Abstract

Abstract The Larung Sesaji ritual in Probolinggo City is a coastal community tradition rich in symbolic meaning and social values. This ritual not only serves as an expression of gratitude for the blessings of nature but also functions as a medium of cultural preservation, education, and spiritual communication between humans, nature, and the Creator. This study aims to explore the symbolic meanings, social values, and educational functions embedded in the Larung Sesaji Bumi ritual and its relevance to the concept of ethnopedagogy. The research employed a qualitative descriptive approach using literature study methods, by analyzing academic sources such as journals, books, and related documents without conducting direct field observation. The results show that Larung Sesaji contains strong religious, social, ecological, and aesthetic values. The symbols within the offerings reflect the harmonious relationship between humans and nature, while collective participation in the ritual preparation and performance demonstrates social solidarity and mutual cooperation. Beyond its spiritual aspects, the ritual also holds educational significance as a medium for character education based on local wisdom. In the context of ethnopedagogy, Larung Sesaji Bumi serves as an effective cultural medium for cultivating religiosity, social responsibility, and cultural awareness among the community.

Abstract

The preservation of local culture faces serious challenges amidst the current of globalization that has the potential to weaken the cultural identity and national values of the younger generation. Schools have a strategic role in instilling cultural character and love of the homeland through contextual educational activities, one of which is traditional arts extracurricular activities. This study aims to describe the forms of social interaction in gamelan extracurricular activities, the process of forming social harmony, and the formation of cultural character and love of the homeland in high school students of Yayasan Atikan Sunda Bandung. The study used a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation of instructors, trainers, and student members of the gamelan extracurricular, then analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions based on George Herbert Mead's Symbolic Interactionism theory. The results of the study indicate that social interaction is built through communication, cooperation, and mutual assistance between students, which forms social harmony in the form of togetherness, tolerance, and solidarity. Gamelan activities also contribute to forming cultural character and fostering a sense of love of the homeland through pride and concern for the preservation of national culture.

Abstract

The phenomenon of children killing their parents, commonly referred to as parricide, has been increasingly documented in Indonesia since 2016. While most previous studies have examined parricide retrospectively after the crime has occurred, this study focuses on the pre-criminal stage by mapping the literature to understand how family communication patterns within authoritarian parenting may contribute to the emergence of parricidal ideation. A scoping review approach was employed using a four-stage methodological framework strengthened by the JBI guidelines, resulting in the analysis of 28 relevant articles. The review identified four key findings. First, authoritarian parenting consistently fosters a protective communication pattern characterized by enforced obedience, suppression of children’s voices, and limited opportunities to question parental authority. Second, adolescents may develop negative self-perceptions through symbolic identities formed in the family environment, where repeated demeaning communication erodes self-concept and may become a psychological threat. Third, accumulated emotional pressure can develop into ideation of extreme violence, including thoughts of killing one’s parents. Fourth, densely populated residential environments may exacerbate family dysfunction by reinforcing parental authority and limiting adolescents’ opportunities to escape ongoing conflicts, thereby worsening their psychological well-being. These findings provide important insights for the development of child protection policies and family communication intervention programs, particularly in densely populated communities in Indonesia. Keywords - Authoritarian Parenting, Densely Area, Parricide Ideation, Protective Family Communication.

Abstract

The migration of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMIs) in the digital era is no longer understood merely as labor mobility driven by economic motives, but also as a process of cultural transformation and identity negotiation within transnational spaces. This study aims to analyze how PMIs utilize social media as a space for self-representation, cultural reproduction, and identity negotiation. The study is significant because previous research has mainly focused on social media as a tool for communication, activism, and migrant worker protection, while its role in digital cultural reproduction and identity formation remains underexplored. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach using literature review, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. Data were collected from February to May 2026 through interviews with three PMIs in Japan and Brunei Darussalam and two domestic workers in Indonesia to compare work cultures and everyday practices. Data credibility was ensured through source triangulation and analyzed thematically. The findings reveal differences in work culture between host countries and Indonesia. PMIs experience tensions between the habitus formed in Indonesia and the work cultures of host countries, which emphasize discipline, individualism, and adherence to formal regulations. Social media functions as a space for cultural reproduction, the preservation of Indonesian cultural identity, and symbolic social mobility through self-branding and social recognition. These findings contribute to digital migration studies by conceptualizing social media as a transnational social space where migrant workers actively construct, maintain, and transform their cultural identities. Practically, the study highlights the role of social media in supporting cultural adaptation and preserving national identity among migrant workers abroad.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Digital transformation has transformed various aspects of people’s lives, yet not all groups have been able to adapt effectively, particularly older adults who are vulnerable to digital exclusion. This study aims to examine the forms of the digital divide among older adults and the role of Generation Z as mediators in bridging access to digital services. The method employed is a descriptive qualitative approach through a literature review, analysing various relevant academic sources. The findings indicate that the digital divide among the elderly is multidimensional, encompassing limited access to technology, low digital literacy, limited technical skills, information gaps, psychological factors, and digital service designs that are not yet inclusive. Furthermore, social factors such as limited social networks also reinforce digital exclusion among older adults. In this context, Generation Z plays a crucial role as mediators who not only provide technical assistance but also act as technology interpreters, facilitators of informal learning, and providers of psychological support. Interactions between older adults and Generation Z reflect the role of social capital in enhancing digital inclusion through trust and interpersonal relationships. Therefore, intergenerational collaboration is a key strategy in creating an inclusive digital transformation and empowering older adults to adapt independently in the digital age.
