Abstract

Background: Periodontal tissue, comprising gingiva, periodontal ligament, cementum, and alveolar bone, supports and surrounds teeth. Periodontitis, an inflammation affecting these tissues, manifests through gingival inflammation, pocket formation, and loss of attachment and bone.Purpose: This research aims to investigate whether ozonated olive oil influences neutrophil cell levels in the gingiva of male Wistar rats with periodontitis.Method: Employing a posttest-only control group design, this laboratory study included 24 male Wistar rats with concentrated periodontitis divided into six groups based on the day of observation. Histological analysis was conducted on days 1, 3, and 5, with three control groups and treatment groups.Result: The hypothesis test revealed a significant difference in neutrophil cell count between the ozonated olive oil treatment group and the control group (p < 0.05). The treatment group exhibited superior outcomes compared to control and other treatment groups, as confirmed by the LSD Post Hoc Test (p < 0.05).Conclusion: Administration of ozonated olive oil can influence neutrophil cell involvement in periodontitis healing among male Wistar rats, suggesting its potential therapeutic efficacy

Abstract

This study aims to determine students' understanding of reading skills using the English stories application. The method used in this study was Quasi Experimental Design with 20 students at SMPN 10 Palopo as research subjects. Pretest and posttest techniques to collect data in this study. One of the teaching materials used is a story that is in the application with the theme of fable stories with the title the little mouse. Reading comprehension activities last 15 minutes. After that, students are asked questions about the contents of the story for evaluation using a written test. The results of the study showed that there was an activity to improve reading comprehension skills in class VIII students of SMPN 10 Palopo, as evidenced by the processing of the test results given to students. Thus it can be concluded that using the English stories application can improve students' reading comprehension skills significantly.Keywords:  English stories,Application,Reading Comprehension

Background: Green mussel shell nanochitosan is a size modification of chitosan obtained from green mussel shells that have been processed with specific standards. Nanochitosan from green mussel shells has not been researched for its anti-bacterial properties against Prevotella intermedia  bacteriaPurpose: This study aims to determine the antibacterial effect on the growth of Prevotella intermedia bacteria. Abstract

Abstract: Post-obturation flare-up is an endodontic complication characterized by acute pain resulting from inflammatory responses in periapical tissues. Contributing factors include debris extrusion, inadequate obturation, and sealer toxicity. We reported an 18-year-old male presented with pain in the upper left maxillary premolar three days after root canal obturation. Radiographic and CBCT evaluation revealed underfilling of the palatal root canal. Retreatment was performed by removing gutta-percha with an H-file and orange oil, followed by re-preparation using the crown-down technique. Irrigation was carried out with 2.5% NaOCl and 2% chlorhexidine. Intracanal medication with a mixture of calcium hydroxide and 2% chlorhexidine paste was applied. After one week, the patient was asymptomatic, and re-obturation was completed using the lateral condensation technique with eugenol-based sealer. In the two-week follow-up, the patient remained symptom-free, and definitive restoration with a porcelain-fused-to-metal crown was placed. In conclusion, post-obturation flare-up may occur due to inadequate obturation. Root canal retreatment with intracanal medication combining Ca(OH)2 and 2% CHX is effective in relieving symptoms, eliminating persistent microorganisms, and preventing recurrent infection. Keywords: flare-up; root canal retreatment; calcium hydroxide; chlorhexidine   Abstrak: Flare-up pasca obturasi merupakan komplikasi endodontik yang ditandai dengan nyeri akut akibat respon inflamasi pada jaringan periapikal. Faktor penyebabnya meliputi ekstrusi debris, obturasi yang tidak adekuat, dan toksisitas bahan sealer. Kami melaporkan seorang pasien laki-laki berusia 18 tahun datang dengan keluhan nyeri pada premolar maksila kiri tiga hari setelah dilakukan obturasi saluran akar. Pemeriksaan radiografi dan CBCT menunjukkan obturasi akar palatal tidak mencapai panjang kerja penuh (underfilling). Dilakukan perawatan ulang berupa pembongkaran gutta-percha menggunakan H-file dan orange oil, dilanjutkan preparasi ulang dengan teknik crown-down. Irigasi intraoperatif menggunakan NaOCl 2,5% dan chlorhexidine 2%. Medikasi intrakanal diberikan berupa kombinasi kalsium hidroksida dan chlorhexidine 2%. Setelah satu minggu, pasien bebas gejala, dan dilakukan obturasi ulang dengan teknik kondensasi lateral menggunakan sealer berbasis eugenol. Pada kontrol dua minggu, pasien tetap asimtomatik dan restorasi akhir dilakukan dengan mahkota jaket PFM. Simpulan studi ini ialah flare-up pasca obturasi dapat dipicu oleh obturasi yang tidak adekuat. Retreatment saluran akar dengan kombinasi medikasi intrakanal Ca(OH)2–CHX 2% efektif dalam meredakan gejala, mengeliminasi mikroorganisme persisten, serta mencegah infeksi berulang. Abstract

Root canal treatment is an action carried out by removing pulp tissue, both vital and necrotic from the root canal, followed by filling using materials that are suitable for the purpose of cleaning the root canal from necrotic tissue and microorganisms from the root canal. In this case, the final restoration used is a porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) crown supported by a fiber core and pegs that can increase resistance to fracture in the tooth after endodontic treatment. A 39-year-old man complained of hollowed left upper back teeth. The patient said that the complaint was felt since 3 years ago in the upper left tooth, there was no pain until the time of examination, food was often tucked and the patient had never done treatment on the tooth. The treatment plan to be carried out is root canal treatment with restoration of the crown of the jacket with fiber pegs in the root canal in the case of tooth pulp necrosis 25 with lacerated roots. The three main stages in root canal treatment are known as the endodontic triad, namely biomechanical preparation, sterilization, and hermetic root canal obturation. The purpose of root canal treatment is to eliminate pathogenic microorganisms and infected pulp tissue from within the root canal, prevent the formation of toxic products, as well as protect periapical tissue.

Abstract

The first premolar maxillary has a complex diversity of root canal configurations. Identification of the proper root canal configuration greatly determines the success of endodontic treatment. Periapical radiography remains an easily accessible and useful examination to detect the possibility of more than one root canal through radiograph retrieval with the principle of Same Lingual Opposite Buccal, i.e. horizontal angulation changes and canal shadow variation analysis. To report the role of periapical radiography in identifying the configuration of the Vertucci root canal type II in the first premolar of the maxillary and its implications for endodontic management. A 39-year-old male came in with a complaint of cavities in the first premolar tooth of the left maxillary (Tooth 24). Initial periapical radiographs show the suspicion of the presence of more than one root canal. Taking radiographs with angulation variations helps to clarify the relationship of the root canal, which appears to be separate in the coronal and middle part of the root and then merge before reaching the apex, according to the Vertucci type II configuration. The radiography findings were used as a basis for determining treatment strategies and were confirmed on postoperative radiographs. Periapical radiography with angulation variations and SLOB principles remains valuable in detecting type II Vertucci configurations and aiding in the planning and implementation of more accurate root canal treatments.

Abstract

Instrument fracture is one of the most common procedural complications encountered in endodontic treatment, with an incidence ranging from 0.25% to 10%. A fractured file retained within the root canal may hinder adequate debridement and obturation, thereby significantly affecting the prognosis of treatment. Periapical radiography plays a crucial role as both a diagnostic modality and a clinical guide in the management of such cases. This case report describes the management of a fractured instrument in the root canal of tooth 22 (maxillary left lateral incisor) using a radiographically guided bypass technique. A 36-year-old male patient presented for continuation of root canal treatment on tooth 22; however, during intracanal medicament placement following canal preparation, the lentulo file fractured. Periapical radiographic examination confirmed the presence of a fractured instrument along the root canal accompanied by a periapical radiolucent lesion. A bypass technique was performed under periapical radiographic guidance at every stage of the procedure, including working length determination, instrument position confirmation, and post-obturation evaluation. Post-treatment radiographic assessment demonstrated hermetic obturation with improvement of the periapical radiolucency at the three-month follow-up. This case report emphasizes that periapical radiography serves as the primary clinical guide in bypass procedures for fractured endodontic instruments within the root canal.
