Abstract

This research explores the causality model between trading volume, bid-ask spread, and stock return volatility in the business index-27. Utilizing historical data, Granger causality analysis is employed to determine the direction and strength of the relationships between these variables. The findings reveal significant causal relationships among trading volume, bid-ask spread, and stock return volatility. These findings offer valuable insights into understanding stock market dynamics and their implications for investment decision-making. Moreover,This article contains an analysis of the relationship between stock trading variables within the scope of two main hypothesis namely the mixture of distribution hypothesis (MDH) and the sequential information arrival hypothesis (SIAH). The calculation results identify that for most stocks there is a one way Granger causality relationship between trading volume and return volatility, which is not sufficient evidence to support the MDH theory.

Abstract

In plant heredity, the phenotype is the result of observation that can be directly observed, while the genotype is the underlying hidden factor that underlies the expression of the phenotype. The genotype is an important aspect that needs to be understood to explain the pattern of trait inheritance and predict trait inheritance in subsequent generations. The discrete hidden Markov model is a model generated by pair of an unobserved Markov chain and an observation process. This model can be applied to tetraploid plant crosses by modeling genotypes as hidden state and phenotypes as the obeservation process. The probability of dominant phenotype in monohybrid, dihybrid and trihybrid crosses occurring over ten generations during that period is as follows 61,305%, 37,583%, and 23,041%. Furthermore, as more traits are crossed, the probability of dominant phenotype appearing within ten generations decreases. When the dominant phenotype occurs over ten generations, the same genotype can be obtained in monohybrid, dihybrid, and trihybrid crosses, which is heterozygous in the first and second generations, while from the third to the tenth generation it is homozygous dominant.

Abstract

Abstract. This research aims to analyze the characteristics of international tourists in Indonesia using Clustering Method: Complete Linkage. The study successfully identified 5 distinct clusters based on nationality and tourism travel characteristics. The analysis showed significant differences between clusters in terms of country of origin, travel patterns, preferences, expenditure, and tourist activities. Cluster 1 was dominated by ASEAN and Middle Eastern countries with stable visitation patterns influenced by geographical proximity and cultural and business relationships. Cluster 2 was the largest group, encompassing various countries with holiday and business tourism characteristics, longer stays, and higher expenditure. Clusters 3, 4, and 5 each consisted of a single country: Timor Leste, Hong Kong, and Papua New Guinea respectively, with unique visitation patterns. Each cluster showed differences in travel purposes, length of stay, expenditure, and activities of interest. A deep understanding of each tourist group’s characteristics was crucial for developing more targeted tourism marketing strategies. The clustering results could be utilized for infrastructure planning, resource allocation, promotional strategies, and service improvements tailored to each group’s characteristics, thereby enhancing tourist experiences and Indonesia’s overall tourism competitiveness.

Abstract

Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP) is a problem in shipping that focuses on distributing goods from a depot to customers. There are several developments from VRP, one of which is the Multi Depot Vehicle Routing Problem (MDVRP). The MDVRP model has the same goal as the VRP, which is to minimize travel costs. The difference between VRP and MDVRP depends on the depot used. In VRP, only one depot is used. Whereas in MDVRP, there is more than one depot used. This research discussed the delivery of goods to two depots. The aim of this research is to form a model for shipping goods using two depots, determine the total travel cost, and determine the optimal route to delivery of the goods. The data used in this research is secondary data. The result of this research is that the model for the MDVRP aims to minimize the total travel cost by using two depots and serving 10 customer locations. The total cost of the trip is IDR 390,000, with a total distance traveled as far as 300 km, and the optimal routes for delivering goods involve each depot making two trips. The first depot covers distances of 57 km and 48 km, and the second depot covers distances of 92 km and 103 km.

Abstract

Abstract

Objectives: This study analyzes customer migration patterns among five major banks (BCA, BNI, BRI, BSI, and Bank Mandiri) in Batam’s strategic maritime economic zone using a Markov Chain model to assess long-term market dynamics and financial inclusion implications. The research aims to quantify interbank transition probabilities, to identify key switching drivers, and to develop targeted policy recommendations. Methods: Using a quantitative descriptive-analytical approach, we collected structured questionnaires from 250 Batam Institute of Technology academic members, capturing historical bank transitions and 5-point Likert-scale evaluations of eight switching factors. These factors included ATM/branch proximity, administrative fees, mobile/internet banking service, salary/ scholarship payment linkages, promotions/rewards, interest rates, family/friend recommendations, and Sharia compliance. Data were analyzed via Markov Chain modeling to project steady-state distributions. Results: The transition matrix revealed BCA’s superior retention (85.1%) compared to peers, with steady-state projections showing market dominance (32.44%), followed by Bank Mandiri (26.51%) and BSI (26.39%). Salary linkages (mean score: 3.45) and ATM accessibility (3.16) emerged as primary retention drivers, while BCA’s digital services (3.40) and low fee perception (3.67) explained its competitive edge. Paradoxically, BSI capitalizes on institutional salary systems (4.27) despite moderate Sharia compliance ratings (2.87). Implications: Three key policy directions emerge: hybrid digital-physical banking for coastal communities, Islamic financial ecosystem development, and fee transparency regulations. The study advances Markov Chain applications in behavioral finance while providing SEZ-specific insights for inclusive banking strategies.

Abstract

This study aims to optimize classroom allocation for shift lecture schedules at the Batam Institut of Technology (ITEBA) using a Markov chain model. Classroom utilization data from the Odd and EVen Semesters of the 2024/2025 Academic Year were analyzed by defining four classroom usage states: occupied in the morning shift and vacant in the evening shift (OV), vacant in the morning shift and occupied in the evening shift (VO), occupied in both morning and evening shifts (OO), and vacant in both morning and evening shifts (VV). State transition analysis revealed patterns in classroom allocation dynamics between semesters, while steady-state analysis projected long term utilization. The results show a steady-state probability of 74.04% for the OO state (optimal utilization), but 15.48% of classrooms remain in the VV state (chronic underutilization). Based on these findings, the study recommends a classroom consolidation strategy based on complementary patterns, implementation of a digital reservation system, and optimization of single shift usage. This study concludes that the Markov chain model provides a scientific basis for strategic decision making in educational facility management.
