A nation makes various efforts to improve education in order to create future generations who are intellectual without losing their original traditions. So that future generations are able to compete in following developments in the world of education. in the world of education. Education is a cultural process that is always faced with changing times. Changes Education is very relevant to the needs of society, both in terms of concepts, materials or curriculum, processes, functions, and goals of educational institutions. goals of educational institutions. Islamic education is currently faced with the challenges of modern human life, where in general, modern society is a proactive, individual, and competitive society. In the world of education, technological advances are very undeniable, the existence of knowledge and information that is easily accessed by many people should be able to control existing problems but it turns out that on the contrary, it is getting out of control. due to the impact that occurs in modern society, scientists give birth to their thoughts responding to the phenomena that occur in modern society to influence the lives of modern people. Fazlur Rahman is a scientist who poured his thoughts on modern Islam combining general knowledge and religious knowledge. So that Rahman's ideas are expected to be able to produce a strong personal religion and have adequate knowledge. Abstract

Qur'anic interpretation with a rational style usually led to controversy. It gives a large portion for the mind to explore the scripture interpretation realm. Nevertheless, a rational style of interpretation is required to open the horizon of Qur'anic exegesis, especially with regard to kauniyah verses. Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, one of the reformist thinkers of India, gave a large portion of the Qur'anic interpretation. He gave a wide ratio of freedom in interpreting and understanding the Qur'an. Based on his works, this paper finds that Khan has not paid much attention to the Islamic scholastic theology in his style of Qur'anic exegesis. He only mentioned it briefly; the properties of God, the Throne ('Arsy), seeing God in the afterlife. He prefers to reform the concept of Classical 'Ilm al-Kalām and the renewal of 'Ilm al-Kalām. He is very well-known to have a strong preference towards Greek philosophy. The kauniyah verses must be interpreted and viewed from the framework of modern science, because it is a necessity and the answer to the challenge that Islam and the Qur'an are the teachings which are Shalihun likulli zaman wa makan, for it must always be in line with the development of science.

Abstract

Penelitian ini menjelaskan tentang sejarah terbentuknya relasi itelektual antara Kasunanan Surakarta dengan Pondok Pesantren Gebang Tinatar Tegalsari Ponorogo. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian sejarah yang dimulai dari pemilhan topik, pengumpulan sumber, memverifikasi sumber, interpretasi atau penafsiran dan penulisan sejarah. Penulis mendapatkan manuskrip berupa kitab Ihya’ Ulumuddin di Masjid Agung Surakarta, Kitab Primbon Jawa milik Ahmad Wahyu Sudrajat, Kitab Sittin Adliyah, Kitab Bahjatul Ulum fi Syarh Aqidatul Ushul, dan arsip kolonial, buku, dan wawancara. Metode penelitian sejarah yang dimulai dari pemilihan topik, pengumpulan sumber, memverifikasi sumber, interpretasi atau penafsiran dan penulisan sejarah. Penulis menitikberatkan pada sumber-sumber primer dan sekunder berupa manuskrip kitab Ihya’ Ulumuddin di Masjid Agung Surakarta, Kitab Primbon Jawa milik Ahmad Wahyu Sudrajat, Kitab Sittin, Kitab Bahjatul Ulum fi Syarh Aqidatul Ushul, Arsip Kolonial, buku, artikel, dan wawancara. Penelitian ini menghasilkan kesimpulan bahwa dengan adanya relasi intelektual ini mampu mengembangkan khazanah sejarah islam mengenai jaringan ulama yang berdasarkan sanad keilmuan bukan hanya nasab keluarga saja. Terbukti dengan munculnya beberapa tokoh yang berpengaruh berasal dari sanad keilmuan ini. Temuan ini diharapkan dapat memberikan wawasan bagi pembaca guna mengembangkan kembali sejarah dari jaringan keulamaan di wilayah masing-masing terutama di bidang sanad keilmuan. Abstract

This research was motivated by the results of a survey of researchers at the Islamic boarding school Majlis Tafsir Al-Quran Mojogedang, which applies the Kuliiyatul mu'alliminal Islamiyah (KMI) system, which requires students to discipline in official languages combined with the philosophy of the "Compassion" approach in formal and non-formal teaching and learning processes. This study aims to describe the pattern of the "Compassion" approach in Arabic learning in this cottage. Descriptive qualitative research with field research methods is used to achieve this goal. The subjects in this study were lodge leaders, KMI directors, teachers' Language Section (LAC), santri Language Section (CLI). Data is collected through observations, interviews, and documentation after the data is obtained, analyzed, and conclusions are drawn. The conclusion drawn from this study is that the Compassion Approach in language learning has been the foundation since the beginning of the Language learning system, starting from Planning, Organizing, Actuating, controlling, and Evaluating, the formation of a mature language system is the love of the lodge towards the students represented by the entire Language Advisory Board. Language activities such as Ilqa al-Mufrodāt, Muḥādaśah, Muḥādarah, Language Court, and Language Extracurricular Activities have become a means of "affection" for students in MTA Islamic boarding schools where these activities there is a pattern of compassion education patterns that have been arranged in such a way as responsibility, example, and non-violence.

Abstract

This article examines the construction of Sufi epistemology according to two major Islamic thinkers: Abu Hamid al-Ghazali and Ahmad ibn Taimiyyah. These figures represent contrasting poles in Islamic intellectual history—al-Ghazali as a defender and reformer of syarī‘ah-based Sunni Sufism, and Ibnu Taimiyyah as a sharp critic of Sufism influenced by speculative theology and philosophy. The study explores their views on the sources, methods, and validity of Sufi knowledge, particularly regarding maqām, aḥwāl, kasyf, ilhām, and ma‘rifah, as well as their perspectives on the relationship between reason, revelation, and intuition (dzawq) as epistemic pathways. This research is qualitative in nature, with literature study, and historical-philosophical approach. The authors examine the primary works of both figures and compares them through a chronological and systematic framework. It allows for an exploration of the sociocultural and theological contexts that shaped their epistemological constructions. The study finds that al-Ghazali integrates rational inquiry (syahādah al-‘aql) with inner illumination (kashf), framing ma‘rifah as the product of synergy between tazkiyah al-nafs and tajallī ilāhī. He legitimizes intuitive knowledge as long as it remains within the bounds of the syarī‘ah. Ibnu Taimiyyah, while acknowledging ilhām and kasyf among the saints (awliyā’), restricts their epistemic validity to the limits of nash and fithrah, rejecting any claim that spiritual experience can supersede revelation. Despite their differing approaches, both uphold syarī‘ah-rooted spirituality and reject speculative excesses that threaten the foundations of tawḥīd.

Abstract

This article aims to conduct a comparative analysis of the concept of spirituality offered by two prominent modernist Muslim thinkers of the 20th century, Haji Abdul Malik Karim Amrullah (HAMKA) from Indonesia and Fazlur Rahman from Pakistan, as their intellectual response to the challenges of modernity that threaten the relevance of traditional Islamic spirituality. Using in-depth textual analysis and conceptual comparison methods, this study critically examines the main works of both figures, focusing on HAMKA’s Tasauf Moderen and Fazlur Rahman’s ideas on Qur’anic hermeneutics. The study results show that although both share the goal of revitalizing Islamic spirituality to make it functional and relevant, they take fundamentally different approaches. HAMKA undertakes a reform of Sufism from within the tradition, centred on moral education (akhlak) and pastoral care for a mass audience. In contrast, Fazlur Rahman undertakes a radical methodological reconstruction that makes Qur’anic ethics, explored through double movement hermeneutics, the foundation of spirituality oriented toward taqwa (moral-historical responsibility) and philosophical-critical. The conclusion of this research affirms that both models, HAMKA’s accessible reformist-pastoral approach and Rahman’s methodologically robust reconstructive-philosophical approach, though different, collectively offer a rich and complementary intellectual and ethical framework. Implicitly, their thoughts provide vital conceptual resources for contemporary Muslim societies in navigating complex challenges such as religious extremism, consumerist materialism, and secularism, while paving the way for future syntheses of Islamic thought.

Abstract

To face the swift flow of the times there needs to be a lot of effort in creating a generation of qur'ani through the activities of reading and writing the Qur'an one of them. The implementation of this research was carried out at MTs Nizhamiyah Ploso Jombang, using Qualitative research methods by obtaining data from sources of interviews of related parties and documentation. The purpose of the study was to determine the strategy of MTs Nizhamiyah Ploso in trying to create a generation of qur'ani through the activities of reading and writing the Qur'an. qur'ani generation is formed through a qur'an-based education In the implementation of reading and writing the Qur'an at MTs Nizhamiyah Ploso Jombang using the Tilawati Method and its implementation in the morning before the KBM starts, which has a noble goal of making students able to read the Qur'an, memorise and of course practice the teachings that are in it.

Abstract

Penelitian ini merekonstruksi konsep kesehatan mental holistik dengan menempatkan karya pelopor psikologi Islam abad ke-9, Abū Zayd al-Balkhī, dalam kerangka metafisika Islam yang lebih luas. Berangkat dari kritik terhadap reduksionisme paradigma psikologi sekuler yang cenderung melihat manusia sebagai entitas biologis-mekanistik, studi ini bertujuan menghadirkan model terapeutik yang mengakui dimensi transenden dan spiritualitas manusia. Metode yang digunakan adalah kualitatif berbasis studi kepustakaan (library research) dan analisis isi terhadap magnum opus al-Balkhī, Maṣāliḥ al-Abdān wa al-Anfus. Data dianalisis melalui pendekatan hermeneutika integratif untuk mensintesis temuan klinis al-Balkhī dengan kerangka ontologis dan epistemologis yang dikemukakan Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas serta konsep dinamika jiwa dalam tradisi Al-Ghazzālī dan Ibn al-Qayyim. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa karya al-Balkhī sebelumnya menyingkap relasi tubuh-jiwa yang sejalan dengan konsep psikosomatik modern; teknik restrukturisasi kognitif yang diusulkannya memiliki landasan teologis yang membedakannya dari praktik CBT Barat; dan integrasi klinis antara warisan al-Balkhī dan metafisika al-Attas menghasilkan model terapeutik bertingkat yang tidak sekadar mengurangi gejala, melainkan juga menekankan proses penyucian jiwa (tazkiyah). Temuan ini menawarkan dasar konseptual bagi pengembangan Traditional Islamically Integrated Psychotherapy (TIIP) yang dapat diuji dan dikembangkan lebih lanjut dalam kajian klinis serta diklaim valid secara syariat dan relevan secara terapeutik.
