Abstract

Taro leaf stems have antibacterial compounds, namely tannins, flavonoids, saponins and alkaloids that have anti-bacterial effects. The purpose of this study was to determine the antibacterial ability of the taro leaf stalk extract using the Staphylococcus aureus test bacteria. This research is an experimental study with samples using pure cultures of S. aureus. The treatments in this study were taro leaf stalk extract concentrations, including 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100 (%) concentrations and used diffusion and dilution methods. The results of the study were analyzed statistically with the Kruskal-Wallis test. The results obtained showed that the diameter of the clear zone of S. aureus at various treatment concentrations was 0% (0 mm); 25% (10.98 mm); 50% (11.93 mm); 75% (13.06 mm); 100% (13.14 mm) with significant results between treatments (5%). For the determination of MIC (Minimum Inhibitory Level) and MBC (Minimum Killing Level) there is a treatment with a concentration of 100%.

Abstract

Limbah cair tahu dapat menyebabkan pencemaran lingkungan yang dapat dicegah dengan memanfaatkannya menjadi Pupuk Organik Cair (POC) untuk tanaman. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian POC limbah cair tahu terhadap pertumbuhan dan produktivitas tanaman tomat cherry (Lycopersicum cerasiforme Mill.). Jenis penelitian berupa eksperimental yang menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK). Perlakuan konsentrasi POC limbah cair tahu yang digunakan adalah 0%, 20%, 40%, dan 60%. Parameter pengamatan dalam penelitian ini, antara lain:  tinggi tanaman, jumlah daun, diameter batang, usia berbunga, jumlah buah, dan berat buah. Data hasil penelitian dianalisis menggunakan Anova dan uji lanjut Duncan dengan aplikasi SPSS. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa aplikasi POC Limbah tahu berpengaruh nyata terhadap parameter pengamatan, dengan nilai signifikansi sebesar 0.000. Hasil uji lanjut Duncan menunjukkan bahwa nilai tertinggi terdapat pada aplikasi konsentarsi POC 60% dengan hasil tertinggi berturut-turut yaitu tinggi tanaman (115.83 d), jumlah daun (459.17 d), diameter batang (1.89 d), umur berbunga (21.33 a), jumlah buah (27.33 d), dan berat buah (454.17d).

Abstract

The safety of using liquid soap to wash fruit or vegetables is unclear. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of liquid soap on the body weight of mice (Mus musculus). This research is pure experimental using a completely randomized design. The treatment given was soaking fruits and vegetables in liquid soap with a concentration of 20 mL/L for 30 and 60 seconds, each treatment had 10 replications. The mice used were male, aged 4 weeks, with a total of 30 mice selected by cluster random sampling. Fruit and vegetable extracts were administered once daily, alternating fruit and vegetable extracts for 8 weeks in addition to the main food. Mice’s body weight was measured using a digital scale. The data were analyzed using One Way Anova and Duncan's advanced test. The results showed that liquid soap had a significant effect on the body weight of mice, but the average body weight of fruits and vegetables soaked in liquid soap for 30 seconds and 60 seconds was not significantly different. The conclusion of this study supports other research that the use of liquid soap containing surfactants for a long time continuously has a negative effect on body weight.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bersifat eksperimental dengan 2 faktor yaitu lama perendaman 0 jam, 6 jam, 12 jam, 18 jam, 24 jam dan dosis penyiraman 0 ml, 25 ml, 50 ml, 75 ml, 100 ml dan diulang sebanyak tiga kali. Parameter yang digunakan adalah persentase perkecambahan, panjang radikula dan panjang bulu yang dianalisis dengan uji MANOVA taraf 5%, dan uji post hoc Duncan. Hasil analisis menunjukkan persentase perkecambahan tidak berbeda nyata, namun terdapat perbedaan nyata pada pertumbuhan panjang radikula dan panjang bulu. Parameter persentase perkecambahan perlakuan D4L0 mempunyai persentase yang rendah yaitu 5,33%. Hasil penelitian pada perlakuan 18 jam menunjukkan hasil maksimum pada panjang radikula (4,553±1,909b) dan bulu (2,386±1,030c). Dosis penyiraman 0 ml menunjukkan hasil maksimum untuk panjang radikula sebesar 4,413±1,909c dan dosis penyiraman 25 ml menunjukkan hasil untuk panjang bulu maksimum sebesar 1,900±1,030a. Dan untuk kombinasi yang menunjukkan hasil maksimal pada parameter panjang radikula perlakuan D1L4 (5.167±1,459b) dan parameter panjang plumula perlakuan D1L3 (2.900±0,833d).

Abstract

Tanaman selada merah (Lactuca sativa var. Crispa) merupakan sayuran dengan nilai ekonomi yang tinggi. Salah satu Solusi untuk meningkatkan produksi selada merah adalah dengan pemupukan Pupuk Organik Cair (POC) ekoenzim. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh aplikasi POC ekoenzim terhadap pertumbuhan tanaman selada merah. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok  dengan perlakuan beberapa konsentrasi yaitu 0%,25%,50%,75%,100%, dan pupuk kimia dengan 6 kali pengulangan. Parameter yang diamati adalah panjang daun, jumlah daun, lebar daun, panjang akar, berat basah dan berat kering. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa aplikasi POC ekoenzim berpengaruh nyata terhadap semua parameter pengamatan selada merah. POC ekoenzim dengan konsentrasi 75% memberikan hasil terbaik ke-2 setelah perlakuan pupuk kimia. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan ekoenzim 75% hampir menyamai pengaruhnya dengan aplikasi pupuk kimia.

Abstract

Kurangnya minat siswa untuk membaca disebabkan buku yang tebal dan kurang menarik. Oleh karena itu, perlu disediakan bahan bacaan yang menarik, mudah dibawa dan sesuai dengan tujuan pembelajaran yaitu dengan memanfaatkan lingkungan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuat media pembelajaran dengan menggunakan data-data yang diperoleh dari Savana Bekol di Taman Nasional Baluran. Jenis penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif dan pemilihan tempat ditentukan secara purposive karena mempunyai keanekaragaman hayati yang sesuai dengan tujuan pembelajaran di Sekolah Menengah Atas kelas X. Metode pengambilan data dilakukan dengan observasi secara langsung flora, fauna dan kondisi abiotik yang ada di savanna Bekol serta didukung dengan metode dokumentasi berupa foto. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis secara deskriptif menggunakan analisis taksonomi terhadap karakteristik flora dan fauna yang diperoleh. Hasil penelitian mendapatkan 9 spesies flora yaitu Brachiaria mutica, Chloris barbata, Dactyloctenium aegyptium, Eleusine Indica, Eragrostis amabilis, Eulalia amaura, Imperata cylindrical, Ischaemum muticum, Panicum repensum. Semua spesies tersebut termasuk dalam famili Poaceae. Sementara untuk fauna mendapatkan 11 species yaitu Bos javanicus, Bubalus bubalis, Callosciurus nigrovittatus, Cuon alpinus, Macaca fascicularis, Manis javanica, Muntiacus muntjak, Panthera pardus, Paradoxurus hermaphroditus, Cervus Timorensis dan Trachiypithecus auratus yang diklasifikasikan dalam famili Bovidae, Cervidae, Cercopithecoide, Sciuridae, Canidae, Felidae dan Viveridae. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini dibuat media booklet dan telah divalidasi oleh dua orang pendidik dan satu orang yang faham tentang media. Setelah dilakukan revisi dapat disimpulkan bahwa booklet ini layak digunakan sebagai media belajar untuk materi keanekaragaman hayati di tingkat SMA kelas X.

Abstract

Online learning started with the emergence of Internet technology and has been increasingly used during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, it has raised many problems, such as limitations in presenting material (monotonous and uninteresting), building activeness, and difficulty creating interaction between lecturers and students and between students. Moreover, online learning is more stressful than regular classroom sessions because students have to study alone. The absence of clearly structured learning steps makes it difficult for them to focus. Therefore, this research aims to develop an independent online learning module based on ubiquitous classrooms with a structured and systematic flow called Introduce, Connect, Apply, Reflect, and Extend (ICARE). Furthermore, it determines the eligibility of the module using an ADDIE design for education, which consists of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. All stages resulted in an eligible online module with an u-learning class ICARE flow in the Learning Media course.

Abstract

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, disinfectants have not only been used in health facilities, but they have also spread to households. The problem was that people often use disinfectant formulas that did not complied with health institutions guidelines. This study aims was to evaluate the effects of two types of disinfectants on the fertility, parameters of male mice, namely sperm concentration, motility and morphology. This was a true experimental study, with three treatment groups, namely the disinfectant type Alkyl Dimethyl Benzyl Ammonium Chloride (ADBAC) with a concentration of 10 mL/L, pine oil with a concentration of 30 mL/L, and control. The dose of each disinfectant was determined from the initial LD50 study. 20 mL of each disinfectant was sprayed on the cage twice a day in the absence of animals. The animals used were four week old male Mus musculus and were treated for 5 weeks. The parameters observed consisted of sperm concentration, motility, and morphology. All data were analyzed by one way Anova and Duncan's advanced test. The analysis results showed that the disinfectant had no effect on sperm concentration but instead had a negative effect on sperm motility and morphology. Both types of disinfectants reduced the progressive motility of sperm, while ADBAC produced more abnormal sperm morphology than pine oil. This condition is in accordance with other research that sperm motility is closely related to sperm morphology. The results of this study add to the evidence that disinfectants have a negative effect on male fertility parameters, namely sperm quality. The use of disinfectants for long periods also requires attention.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of Liquid Organic Fertilizer (LOF) made from a mixture of cocoa husks (Theobroma cacao L.) and kepok banana peels (Musa balbisiana) on the growth of mustard greens (Brassica rapa). The study was conducted in Biting Village, Arjasa District, Jember Regency, using a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with five LFO concentration treatments (0%-40%) and eight replications. Observed parameters included plant height, leaf area, and number of leaves. Data analysis was performed using normality and homogeneity tests, followed by ANOVA or the Kruskal-Wallis test if the requirements were not met. The results showed that the 30% LFO treatment (P3) produced the highest number of leaves and was significantly different from the other treatments. Meanwhile, plant height and leaf area did not show significant differences. These findings indicate that the LFO mixture of cocoa husks and kepok banana peels has the potential as an alternative organic fertilizer that selectively supports vegetative plant growth, particularly in increasing leaf number, and also contributes to a sustainable agricultural system based on local waste.

Abstract

This research aims to develop and test the feasibility of learning media in the form of digital comics on the hormone system material for class XI as a supporting tool in biology learning. This research uses the ADDIE development model, which consists of five stages: Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The media was validated by two experts, namely material experts and media experts, with validity results of 97% and 90%, respectively, which fall into the very feasible category. Trials were conducted at two schools, namely MA Raudatul Ulum and MA Miftahul Ulum, with 27 students each. Cognitive learning outcomes were analyzed through pretest and posttest, which showed a significant improvement. At MA Raudatul Ulum, the average posttest score reached 84 with a completeness rate of 92%, while at MA Miftahul Ulum, it reached 83 with a completeness rate of 88%. These results indicate that digital comic media is effective in improving students' understanding of hormone system material. Thus, this media can be an alternative solution in biology learning that is more engaging and interactive.   Keywords: Digital Comics, Hormone System, Learning Outcomes
