Abstract

Asking activity is a form of class interaction that needs attention. With the asking activity, it can increase the questioner’s knowledge. This study aimed to identify the questions form that filed by teachers and students in the classroom following the framework of thinking mandated in the revised Bloom Taxonomy and to explore the problems faced by lecturers in implementing the HOTS-based learning process. This study used qualitative methods by applying observation sheets and interview to collect data. The data analysis of this research used analysis of domain, taxonomy, component, and theme. The results of this study indicate that lecturers and students have applied the principles of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) from core learning activities to final learning activities. The form of the question is in level C4 (Analyzing), C5 (Evaluating), and C6 (Creating), but in the form of Creating questions, students still need to increase the frequency in asking. The problem faced is the difficulty in stimulating students who can answer and ask questions at level C6 in HOTS. Therefore, lecturers also try to overcome these problems by implementing strategies in the learning process.

Abstract

The significance of learner autonomy in today’s English Language Teaching (ELT) context has been well recognized and confirmed by many research findings; however, in some cases in which independent learning is not well established, the implementation may not be easy. Thus, this research is intended to provide data on teachers’ readiness and challenges in promoting learner autonomy during online learning activities. This research employed quantitative and qualitative data collection. The quantitative data were gained by a survey that has been conducted to 38 English teachers in 38 junior high schools in Bengkulu. In addition, the qualitative data were collected from an interview that has also been carried out to six teachers. The quantitative data obtained were then analysed through descriptive statistics analysis in the form of percentages and frequency. Meanwhile, the qualitative data were analysed by using thematic analysis. The results showed that in general most teachers were ready to build learner autonomy in ICT-based English learning. Most teachers used various methods in online teaching, gave freedom for the students to access different online resources according to their interest, found it easy to carry out online learning, yet most of them did not prefer to implement online learning activities. In the implementation, some challenges were faced by teachers, including poor internet connection, students’ different characteristics, and lack support from school policymakers.

Abstract

The study investigated the crucial role of supervisory feedback in academic supervision from students' perspectives in two distinct English-speaking university contexts: EFL and ESL. The research included the participation of 59 students and relied on a comprehensive methodology, utilizing a combination of questionnaires and semi-structured interviews for data collection. In analyzing the data, the study employed simple statistics to measure frequency and mean, while interview data were subjected to thematic analysis. The study's findings revealed that students in both Indonesian and Malaysian university contexts reported similar experiences concerning supervisory feedback. Specifically, their supervisors were found to provide comprehensive feedback and consistently engage in regular face-to-face meetings. However, the study identified a notable disparity in the preferred types of supervisory feedback between Indonesian and Malaysian students. Indonesian students preferred oral feedback, while Malaysian students leaned towards written feedback. These findings have important implications for academic supervision in Indonesian and Malaysian contexts. By shedding light on the differences in student feedback preferences, the study aims to increase awareness and provoke discussions about how supervisory feedback is administered. This, in turn, could potentially lead to positive changes in how academic supervision is conducted in these contexts. Ultimately, by exploring students’ perceptions of supervisory feedback, the study functions as a valuable resource that can inform the refinement of current feedback approaches to better align with the needs of students, thus enhancing the quality of academic supervision and the overall educational experience.

Abstract PMM (Platform Merdeka Mengajar) has played an important role in transforming the educational practices across Indonesia. It has innovative approach and digital platform that have significantly impacted teaching methodologies and student learning experiences, helping in a new era of online and interactive education. The objective of this study was to explore teachers' perceptions of the effectiveness offered by PMM in SD Negeri 82 Kota Bengkulu. This research was descriptive quantitative. The instrument used in this research was questionnaire. The questionnaires were distributed to 35 teachers at SD Negeri 82 Kota Bengkulu. The results showed that most teachers at SD Negeri 82 Kota Bengkulu perceive PMM as aligned with the current curriculum, indicating a positive perception of its relevance to educational standards. The teachers acknowledge significant learning benefits associated with PMM, such as improved student engagement, better comprehension of topics, and enhanced academic performance. While some teachers express satisfaction with the support received from the school and government regarding PMM, others highlight the need for additional resources and training opportunities. However, the aspect of parental involvement received a negative response, highlighting areas for improvement in encouraging collaborative partnerships, parental education, and communication channels. Abstract

One such technological tool that can enhance students' engagement and learning outcomes is Quizizz, a game-based learning platform. Meanwhile, students’ learning styles—whether visual, auditory, or kinesthetic—play a crucial role in how effectively they absorb new information. However, there is still limited research exploring the combined effect of learning styles and digital platforms on vocabulary mastery, especially at the elementary school level. This study aims to examine significant differences in students’ English vocabulary mastery between experimental and control classes. Additionally, it seeks to determine differences in vocabulary mastery among students with auditory, kinesthetic, and visual learning styles and to investigate the interaction between the use of the Quizizz application and learning styles. A quasi-experimental design with a 2x3 factorial arrangement was employed. The participants consisted of 50 fifth-grade students divided into an experimental class (which used Quizizz) and a control class (which did not). Based on the results of the independent samples t-test and two-way ANOVA, the students in the experimental class achieved significantly higher post-test scores than those in the control class. However, there were no significant differences in vocabulary mastery among students with different learning styles. Furthermore, the two-way ANOVA indicated no significant interaction between the use of Quizizz and students’ learning styles. These findings suggest that while Quizizz is an effective tool for improving vocabulary mastery, its effectiveness is consistent across different learning styles.

Abstract

Writing an abstract in a research article is very important. The existence of abstract is compulsory within a research article. It is a research summary that must be attached and presented with the article. This study aims to find out moves and the most common pattern in RA abstracts in linguistic and language journals with different quartiles value. By using descriptive qualitative method, eighty RA abstract of linguistic and language journals with different quartile value were extracted from eight journals. Namely: Journal of Second Language Writing, Studies in English Language Education, 3L: Language, Linguistics, Literature, Applied Research on English Language, JALT Journal, World Journal of English Language, Research in Language, Suvannabhumi. The result finding; 1) Move 2 (Aim/Purpose) exists in seventy RA abstracts, Move 3 (Method) is present in sixty two RA abstracts, and Move 4 (Finding/Result) appears in Seventy Eight RA abstracts. In contrast, Move 1 (Introduction) is found in only 50 RA abstracts, and Move 5 (Conclusion) appears in 31 RA abstracts. 2) Q1 journal have the most frequent move, indicating a more comprehensive and detailed structure in their abstracts. In contrast, journals in lower quartiles, such as Q3 and Q4, often feature abstracts with fewer moves. As this study focuses only on the rhetorical move and pattern of RA abstract in field of linguistic and language journal with different quartile value, future research should conduct a comparative study and language features of the RA abstract in the field of across discipline with different quartile value.
