Abstract

Performance characterization of simple and low cost Mach Zehnder interferometer (MZI) using step index plastic optical fiber (SI-POF) to temperature variation is presented.  The sensor consists of two tapers at several distance forming interferometer.  The first taper was designed to be steep to allow excitation of cladding modes, while the second taper was gradual to supress power loss.  Characterizations were done in terms of sensitivity, hysteresis and repeatability by analysing the output spectrums recorded by spectrometer at various environment temperature which are 35oC to 85oC with increment of 10oC.  The results showed that the sensor has sensitivity of 0.0431 nm/oC and correlation coefficient of 0.9965.  Hysteresis of 6.9×10-3was observed.  In terms of repeatability, the sensor shows maximum deviation of ±3oC which was mainly resulted from fluctuation of oven temperature. Despite its high deviation, the sensor has advantages of simple fabrication process, low cost, robust and low power loss which make it as a good candidate for temperature sensor.

Abstract

Model pembelajaran creative problem solving berpendekatan inquiry mampu meningkatkan keterampilan proses sains siswa. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode kuantitatif dengan desain one-group pretest-posttest. Sampel dipilih dengan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling yang berjumlah 34 siswa di kelas X MIA5 tahun ajaran 2016/2017 pada salah satu SMA di kota Semarang. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan tes berbentuk uraian dan dianalisis melalui uji ketuntasan klasikal dengan menggunakan uji Z dan uji peningkatan keterampilan proses sains dengan menggunakan uji N-gain. Model pembelajaran creative problem solving berpendekatan inquiry efektif terhadap keterampilan proses sains siswa dengan kriteria: keterampilan proses sains siswa telah memenuhi proporsi ketuntasan klasikal dengan nilai Zhitung = 1,756 > Ztabel = 1,645 dan terdapat peningkatan keterampilan proses sains siswa yaitu pada indikator mengamati dengan N-gain 0,14 (kategori rendah), indikator klasifikasi dengan N-gain 0,94 (kategori tinggi), indikator interpretasi dengan N-gain 0,41 (kategori sedang), indikator memprediksi dengan N-gain 0,81 (kategori tinggi), indikator mengajukan pertanyaan dengan N-gain 0,92 (kategori tinggi), indikator berhipotesis dengan N-gain 0,93 (kategori tinggi), indikator merencanakan percobaan dengan N-gain 0,43 (kategori sedang), indikator menggunakan alat/bahan dengan N-gain 0,90 (kategori tinggi), indikator menerapkan konsep dengan N-gain 0,32 (kategori sedang), dan indikator berkomunikasi dengan N-gain 0,89 (kategori tinggi).

Abstract

Perkembangan teknologi membuat banyak perubahan dalam berbagai bidang dan sektor aktivitas manusia. Penggunaan teknologi seperti komputer yang berlebihan dapat menyebabkan masalah kesehatan yang ditimbulkan karena pada komputer selain menampilkan gambar dan teks pada monitor komputer yang sedang digunakan juga mengeluarkan radiasi dan gelombang elektromagnetik yang tidak dapat dideteksi oleh indra mata. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh jumlah komputer terhadap tingkat radiasi elektromagnetik dan dampak Kesehatan. Hasil penelitian tingkat radiasi elektromagnetik yang ditimbulkan oleh beberapa jumlah komputer menunjukkan radiasi elektromagnetik sebesar 0.037 mT sampai 0,051 mT. Tingkat radiasi warung internet di desa Jatibarang dengan jumlah komputer 7 unit masih tergolong aman untuk manusia atau pengunjung warung internet.

Abstract

The goals of this research are to identify the characteristics of Problem Based Learning-based student worksheets, determine the feasibility level of Problem Based Learning-based student worksheets, determine the increase in student cognitive learning outcomes, and determine the increase in student problem-solving abilities. The method of this research is Research and Development (R&D) with One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The results of the feasibility test from the validator and the results of the readability test showed that the Problem Based Learning-based student worksheets are very suitable for use in physics learning and this is easy to understand. The use of student worksheets in learning can increase students cognitive learning outcomes and students problem solving abilities.

Abstract

Creative thinking skill is one of the most important skills in the learning process in 21st century. Creative thinking skills influenced by student’s learning interest. Therefore, creative thinking and learning interest must be cultivated through a proper learning process. This research aims to analyze student’s creative thinking skills and learning interest through mind mapping-based creative problem solving learning models. This research method used mixed methods with a sequential explanatory design. The population of this research was all students of class X with 30 students as the sample. The instrument used an essay test for creative thinking, an interview sheet, and learning interest questionnaire. The results of the n-gain alalysis showed an increase for each indicator of the creative thinking skills with an average of 71.73 included in the high criteria. As for the percentage of student’s learning interest is 79.17% which is included in good criteria. The results of the interview showed that there was different creative thinking patterns for each category where students in solving problems tended to begin by understanding the problem, linking scientific theory with their own knowledge, then developing it based on experience and reasoning. However, seen from the answers and interview results, students with very high creative thinking skills are better at providing ideas or conclusions than students with high, medium, and low categories. The results of the correlation analysis showed that there was a positive and significant relationship between student’s learning interest and four indicators of creative thinking skills.

Abstract

The presence of mercury ions is a serious threat to human health and environment. Water consumption containing mercury is very dangerous for human healt. The purpose of this work is to design a heavy metal sensor  ion using plastic optical fiber to detect mercury ions in water. The sensor was fabricated by coating the optical fiber by chitosan through dip-coating technique. There are three diameter of optical fiber sensor that was fabricated, which are 1087.64 μm (sensor A), 1691.64 μm (sensor B) and  1736.33 μm (sensor C). Sensor characterization was done by connected the tip of plastic optical fiber to an LED and the other tip was connected to a photodioda. The results show that sensitivity of sample A is 0.32 mA/ppm, sample B is 0.56 mA/ppm and sample C is 0.64 mA/ppm. In terms of respone time, it is shown that  thr respon time for sensor A, B and C are 22 s, 42.5 s and 86 s respectively.

Abstract

The research aims to determine the potential of tea waste as an environmentally friendly alternative acoustic material. The acoustic material is made by mixing tea waste powder with fox glue and water, formed, and dried. The acoustic material was made into six samples with different compositions of tea wastes, that were 20 g, 40 g, 60 g, 80 g, 100 g, and 120 g. The value of the effectiveness of noise reduction and the coefficient of sound absorption, both were obtained the most optimum in sample 6 with a composition of 120 g, that were 10.1% and 0.07497 dB. The value of both increases with the increase of the composition of the tea wastes in the acoustic material.
