Abstract

In the context of the 2014 Village Law, village government intervention in agricultural development is very important in improving the welfare of village communities. This study aims to determine the intervention of the village government on agricultural development programs and to find out the opportunities and limitations of the village government in agricultural development in the village. This research uses a qualitative method with a literature study approach. This study uses Henry Bernstein's theory of agrarian political economy. Data collection was carried out through secondary data sourced from books, journals, the internet, official documents related to village government and agricultural development. Data analysis used the interactive model Miles, Huberman and Saldana. The scope of this research is limited to village government intervention in the planning and implementation of agricultural development. The findings in this study are that the change in the system from centralization to decentralization has also changed the planning of agricultural development programs in villages that are more decentralized, participatory between the community and the village government. The recommendations/implications of these findings are expected to be able to contribute findings/ideas to studies of rural development in Indonesia, particularly the role of village governments in agricultural development and a political economy perspective in agricultural development to alleviate poverty, food security, and increase the income of people in rural areas. In addition, recommendations for village government intervention in development that are more pro-poor in rural areas.

Abstract

Mapping socio-economic conditions in rural areas is used to see community needs and potential resources in order to find out which sectors need to be implemented and improved. This study aims to analyze the participatory mapping of socio-economic conditions in the village of Singosari, Tanggamus. This research uses a quantitative-descriptive method with a case study approach supported by qualitative data. The population in this study amounted to 464 heads of households and the sample was 30 households. In this study, the respondents and informants were farmer households and village government officials. Data collection was carried out through primary data through surveys, interviews, participatory observation, documentation, and literature studies on data related to participatory socio-economic mapping in rural areas. Data analysis used the interactive model Miles, Huberman and Saldana, and assisted with Microsoft Excel for processing survey data. The findings in this study are that the Singosari village has a variety of resources, both socio-economic and ecological. Even though the village has limitations in terms of education and health facilities, on the other hand, it has the potential for dryland farming which can be developed and become the focus of agricultural development program interventions. Recommendations/implications for the findings are that the results of the socio-economic mapping contain socio-economic data of villagers so that they can be used as a valid reference for making policies/programs. Socio-economic data is presented according to existing categories, arranged systematically, with explanations of the relationships between these categories, and can be read.

Abstract

The construction of a reservoir not only impacts the physical and economic aspects of a region but also affects the communities living in its vicinity. It is important to understand how this development influences the social life of the people, including social changes, inter-community relations, social participation, social conflicts, and the social structure around the reservoir. Government-led development projects sometimes trigger community reactions in the form of resistance. Therefore, this research aims to examine the social significance behind the construction of Waduk Lambo in East Nusa Tenggara. This study employs secondary sources and data collection techniques through literature review. The research findings indicate that social development management in the case of Waduk Lambo construction can be achieved through cultural development, structural development, and social process development to ensure well-planned development and positive impacts on the community while mitigating conflicts between the government and the community or among different communities. In this case, or in similar cases, the community needs to understand the concept of development and why the government initiates it. If the community perceives negative impacts from the development, they should engage in direct discussions with the government to avoid conflicts.

Abstract

This article aims to revisit the study of rural development, agricultural development, and rural livelihoods by highlighting publications in Google Scholar and Semantic Scholar from 1980 to 2023. The study utilized Google Scholar's and Semantic Scholar's 43-year citation database to compile articles. The keywords used in this study were "Rural Development," "Agricultural Development," and "Rural Livelihoods," with English document filters applied through the Publish or Perish software. Descriptive statistical methods were used to present graphs, diagrams, tables, and literature reviews. Subsequently, a bibliometric analysis was performed on the data using the VOSviewer software. In this study, visualization of citations and keywords was conducted. The study reveals significant research trends in rural development, agricultural development, and rural livelihoods over the past 43 years. Based on the visualization of a large cluster network map containing concepts related to rural development, agricultural development, and rural livelihoods, various advancements in concept development emerged. Studies on the mathematical modeling of rural development, agricultural development, and rural livelihoods remain separate. No study has integrated the topic of agricultural development and rural livelihoods within the context of agricultural development. The researcher further employs bibliometric analysis to identify relevant keywords related to the topics of study: rural development, agricultural development, and rural livelihoods. Thus, the researchers suggest further study on the rationalization of farmers in dryland areas to realize food security for local communities' livelihoods. Additionally, studying agricultural development programs on dryland areas is necessary, integrating the perspective of sustainable livelihoods to support and realize sustainable rural development

Abstract

The agricultural sector plays a vital role in rural communities in Indonesia. Agricultural development stands as one of the most crucial development agendas pursued by both governmental and non-governmental entities. An essential aspect to examine within agricultural development is its implications for the livelihoods of farming communities. This study analyzes the implications of agricultural development programs on farmers' livelihoods through the lens of sustainable livelihoods. Employing a qualitative method with a case study approach, the research was conducted among dryland farmers practicing intercropping farming systems. The case study was carried out in Singosari Village, Talang Padang Sub-District, Tanggamus District. Primary data collection involved interviews, participatory observations, documentation, and secondary data through a literature review over a 9-month period. Findings indicate that the implications of agricultural development programs by both state and private actors are unevenly distributed among farmer groups. Cultivation patterns of commodity crops (coffee and cocoa) intervened by agricultural development programs tend to be unsustainable, while non-intervened cultivation remains sustainable. Based on the findings, the researcher recommends that agricultural development interventions consider specific farming practices and local agrarian structures in projecting program implications and benefit distribution. Keywords: Agricultural Development, Sustainable Livelihoods, Dryland Agriculture.

Abstract

This paper examines how a particular cultural product (cuisine) from a demographically minority ethnic group is transformed in a multicultural social setting. The expanding process of commodification and the development of the urban culinary industry, supported by innovations in digital technology and media, provide opportunities for ethnic cuisines to compete with other culinary traditions. This research aims to determine how the cultural identity embedded in specific cuisines is built in the culinary market and how the intrinsic value of ethnic culinary traditions is transformed in multiethnic societies. The theory used is food culture and food habits. (Foster and Anderson 1978; Jerome, Kandel, and Pelto 1980). This study used qualitative research methods with an ethnographic approach.  Data was collected through interviews, observations, and the author's participant observation as a citizen of the city under study. The study found that togetherness is an intrinsic value of Lampung's seruit commensality that is adaptive amidst socio-cultural transformation into a multicultural society. Seruit becomes an arena for constructing Lampungnese during a multiethnic urban society and growing commercial economy. Sharing meals (seruit commensality) can promote harmony among Lampung's urban ethnic groups. Mass and digital media have transformed Lampung's identity

Abstract

Poverty is a major problem that is a major concern for the government. The level of disparity in urban and rural poverty is very high, however poverty in urban areas remains a national poverty alleviation challenge. This writing aims to describe the phenomenon of poverty in urban areas based on a structural-functional perspective. This research uses a qualitative method with a literature study approach. Data collection was carried out through secondary data sourced from books, journals, the internet, official documents related to poverty and structural-functional theory. The findings in this paper are that poverty in urban areas has prevented children from receiving quality education, facing difficulties in financing health care, and limited fulfillment of their needs for food, clothing and shelter. Poverty alleviation efforts must be based on the determination of the appropriate poverty line and a clear understanding (definition of poverty in local parameters) regarding the causes of the problem. The recommendations/implications of these findings are expected to contribute findings/ideas to studies of urban development in Indonesia, especially sociological studies of poverty. In addition, recommendations for regional government intervention in formulating development policies that are more pro-poor in urban areas.
