dan hasil uji reliabilitas menunjukkan nilai Cronbach’s Alpha mendekati satu yaitu 0,954 artinya sangat reliabel. Untuk melihat data valid dan reliabel pada setiap itemnya, data dianalisis menggunakan perangkat lunak Winsteps versi 5.5.0 dengan analisis model Rasch (RMA) pada reliabilitas pisahan responden dan item (person and item reliability and separation), tingkat kesulitan item (item difficulty level), polarity item, item yang tidak tepat (misfit item), unidimensional, dan person map item. Temuan mengungkapkan bahwa item valid, reliabel, dan sesuai untuk mengukur pendekatan Q-STEM terhadap perkembangan dakwah era digital. Oleh karena itu, instrumen dapat digunakan untuk penelitian dan dapat dikembangkan di masa yang akan datang.

Abstract

Penanaman akhlak pada anak tergolong kurang baik sehingga mengakibatkan perilaku anak kurang baik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui problematika pendidikan akhlak anak dalam keluarga pada masyarakat muslim di Palopat Maria Kota Padangsidimpuan. Penelitian yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kualitatif yaitu menggambarkan fenomena-fenomena yang terjadi di lapangan. Instrumen pengumpulan data yang digunakan terdiri dari observasi dan wawancara. Analisis data menggunakan teknik deskriptif kualitatif, yakni berupa pemaparan data secara tertulis mengenai data-data yang terkait, baik berupa tertulis maupun lisan dari informan penelitian. Hasil penelitian menemukan bahwa (1) problematika pendidikan akhlak anak di Palopat Maria Kota Padangsidimpuan terdapat tiga malasah. Pertama, problem orang tua atau pendidik yaitu pengetahuan orang tua yang minim, kurangnya perhatian orang tua, kesibukan orang tua, orang tua yang kurang memotivasi anak dalam nilai-nilai akhlak mulia. Kedua, problem anak (peserta didik) anak yang suka melawan orang tua, anak yang suka main judi, terutama judi online yang saat ini sedang marak-maraknya, anak yang suka mengonsumsi narkoba, anak yang suka merokok, dan anak yang menyalahgunakan teknologi. Ketiga, problem dari aspek lingkungan yaitu salah memilih teman bergaul dan tontonan sosial media. Terdapat dua cara mengatasi atau solusi yang ditawarkan untuk mengatasi problematika pendidikan akhlak anak di Palopat Maria kota Padangsidimpuan yang sudah menjadi tanggung jawab bersama. Terutama orang tua, karena orang tua adalah madrasah pertama bagi anak. Pendampingan orang tua sangat berperan penting dengan memberikan kasih sayang dan perhatian. Selain orang tua, guru juga harus ikut andil dalam menangani kasus ini, karena guru pendidik yang paling berperan setelah orang tua, disamping orang tua dan guru masyarakat juga harus turut berperan aktif dalam mengawasi ancaman narkoba terhadap anak dan melakukan kerja sama dengan pihak yang berwenang untuk melakukan penyuluhan tentang berbahayanya narkoba, judi, dan rokok.

Abstract

This study investigates integrating Al-Quran values into STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) learning and its impact on student achievement in science competitions at MAS Darul Mursyid Medan. Although many broadly recognize STEM education as fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills, the challenge lies in merging these technical competencies with moral and ethical development, particularly in religious educational settings. Previous research has focused on the benefits of value-based education. However, people need to understand better how to practically integrate Al-Quran values into STEM and their effect on competitive academic performance. This study addresses this gap by analyzing the relationship between Al-Quran values and student performance. Researchers used a quantitative research design to collect data through structured questionnaires from a purposive sample of 100 students. The data was analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS. Results indicate a significant positive effect of Al-Quran values on student achievement in science competitions. The high reliability and validity scores reinforce the robustness of the findings. This study has important implications for educators and policymakers, highlighting that integrating religious values into STEM curricula can enhance intellectual and moral development, thus preparing students for academic success and real-world challenges. Future research could explore other religious values in different educational contexts and their influence on broader educational outcomes.

Abstract

Integrating science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education is the principal capital to improve the nation's economic dignity. Students' STEM abilities must be different from the role of teachers as facilitators in the learning process at school. The ability of elementary school teachers to apply STEM approaches is critical, especially in mathematics and natural sciences (IPA) studies. The study aims to identify how elementary school teachers are integrating STEM approaches. We used a qualitative case study research method, conducting in-depth interviews with two math teachers and two science teachers from the city and the village. The findings suggest differences in teachers' ability to apply STEM approaches during classroom instruction. Three aspects affect this difference: (1) lack of teacher professional development (training, seminars, or workshops); (2) facilities for obtaining information (equipment such as laboratories and computers); and (3)  different abilities of students (intellectual intelligence). There are differences in the ability of teachers in urban and rural areas to implement STEM approaches. Teachers who teach in villages have limited knowledge of integrated STEM; internal and external factors greatly influence the differences. Therefore, policymakers must undertake more programs and activities to develop their ability to implement STEM approaches. We suggest further research to explore the factors that affect teachers' ability to integrate STEM. We discuss the limitations and implications of this study.

Abstract

This study explores the impact of STEM integration on student performance in the Madrasah (school) Science Competition (KSM), focusing on how STEM-based learning enhances academic achievement. The growing importance of STEM education globally emphasizes its potential to improve students' scientific knowledge and critical thinking. Integrating STEM in Madrasah education, mainly through science competitions like the Madrasah Science Competition (KSM), challenges students to apply theoretical knowledge in practical, real-world contexts. Despite the increasing interest in STEM education, researchers have yet to fully understand its specific impact on student performance in KSM, particularly within the context of Islamic schools. Here, we examine how STEM integration affects student achievement in KSM. The research employs a qualitative approach, using thematic analysis to analyze open-ended questioning with students who participated in KSM. The results reveal that STEM integration on student achievement in KSM resulted in (a) scientific inquiry and problem-solving, hands-on experimentation, theoretical knowledge application, (b) use of technology and tools, and resource disparities, (c) increased engagement through STEM, and confidence in problem-solving, (d) limited access to resources, (e) collaborative learning in STEM projects, and team dynamics and support, (f) enhanced scientific understanding, and development of critical thinking skills, (g) improved KSM outcomes, and increased interest in science careers. The implications suggest incorporating STEM into Madrasah curricula can enhance academic achievement and foster critical thinking skills. Future research could explore the long-term impact of STEM integration on broader educational outcomes and investigate ways to scale STEM practices across Madrasah institutions.

Abstract

Mengembangkan keterampilan komunikasi membutuhkan latihan, umpan balik, dan pengembangan profesional berkelanjutan. Studi ini bertujuan untuk memahami perspektif dan pengalaman para profesional STEM mengenai pentingnya komunikasi yang efektif dan dampaknya terhadap pertumbuhan dan pencapaian profesional mereka. Melalui wawancara mendalam dan analisis tematik, penelitian ini menyelidiki sifat multifaset keterampilan komunikasi dalam STEM. Temuan penelitian ini menyoroti pentingnya komunikasi verbal, tertulis, dan visual dalam STEM. Analisis kualitatif mengungkapkan keterampilan komunikasi verbal praktis. Ini termasuk menyajikan temuan penelitian secara efektif dan terlibat dalam dialog interdisipliner, memungkinkan para profesional STEM untuk berkolaborasi secara efektif, bertukar ide, dan mendorong inovasi. Selain itu, penelitian ini mengungkap peran penting komunikasi visual dalam menyampaikan konsep ilmiah yang kompleks kepada peserta yang beragam. Studi ini menunjukkan bagaimana alat bantu visual yang berdampak, seperti visualisasi dan ilustrasi data, meningkatkan aksesibilitas dan pemahaman informasi ilmiah, yang mengarah pada peningkatan keterlibatan dan penyebaran pengetahuan yang lebih luas. Profesional STEM menghadapi berbagai tantangan dalam mengembangkan dan mengasah keterampilan komunikasi mereka. Ini mengeksplorasi hambatan, seperti kurangnya penekanan pada pelatihan komunikasi dalam pendidikan STEM dan norma budaya yang memprioritaskan keahlian teknis daripada komunikasi yang efektif. Penelitian ini mengidentifikasi strategi dan sumber daya yang digunakan para profesional STEM untuk meningkatkan keterampilan komunikasi mereka, termasuk partisipasi dalam lokakarya, mencari bimbingan, dan memanfaatkan platform digital untuk komunikasi sains—peran penting keterampilan komunikasi dalam mencapai kesuksesan dibidang STEM. Komunikasi verbal, tertulis, dan visual yang efektif sangat penting dalam mendorong kolaborasi interdisipliner, penyebaran pengetahuan, dan inovasi. Dengan mengenali dan mengatasi tantangan yang terkait dengan keterampilan komunikasi, program pendidikan dan penelitian STEM dapat membekali para profesional dengan lebih baik dengan alat yang diperlukan untuk menjembatani kesenjangan antara keahlian teknis dan dampak sosial yang lebih luas.

Abstract

Preparing students with knowledge and expertise in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) is vital in meeting the demand for digital age career opportunities. Nevertheless, there is sparse research on teachers' views of student preparedness and teachers' knowledge of STEM in classroom instruction. The present study examines secondary school teachers' perceptions of STEM pedagogical content knowledge (STEMPCK). An online survey was administered to 66 Malaysian secondary school teachers through Google Forms to determine their perspectives of STEMPCK. Data were collected and analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics Version 20.0. The descriptive analysis showed that the selected teachers highly agreed on the pedagogical knowledge and knowledge of 21st century skill components of STEMPCK. However, the non-parametric analysis showed no significant mean differences in STEMPCK scores based on gender, educational qualification, and teaching experience. The study's implications suggest that teachers in these fields should be equipped with the necessary knowledge to be more confident in implementing STEM teaching in their respective schools.

Abstract

This preface outlines the community service initiative to enhance Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) teaching methodologies for Darul Mursyid Islamic Boarding School science teachers. The initiative's primary objective is to empower educators with advanced STEM strategies, fostering a more engaging and effective learning environment for students. The program aims to balance cultural context with scientific inquiry and critical thinking by integrating traditional educational values with modern STEM practices. Key components include hands-on experiential learning and collaborative professional development through workshops and training sessions. Anticipated outcomes include improved teacher confidence and competence, higher student engagement and achievement in science, and increased interest in STEM careers. The initiative's success will be measured through qualitative feedback and quantitative assessments of student performance. This project underscores the commitment to educational excellence and innovation, setting a benchmark for integrating STEM education within an Islamic educational framework and contributing to broader societal advancement.
