Abstract

Abstract. This study aimed to investigate the challenges and strategies faced by undergraduate students in Islamic Higher Education when writing theses. The study had four participants, two of whom completed their degrees on time (SGO) and two who failed to do so (SGN). Despite both groups facing challenges and employing strategies, they had some differences in their experiences. Common issues faced by both groups were difficulty generating ideas, selecting a topic, feeling confused and anxious, and procrastination due to various reasons. SGN students faced additional problems such as laziness, unexpected events, and issues with supervisors. The study also found that family support and spiritual practices like prayers and invocations helped students complete their theses. The support and encouragement from their parents served as a significant boost to the students' motivation in finishing the thesis. The study highlights the importance of surrendering to Allah's plan and trusting His wisdom, as well as maintaining a positive outlook and seeking support from family and spirituality. Overall, the study uncovered various problems faced by undergraduate students and the strategies they used to deal with them, emphasizing the importance of perseverance and relying on Allah's guidance. Keywords: Thesis Writing, Challenges, Strategies, Islamic Higher Education, Narrative Inquiry

Abstract

This study analyzed Yılmaz Köylü's TED Talk on future education using a corpus-based approach to identify key lexical features and provide insights into its linguistic structure. The analysis involved transcribing the TED Talk and examining various linguistic metrics, including word frequency, document length, vocabulary density, readability, and collocations using Voyant Tools. The results indicated that the talk contains 2,740 words, with 706 unique forms, demonstrating a rich and varied vocabulary. Key themes such as education, technology, skills, creativity, and innovation were prominent, emphasizing their interconnected roles in shaping the future of education. The readability index corresponded to a 10th-grade level, making the content accessible to a wide audience. Additionally, the analysis revealed a high average number of words per sentence, indicating the use of complex sentence structures. Recommendations for improving readability included simplifying sentences by breaking longer ones into shorter, more concise statements. The study underscores the need to adapt education systems to meet the evolving demands of a rapidly changing world, with technology and creativity playing central roles.

The CDA approach allows for in-depth analysis of how podcast titles reflect and shape ideology, power, and identity. The research results show that the podcast title contains complex discourse content and is related to relations of power and domination in society. The findings reveal that the title reflects societal discontent with governmental performance and advocates for new leadership capable of fostering positive change. Fairclough's CDA illuminates how the title constructs and reinforces power relations within Indonesian society, employing provocative language to incite debate and engage viewers emotionally. This analysis underscores the role of media in shaping   DOI: public discourse and influencing perceptions. By critically evaluating media content, this study contributes to understanding how language and discourse strategies can shape ideological perspectives and societal expectations. Ultimately, the podcast title serves not only as a critique of current governance but also as a catalyst for broader discussions on leadership and societal transformation in contemporary Indonesia.

Abstract

Palm oil exhibits the highest oil productivity per hectare among vegetable oils and is priced more affordably than its counterparts. Consequently, palm oil has gained immense popularity and is currently the most extensively consumed vegetable oil. This condition has prompted a negative campaign against palm oil products, which are required to be produced sustainably. Community palm oil plantations are part of the palm oil agribusiness supply chain, which is also required to implement sustainability aspects. The objective of this study is to evaluate the sustainability of community palm oil plantations that are certified by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) and those that are not certified. This evaluation will be conducted using the Rap-Palmoil method, which employs index assessments across multiple dimensions, including economic, social, environmental, technological, and institutional aspects. The Multidimensional Scaling (MDS) method will be utilised for this analysis. The study was carried out in West Kotawaringin, which is located in a central district known for its palm oil fields. The data utilised comprises both primary and secondary sources. Primary data was acquired through interviews conducted with farmers, while secondary data was obtained from the central statistics agency and the plantation service. The participants in this study consisted of 60 farmers who were chosen by the snowball sampling method. The analysis using the criteria of Kavanagh Pitcher (2004) provided multidimensional results indicating that certified and uncertified community palm oil plantations fall under the "moderately sustainable" category. The sustainability index value for certified community palm oil plantations is higher, specifically 66.50, compared to 53.08 for uncertified ones. Based on each dimension, certified community palm oil plantations are classified as "moderately sustainable" in all aspects except for non-certified community palm oil plantations, which are categorised as less sustainable in two dimensions: environmental and institutional.
