Abstract

The growing number of 2.0 studies indicated the increasing tendency to integrate technology into EFL teaching. Reports on teachers' perception of and practice of technology integration can easily be found in research databases. Nevertheless, quite a few laid attempts to map and build a tentative connection between perception and practice. This study examined teachers' current practice and their perception of technology integration. The respondents of this study were 40 English teachers from 20 senior high schools in a district in Indonesia. To collect the data, a technology integration questionnaire (TIQ) was developed based on pre-existing instruments. The responses were analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative strategies. The study found that, first, the teachers commonly held positive views on the use of technology although they also indicated their alert on the challenges and requirements for the success of the implementation. Second, the responses suggested that there was a connection between teachers' perception and their technology integration practice. Third, viewed from the SAMR model, the teachers' technology integration practice mainly fell into substitution and augmentation. Categorization of the technology integration purpose, practice, and process is discussed further. The study concludes teachers’ practice tended to focus more on the technology but less on the teaching and learning.

Abstract

The present study examines the representation of cultural content in cultural representation, English the 11th-grade English textbook “Bahasa Inggris: English for Change.” This descriptive qualitative research employs document analysis as the data collection technique. The study investigates the cultural representation in this Senior High School English textbook using Cortazzi and Jin’s (1999) cultural dimensions and Yuen’s (2011) cultural elements as the analytical framework. The analysis reveals that Indonesian culture is predominantly featured across all textbook units, resulting in a limited representation of foreign cultural dimensions. Practice elements are the most prevalent, followed by product, person, and perspective elements in terms of cultural distribution. The findings indicate an imbalanced representation between Indonesian and foreign cultures, as well as an uneven distribution of the cultural aspects outlined by Yuen's framework (2011). It is recommended that the textbook authors incorporate a more diverse range of cultures to enhance students’ intercultural knowledge.

Abstract

Students' low understanding of mathematics is one of the main challenges in the learning process at school. This low understanding is often closely related to the learning methods used by teachers, which are less able to facilitate active involvement and deep understanding of concepts by students. This study aims to analyze the differences in mathematical comprehension abilities between students who learn through the Numbered Heads Together (NHT) cooperative model and conventional learning, and to examine the extent of the influence of the NHT model on students' mathematical comprehension abilities in the experimental class. This study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method and a nonequivalent pretest-posttest control group design. The population of the study was eighth grade junior high school students, with a cluster random sampling technique. The main instrument was a mathematical comprehension ability test, and the data were analyzed using normality, homogeneity, N-gain, t-test, and paired sample t-test.  The results of the study indicate that the Numbered Heads Together (NHT) learning model is more effective in enhancing students' mathematical understanding ability compared to conventional learning.

Abstract

One of the natural disasters that often occur in Indonesia's coastal areas is the Rob flood, which increases the possibility of transmission of infectious diseases in addition to causing damage to infrastructure. The purpose of this study is to examine the general public's awareness of the dangers of infectious disease transmission after the flash flood tragedy in Sei Naga Lawan Village, Perbaungan District. This study uses a quantitative methodology and involves 96 randomly selected respondents. Because there are 2,561 people living in Sei Naga Lawan Village, Perbaungan District, the Slovin formula with an error threshold of 10% is used to calculate the number of samples that need to be studied. Thus, 96 residents is the number of samples to be examined. Based on the research, it was found that out of 96 respondents, 30.2% of respondents had insufficient knowledge in understanding the problem of infectious disease risk, while 69.8% of respondents had quite good knowledge about the problem of infectious disease risk after the flash flood. Poor sanitation and lack of public awareness about prevention can exacerbate infectious diseases such as dengue fever and diarrhea. From the research conducted in the conclusion, most of the respondents (69.8%) felt that they had quite good knowledge about the risk of infectious diseases after the flash flood, although some of them (30.2%) had less knowledge in understanding the problem. This concludes that there is a gap in the public's understanding of health risks. Good education is needed by the community to develop sustainable health knowledge to increase public awareness to prevent infectious diseases after floods appropriately.

Abstract

Rapid growth of studies on Chat-GPT acceptance within the broader context of AI in education (AIEd) has provided valuable insights into how participants across settings perceive and use this tool for teaching and learning. This study replicates earlier investigations on AI acceptance but narrows the focus to a specific task: editing and proofreading. It also expands the inquiry to address ethical concerns and overreliance-two recurring themes in AIEd research. A modified extended TAM questionnaire covering seven aspects was distributed to 71 first-year EFL university students enrolled in a writing course that permitted Chat-GPT only for editing and proofreading, with clear restrictions. Group interviews were also conducted. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics; qualitative data were examined thematically. Findings reveal a consistent three-step use of Chat-GPT: prompting, pasting the manuscript, and reviewing. Students treated AI output as a draft for enhancement, not as final work. Variation emerged in how much students revised AI-suggested edits, suggesting differing levels of reliance. The study confirms that perceived usefulness and ease of use contribute to students’ attitudes and intentions, moderated by self-image and subjective norms. While long-term dependency remains unclear, students appeared cautious when boundaries were set. This study suggests that when lecturers provide clear guidelines, students tend to view Chat-GPT as a learning aid and show awareness of academic integrity and authorship. The findings underline the need for well-defined institutional policies on AI use in writing instruction, while acknowledging the study’s contextual limitations and the need for further research.
