Abstract

This research aims to investigate the influence of entrepreneurial spirit, entrepreneurial values, and entrepreneurial behavior on the self-reliance of small business entrepreneurs in Palu City. The main issues identified in this research include limited access to financing, difficulties in marketing local products, bureaucratic barriers, and a lack of capacity in small and medium-sized enterprises in the city. This qualitative research method involved 125 respondents who are small business entrepreneurs registered with the Department of Cooperatives and SMEs in Palu City. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) technique. The results of this research indicate that entrepreneurial behavior has a positive and significant influence on self-reliance, while entrepreneurial spirit and entrepreneurial values do not have a significant influence on self-reliance. Therefore, emphasis should be placed on the development of entrepreneurial behavior, with a focus on aspects such as self-confidence, wise decision-making, and active efforts in business development. In conclusion, self-reliance can also be influenced by external factors such as government policies and access to financial resources.

Abstract

This research is a descriptive research using quantitative approach. This research was conducted at Senior High Schools in East Palu in August 2022. The sample of this study consisted of five biology teachers of State Senior High School in East Palu. The instrument used was an open-ended questionnaire that included five dimensions of TPACK. Each TPACK section contains three issues derived from three indicators. With the help of the open-ended questionnaire, the use of TPACK-based learning media by biology teachers can be measured externally and deeply. The results showed that the most used media by biology teachers is technology-based media particularly PowerPoint media. According to the teachers, PowerPoint media is easy to use and develop, and it can support students to interpret the material effectively and practically. Another media used by biology teachers is traditional media utilization where they use media as learning tools. Finally, the teachers employ pictures of laboratory materials as these are easier to find.

Abstract

A deficit in teachers' skills and knowledge in designing innovative technology-based learning can impact student learning outcomes. This community service aims to provide training on designing learning using the STEM-based PBL model for teachers at SMP Negeri 18 Palu, Central Sulawesi. This program involved 40 SMP Negeri 18 Palu teachers and was conducted in July 2024. Utilizing a participatory action research approach, this program included material presentations, interactive discussions, and assignments assessed through questionnaires, observation sheets, and assignment sheets. The questionnaires were distributed before training activities, observation sheets were used during training and mentoring activities, and assignment sheets were distributed immediately after the discussion ended. The outcomes of the questionnaire showed that 100% of teachers analyzed learning outcomes and learning objectives before designing the lesson, 90% of teachers were familiar with PBL, 45% of teachers had designed learning using the PBL and implemented it, 10% of teachers had mastered PBL syntax and 100% of teachers had never designed learning with a STEM and combining it with PBL. The observation results were that 100% of teachers in each group played an active role, helped each other and worked together to complete assignments, established good communication with fellow teachers in their groups, and had a high level of responsibility in completing their group assignments. The assignment results show that 100% of teachers succeeded in designing learning using the PBL learning model and integrating it with a STEM approach. This community service’s success suggests a continued need for similar training efforts in designing STEM-based PBL models. Expanding workshops to facilitate the implementation of STEM-integrated PBL models in learning is also necessary.Top of Form

Abstract

This article discusses the use of natural Plant Growth Regulators (PGRs) in accelerating plant growth. PGRs are synthetic chemicals that mimic endogenous plant hormones. However, due to their high cost, developing independent PGRs from organic materials presents an attractive alternative. Various organic materials containing plant hormones can effectively facilitate plant growth and development. This article uses a qualitative approach based on relevant literature on plant hormones and PGRs, focusing on banana pith and coconut water extracts. Results indicate that soaking mung beans in a 75% coconut water solution (A2B3) yields optimal growth. The article elaborates on five primary groups of PGRs—auxins, cytokinins, gibberellins, ethylene, and abscisic acid—and their roles and activation mechanisms in plants. It provides insights into the benefits of natural PGRs in supporting organic farming within home environments.

Abstract

This study analyzes the science literacy abilities of students at SMA Negeri 6 Sigi, focusing specifically on chemistry literacy. The objective is to evaluate the extent to which students understand chemistry concepts and can apply them in solving everyday problems. Using a mixed-method approach, qualitative data were collected through a Likert-scale questionnaire, while quantitative data were gathered from a multiple-choice test requiring reasoned responses. Results show that while students self-report high levels of chemistry understanding, their actual performance in applying these concepts is limited, with significant discrepancies observed between perceived and demonstrated abilities. The study highlights the importance of incorporating contextual and inquiry-based learning approaches in chemistry instruction to improve conceptual understanding and reasoning skills. These findings provide valuable insights for educators in enhancing chemistry literacy through real-life applications, ultimately fostering students' critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the STEM-based project-based learning (PjBL) model on students' creative thinking skills and learning motivation in biology at SMA Negeri 4 Palu. The study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design, the population in this study were all grade X students of SMA Negeri 4 Palu in the 2024/2025 academic year consisting of 12 study groups with a total of 400 students. The sample was determined through purposive sampling, consisting of an experimental class (n=33) receiving PjBL-STEM learning and a control class (n=33) with conventional learning. Data were collected through creative thinking skills tests and learning motivation observation sheets, then analyzed using normality tests, homogeneity tests, and independent samples t-tests. The results showed that the PjBL-STEM model had a significant effect on improving creative thinking skills (Sig. = 0.023 <0.05) and learning motivation (Sig. = 0.000 <0.05). This finding confirms that the integration of the STEM approach in PjBL not only strengthens the cognitive but also the affective aspects, so that it can be used as a strategic alternative in developing a biology curriculum to foster 21st-century competencies.
