Abstract

This article aims to uncover preventive efforts against sexual harassment in higher education conducted by UIN KH Abdurrahman Wahid Pekalongan[1], which involved education based on Islamic gender justice. Education based on gender justice values in Islam needs to be carried out because Islam is a Rahmatanlil'alamin religion and is the main pillar of human values. This qualitative study employed interviews, observations, and documentation for collecting data. Meanwhile, the data analysis techniques proposed by Miles, Huberman, and Saldana, like data condensation, data presentation, concluding, and verification. The findings indicated that the portrait of sexual harassment phenomena among students could be considered an urgent condition. The student's understanding of sexual violence, Islamic gender justice, and preventing and handling sexual violence regulations was still inadequate. Moreover, various cases of sexual harassment, ranging from verbal to physical forms, have been identified. However, the preventive efforts against sexual harassment by UIN Gusdur through PSGA[2] and ULT SETARA[3] have been relatively effective. Meanwhile, education based on Islamic gender justice is carried out by socializing the problems cases regarding understanding gender and Islam.[1] K.H Abdurrahman Wahid Pekalongan State Islamic University (UIN) usually called UIN Gusdur Pekalongan, is located on Jl. Hero KM 5 Kajen Pekalongan Regency, Central Java 51156.[2] Center for Gender and Child Studies (PSGA) is a study center that focuses on issues of gender equality and justice in higher education [3] Integrated Service Unit (ULT) SETARA is a service under the center for gender and child studies which focuses on preventing and handling sexual violence at UIN Gusdur Pekalongan

Abstract

Child abuse is a complex and profound issue, often involving various internal and external factors. This article examines the role of close individuals, such as family, peers, and the educational environment, in the advocacy and protection of children from violence. The primary focus of this research is how the interactions between children and their close ones can serve as early preventers and protectors against violence. The family, as the first environment encountered by the child, plays a crucial role in creating a sense of security and providing physical and emotional protection. Peers, while they can be a source of support, can also contribute to worsening the situation through bullying and verbal abuse, requiring active intervention by adults. The educational environment is also considered an important factor in educating children about their rights, as well as how to recognize and report violence. This article suggests that educational programs focused on positive parenting, emotional management, and healthy communication within families can raise public awareness about the dangers of child abuse. Additionally, increasing accessibility to legal and psychological services, as well as legal assistance for victims, is crucial to ensure that children can obtain the help they need. The research concludes that a collective effort from families, peers, education, and society as a whole is essential in creating a safe environment for children and protecting them from violence.

Abstract

The high prevalence of child marriage in Indonesia has become a pressing issue, not only at the national but also at the global level. Preventive efforts require a collaborative and multi-faceted approach that goes beyond legal regulations and incorporates social, psychological, spiritual dimensions, as well as marriage guidance. This article aims to explore a collaborative psychosocial-spiritual governance model that integrates marriage guidance in the prevention of child marriage in Indonesia. This research was conducted using an exploratory qualitative approach in Jombok Village, Trenggalek, East Java, and Woro Village, Rembang, Central Java. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with various stakeholders including government officials, religious leaders, local psychologists and cultural figures, local activists, NGOs, as well as couples/families experiencing child marriage. The research results indicate that social innovation for preventing child marriage is implemented through the principles of collaborative governance based on a psychosocial-spiritual approach, with multi-level involvement from villages, sub-districts, to districts. Education, mentoring, and marriage counseling programs are carried out in stages, encompassing social assistance based on child protection, psychological support, and strengthening religious values. This approach demonstrates that effective prevention strategies are not only focused on formal regulations but also on value transformation, community capacity building, and creating an ecosystem that supports children's rights. The overall efforts aim at preventing child marriage in a more holistic, inclusive, gender-just manner, and contextualized with the local values of Indonesian society.

Abstract

Radicalism among university students shows a worrying trend, especially through the penetration of intolerant ideologies on social media; therefore, a value-based preventive approach is needed. The purpose of this study is to develop a Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) group counseling model based on Ahlussunnah wal Jamaah (ASWAJA) values to enhance students’ religious moderation. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) design following the Borg and Gall model, encompassing preliminary studies, model design, expert validation, and field testing. The expert validation yielded a feasibility score of 130, categorized as good and appropriate. The effectiveness test utilized a pre-test–post-test control group design involving 20 students from Universitas Islam Negeri K.H. Abdurrahman Wahid Pekalongan selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively using a paired sample t-test. The results revealed a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05) and an N-Gain of 60.09% (moderate), indicating the model’s effectiveness in improving religious moderation. This study presents an innovative counseling model that integrates REBT with ASWAJA values, contributing theoretically to the development of value-based REBT approaches and, practically, as a preventive framework against radicalism in higher education.
