In the digital age, financial technology (fintech) developments offer new opportunities for the practice of Islamic charity, particularly zakat, infaq, and sadaqah (ZIS). One of the most innovative solutions is the use of cryptocurrency in these charitable activities. This article aims to analyze the impact of cryptocurrency adoption in the collection and distribution of ZIS by reviewing relevant literature and existing case studies. The research seeks to understand the potential, challenges, and legal implications of utilizing cryptocurrency in Islamic charity. The findings reveal that while cryptocurrency has the potential to enhance the efficiency and transparency of ZIS collection, it also presents challenges related to regulation, value stability, and acceptance by religious authorities.

Abstract

This study examines the tradition of giving wedding money to newlyweds, known locally as basodo, from the perspective of Islamic Economic Law. The practice, which has been passed down through generations in Ngulak Village, Sanga Desa District, reflects a social form of cooperation and solidarity among community members. However, differences in intention and purpose have led to two distinct legal understandings of the practice. Using a qualitative field research approach, data were collected through observation, interviews with community leaders and residents, and documentation of gift records. The findings reveal that the basodo tradition in Ngulak Village consists of two types of contracts. The first type, when given sincerely without expecting any return, is categorized as a hibah (grant). The second, when accompanied by an expectation of repayment during future social events, corresponds to a qardh (loan) contract. Both contracts are valid under Islamic law as long as they fulfill the pillars and conditions of mutual consent, sincerity, and absence of usury or coercion. Nevertheless, when the practice is influenced by social pressure or material expectation, it deviates from the Islamic principles of voluntarism (ikhlas) and mutual assistance (ta‘awun). Therefore, this study concludes that the basodo tradition remains permissible within Islamic Economic Law if carried out with sincere intention and willingness. The study also suggests strengthening community understanding of hibah and qardh concepts to ensure that customary practices continue to reflect the ethical and moral values of Islam.

Abstract

Mangrove ecosystems play a crucial role in maintaining coastal environmental sustainability by protecting shorelines from erosion, supporting marine biodiversity, and contributing to climate change mitigation. However, mangrove areas in many coastal regions continue to experience degradation due to environmental pressures and human activities. This community engagement program aimed to promote coastal ecosystem sustainability through a community-based mangrove restoration initiative conducted at Mangrove Park Lampulo in Banda Aceh, Indonesia. The program involved collaborative participation from 10 students of the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business (FEBI) at UIN Ar-Raniry Banda Aceh, lecturers from the same institution, local community members from Pemangku Village, and several researchers from Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional. The activities were carried out through several stages, including environmental education, participatory mangrove planting, and simple monitoring of the planted mangrove seedlings. The results indicate that a community-based approach can increase environmental awareness among participants and strengthen collaboration between academic institutions, research organizations, and local communities in coastal conservation efforts. Furthermore, the mangrove planting initiative contributed to ecological restoration and encouraged greater community involvement in sustainable coastal environmental management. This study highlights the importance of collaborative and community-based approaches in promoting long-term mangrove conservation and coastal ecosystem sustainability.

Abstract

This study is a qualitative research employing a phenomenological approach aimed at understanding the lived experiences of pregnant women engaging in tourism activities in Sabang, Indonesia. The focus of this study is to explore the subjective meanings constructed by pregnant tourists during their travel experiences. The informants consisted of 10 participants selected purposively based on their direct experience of traveling while pregnant. Data were collected through in-depth semi-structured interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis, including coding, categorization, and the development of essential meanings. The findings identify five major themes: risk perception and safety considerations, emotional dynamics, physical challenges, the role of support systems, and the meaning of travel during pregnancy. The results indicate that the tourism experiences of pregnant women are multidimensional, influenced by physical, psychological, social, and destination-related factors. This study contributes to the development of tourism studies, particularly in the area of pregnant tourism, and provides practical implications for developing more inclusive, safe, and pregnancy- friendly tourism environments.

Abstract

This study develops an integrated model of halal seafood culinary tourism (HSCT-Model) as a primary competitive attraction for Islamic tourism destinations in Aceh Province, Indonesia. The research integrates three disciplinary dimensions: halal seafood processing technology, halal certification management, and Muslim tourist experience. A sequential explanatory mixed-methods design was employed, comprising: (1) laboratory analysis of three signature Acehnese seafood products (keumamah, eungkot paya, and dendeng ikan tenggiri); (2) a structured survey of 220 Muslim tourists (domestic and international) analysed using Structural Equation Modelling via Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS, SmartPLS 4.0); and (3) two-round stakeholder Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) for model validation. Findings reveal that halal certification trust exerts the strongest influence on Muslim tourist satisfaction (β = 0.421, p < 0.001), while processing technology quality mediates the relationship between halal compliance and food tourism experience (β = 0.318, p < 0.01). Laboratory analysis confirms that all three products comply with SNI halal food safety standards. The resultant HSCT-Model integrates four pillars: halal processing standards, certification traceability, culinary experience design, and digital marketing for Muslim travellers. This model offers a replicable governance framework for Muslim-majority coastal destinations seeking to leverage halal food heritage as a strategic tourism differentiator.

Abstract

This study investigates the comfort level of foreign tourists visiting Sabang, Aceh, Indonesia, within the framework of Islamic Sharia law enforcement. As a Special Autonomy Region, Aceh implements Sharia-based regulations that significantly shape the tourism experience, including dress codes, behavioral norms, and halal requirements. Using a mixed-method approach combining survey questionnaires (n = 187 foreign tourists) and in-depth interviews (n = 15 participants), data were collected at key tourist sites in Sabang during 2024. The Tourist Comfort Index (TCI) and thematic analysis were employed for quantitative and qualitative data, respectively. Results indicate that the majority of foreign tourists (71.1%) reported moderate to high comfort levels, primarily attributing positive experiences to the natural beauty, local hospitality, and cultural uniqueness of the destination. However, challenges were noted regarding the enforcement of dress codes and limited nightlife options. Regression analysis reveals that prior knowledge of Sharia regulations (β = 0.42, p < 0.001), respectful interaction with locals (β = 0.38, p < 0.001), and availability of tourism information in multiple languages (β = 0.29, p < 0.01) are significant predictors of tourist comfort. The findings contribute to the emerging discourse on halal tourism, destination marketing, and intercultural respect in religiously conservative destinations.
