Abstract

The objective of this study is to analyze the financial performance of PT Media Nusantara Citra, Tbk. by utilizing profitability ratios and economic value added as the basic measurement. In this research, to calculate profitability ratios and economic value added, there are factors to employ, including COGS, NOPAT, invested capital, cost of debt, cost of equity, market value of the firm’s equity, income tax, market value of the firm’s liabilities, weighted average cost of capital (WACC), and capital charges. From a sample of the corporation’s annual reports over the 2007-2015 time span, our empirical results show a fluctual movement while showing an average growth of ROA at 11%, 15% ROE, 38% GPM, 28% NPM, and 47% TAT annually. A deeper analysis however reveals that the company is producing a high enough profit, hence the ability to cover its cost of capital over the following years. This paper also suggests several recommendations to maximize its value in the following years.

Abstract

Public speaking skills are essential in various aspects of life, including academic and professional environments. This article discusses the implementation of the public speaking workshop for students of SMA Santo Kristoforus II Jakarta, organized by Universitas Bunda Mulia (UBM) as part of community service activities. The workshop aims to enhance students' understanding of the basic elements of public communication, recognize personality traits, and practice public speaking skills. The workshop methods include material presentations, case studies, and hands-on practice using the Personality Plus approach, which categorizes personalities into four types: Sanguine, Choleric, Melancholic, and Phlegmatic. The case study of Greta Thunberg, a young environmental activist with communication limitations, was used as an inspiration to overcome public speaking anxiety. The training results indicate an increase in students' self-confidence and a better understanding of how to adapt communication styles based on personality characteristics. This training is expected to have a lasting positive impact on students, both in academic contexts and their future social interactions.

Abstract

Video-on-demand (VOD) services have transformed media consumption globally, with platforms such as Netflix and local providers like Vidio gaining popularity in Indonesia. This study explores the impact of VOD on user behaviours, demographic influences, and health implications in Indonesia, whereby rapid internet expansion drives its adoption. This study aimed to explore how VOD consumption affects daily habits as well as how binge-watching affects health. This research focuses on Indonesia’s unique context with a survey of 422 respondents to analyse VOD habits, and quantitative statistical methods were applied to assess behavioural patterns based on demographic variables. Findings reveal that younger users are the primary consumers of VOD, often engaging with media during work or study hours, resulting in sleep disruption and mental health concerns such as anxiety. Gender differences were notable, with female respondents reporting higher sleep disturbances. Binge-watching behaviour was strongly correlated with health impacts, emphasising the need for better viewing habits. The study concludes that while VOD has enhanced media access and diversity, it has also introduced health risks, particularly for younger audiences. These findings provide valuable insights for VOD platforms and policymakers aiming to promote balanced media consumption. Future research should examine broader demographic trends and long-term effects.

Abstract

This study analyzes how Flores' cultural elements are used as a marketing communication strategy at Kafe Bajawa. Using a qualitative approach and Oswald’s marketing semiotics analysis, the research explores the meanings embedded in cultural elements such as Komodo statues, woven fabrics, Sasando musical instruments, photographs of Flores residents, a map of Flores Island, and the collaboration of traditional music with modern genres. Data were collected through direct observation of both exterior and interior decorations, as well as customer interviews to understand their responses to the presented cultural elements. The findings indicate that Flores' cultural elements play a significant role in shaping the café's identity and appeal. Analysis based on Consumer Brandscape shows that cultural signs create an authentic and unique impression, while emotional territories indicate that these cultural elements build emotional connections with customers through a comfortable and dynamic atmosphere. There is no cultural tension between traditional and modern elements; instead, they harmoniously blend, particularly in interior design and the music experience. From the perspective of cultural categories, Kafe Bajawa successfully positions itself as a venue that embodies Flores' cultural heritage in a modern context. Data triangulation through customer interviews confirms that the displayed cultural elements reinforce the café’s image as a space rich in local identity while remaining comfortable for an urban audience. The success of this strategy lies in balancing culture and modernity, creating an engaging experience that fosters customer loyalty.

Abstract

Data leaks are not only the responsibility of the government but also a shared responsibility individually. In July 2024, Kominfo experienced a ransomware attack that had an impact on the leak of people's personal data. Various responses from netizens on social media X pressured the government to immediately handle this case firmly. This study aims to look at the interactions formed in social media users X through a review of digital discourse on Kominfo's response in overcoming data leaks through the SCCT Coombs model. This study uses the digital discourse analysis method by analyzing the response of netizens in X in responding to the handling of the Kominfo crisis in the period of July 2024 – May 2025. The results of this study found a tendency of negative public sentiment towards the handling of the Kominfo crisis. Public response is influenced by perceived experience, cognition, and expectations to the government for handling data leaks. This research provides development insights for communication crisis practitioners and organizations, especially Kominfo, to optimize their communication crisis strategies based on digital media.

Abstract

Bajawa Café, which carries the theme of an ethnic modern coffee shop, is a café that highlights the culture of NTT (East Nusa Tenggara) and introduces it to urban communities in Jabodetabek (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi). The café’s ambiance is traditional, with a strong Flores cultural nuance. This study aims to measure the influence of customer experience and live music event promotion on consumer loyalty at Bajawa Flores Café as an ethnic brand. The literature review of this research refers to the Elaboration Likelihood Theory (ELT). A sociopsychological research tradition is employed in this study. This research uses a descriptive approach with quantitative methods. The basic assumption of ELT is the study of persuasion, as it predicts when and how a person may or may not change their opinion (be persuaded) by a message or argument they receive. This study adopts a positivist paradigm to describe and explain social life, events, and human behavior. The research was conducted by visiting Bajawa Café to observe firsthand the cultural elements embedded in its exterior and interior, such as symbols, images, merchandise, entertainment offerings, and other aspects discovered during the visit. Questionnaires were distributed as primary data sources. Secondary data for this research included literature studies from books, scientific journals, online news articles, and verified internet sources. This study is expected to contribute to the development of marketing communication strategies that blend modern and traditional themes by measuring the influence of customer experience and live music event promotion on consumer loyalty at Bajawa Flores Café as an ethnic brand.

Abstract

This study investigates the widespread diffusion of educational content by analyzing Ruangguru’s Clash of Champions campaign across Indonesian social media platforms. The proposed model suggests that content characteristics, such as relevance, surprise or uniqueness, visual quality, storytelling, and influencer endorsement, influence virality through emotional engagement, interactivity, and ease of sharing. A cross-sectional online survey of exposed users (N = 265) was analysed with PLS-SEM; adapted scales met reliability and validity standards. Findings show emotional response is a salient driver, with ease of sharing and interactivity also meaningful. Storytelling slightly outperforms influencer support in lifting perceived visual quality. Mediation tests show interactivity transmits the effect of visual quality, ease of sharing transmits information value, and emotional response transmits surprise/uniqueness. Platform differences are discussed, positioning gamification as a cross-cutting mechanism that amplifies emotion, participation, and sharing. The study extends digital virality models to an educational context and offers guidance on sequencing emotional peaks with share cues, narrative-led roles, legible interaction design, and light-touch gamification. Limitations of the study include reliance on self-reported data, a sample skewed toward younger users and focus on a single campaign.

Abstract

The research findings reveal problems in the communication performance at Hotel “A”. For instance, in terms of ritual performance, there is a company culture of working overtime. Additionally, in terms of passion performance, the abundance of job tasks in the in-room dining division diminishes the manager's focus, especially for unexperienced leader in a similar divisions. Social performance shows the existence of factions within the organization but with no significant impact on operations. Political performance manifests as a sense of superiority over certain groups (seniority). Lastly, enculturation performance indicates differences in training between staff levels and daily workers, creating clearer disparities. All of these issues stem from the inadequate communication performance in the in-room dining division at Hotel “A”. If left unaddressed, they may lead to demotivation, a decline in work ethic, and feelings of saturation among employees, ultimately impacting the formation of the company's culture. The researcher suggests that management and Human Resources collaborate to address these issues, fostering open communication and welcoming input to establish positive organizational culture.
