Abstract

Speaking is an important skill needed in communication and requires good training as well as professional and experienced English tutors. The speaking tutors will encounter various difficulties and need to employ effective teaching strategies to overcome them. This study aimed to find out the types of challenges faced by the English tutors in the Madani Super Camp (MSC) Course Narmada in teaching speaking and the types of learning strategies applied by the tutors to overcome the challenges in teaching speaking. This qualitative descriptive research involved eight English teachers in the MSC Course Narmada as respondents. The data were obtained by using closed-ended questions and semi-structured interviews, which were transcribed descriptively. In addition, the data analysis used is data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results of the research showed that the tutors faced five challenges in teaching English, including a lack of student discipline, additional work, a lack of self-confidence, a lack of technical teaching, and controlling the classroom and class management. The researcher reveals the research findings related to the learning strategies applied by the tutors to overcome the challenges in teaching speaking ability, including discussion and classroom interaction, storytelling, classroom practice, games, and picture descriptions. Abstract

This study aimed to explore the perceptions of students of the Islamic Religious Education (PAI) Postgraduate Program of UIN Mataram regarding the challenges they face in writing articles for scientific publications, which include academic writing and language skills. The method used in this research was survey. The data collection technique used a questionnaire distributed to students of the Postgraduate Master of Islamic Education study program to obtain information about the challenges faced in both aspects. The collected data were then analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques which resulted in mean values and standard deviations. The research findings showed that students experience various obstacles in scientific publications, from formulating titles to compiling discussions. The main challenges included the preparation of the introduction, presentation of data, creation of complex sentences, use of grammar, and selection of academic vocabulary. An intensive and sustainable academic writing training program is needed, accompanied by comprehensive coaching, feedback, and mentoring.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the level of students’ English classroom speaking anxiety, identify the level of students’ speaking fluency, and examine the correlation between English classroom speaking anxiety and speaking fluency among fourth semester students of TBI UIN Mataram. Quantitative correlational design was employed. The participants consisted of 35 fourth semester students. Data were collected using a speaking anxiety questionnaire and a speaking test assessed through a speaking fluency The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, normality testing, linearity testing, and Pearson Product Moment Correlation through SPSS. The findings showed that the mean score of speaking anxiety was 77.43, indicating a relatively high level of speaking anxiety, while the mean score of speaking fluency was 51.29, indicating a moderate level of speaking fluency. The Pearson correlation analysis revealed that the correlation coefficient -0.767, with a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). This result indicates a strong negative correlation between the two variables. In conclusion, English classroom speaking anxiety has a significant and strong negative relationship with students’ speaking fluency.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of prophetic leadership on: 1) the work ethic of PAI teachers, 2) the formation of students' Islamic character, and 3) both simultaneously in Integrated Islamic Schools (SIT) in Mataram City. The research employed a quantitative approach with an ex post facto design. The sample consisted of 80 respondents, including principals, PAI teachers, and students. The instrument was a questionnaire based on indicators of prophetic leadership (sidiq, amanah, tabligh, fathanah), work ethic, and Islamic character. Data were collected through surveys, observation, and documentation, then analyzed using multivariate regression tests. The results showed: (1) there is a significant influence of prophetic leadership on PAI teachers' work ethic (significance 0.001); (2) there is a significant influence on the formation of students' Islamic character (0.011); and (3) there is a significant simultaneous influence on both variables. The implication is that prophetic leadership, based on prophetic role modeling, plays a strategic role in improving teacher professionalism and strengthening students' Islamic character, making it worthy as a strategic leadership model in Islamic educational institutions
