Abstract

This research aims to discuss theories of Love especially in typology perspective which included current Five Love Languages (FLL) theory. This research also examined whether someone who feels loved based on a certain aspect of FLL would also express love in a similar fashion. FLL scale was divided into passive (felt love) and active (express love) form. 637 participants who were/are in a romantic relationship responded to both scales. Regression analysis examined the contribution from each of active FLL aspect toward passive FLL aspects. The result showed passive FLL was determined by active FLL expression and similar passive-active aspects showed the strongest relationship. The result brought implication to future study and on how to better understand a couple’s need to feel loved.

Abstract

Love is an essential part of human experience and love languages have been studied to validate its factors’ structures to explain what makes people feel loved. The current study addresses the gap that love research shall not rely on student samples and it needs to measure the actual outcome of love languages. This study aims to gather empirical evidence for love languages’ factor structure and its relation to the outcome variable. The method for this study is a quantitative survey with 250 couples reported their love languages using a rating-scale and forced-choice scale. The data analysis examined the factor structure of the love languages model and estimated the association between love languages compatibility and marital satisfaction. The factorial analysis showed that the five factors solution was not supported and love languages compatibility did not affect couples’ marital satisfaction. This result brought discussions on how popular psychology concepts need to be under the scrutiny of scientific investigation and that different contexts may have different factors on what makes people feel loved.

Abstract

One of the key developments in psychological data analysis is the Bayesian implementation. This article aims to introduce Bayesian statistics application in psychological research. A data set of Marital Satisfaction and Positive Affect (n = 200) became an example to compare the regression results based on frequentist and Bayesian statistics. The data analysis examined the influence of positive affect on marital satisfaction. Based upon the prior information and observed data, results suggest that the average of the distribution of the posterior coefficient of positive affect is .31, with a deviation standard of .01 and a credible interval ranging from .30 to .33. The study’s results present the unique approach in interpreting the Bayesian result. This article also outlines diagnostic steps to obtain a robust Bayesian result and avoid misuse of Bayesian statistics. Finally, discussions cover the probability principle in Bayesian analysis and how to interpret its result to encourage Indonesian psychological scientists to implement Bayesian as an alternative to data analysis.

Abstract

Love is an indispensable part of human life, and this study specifically investigated the expression of feeling loved. This study aims to explore the association between couples’ feeling loved and different components of wellbeing. We constructed a continuous rating scale to measure couples’ feeling loved and its contribution toward life satisfaction and positive affect. There were 252 couples participated in this study. To examine the measurement’s consistency, this study compared the continuous rating scale of feeling loved with its Likert scale and rating scale counterpart. This study also investigated the role of feeling loved towards the scores of positive affect and life satisfaction as the components of wellbeing. Actor partner interdependence model and linear regression results showed that feeling loved was positively contributed to life satisfaction and positive affect; however, there was no significant interactive effect within partner. This study suggested feeling loved influenced wellbeing, although other predictors may play more prominent roles in determining wellbeing. Keywords: love, feeling loved, wellbeing

Abstract

Prior research on national identity focused on immigrants and racial discrimination. The current study aims to analyze national identity in Indonesia, a country with various ethnicities, especially on Bali. We hypothesized that multicultural attitudes, ethnic identity, and multicultural communication predict national identity. Four hundred undergraduate students completed the questionnaires. Data was analyzed with regression analysis entry method. Our hypothesis was partially supported. The contextual concept and understanding were discussed in explaining the research findings along with its implications

Abstract

This research reexamines composing factors of the Five Love Languages. Previous research has shown differing results on this topic. The Five Love Languages were measured by adapting the Five Love Languages Scale. This scale was then modified to lengthen participants’ response range and add one ancillary item. The research sample comprised of 687 undergraduate students and selected through proportionate quota sampling. Sample age ranges were between 17 and 40 years old. Exploratory factor analysis showed items were laid out accordingly with factor loading for each item ranging from 0.463 up to 0.853. EFA also exhibited love language is constructed by four components. The unique aspect found on this research was sacrificial element.

Abstract

Kata kunci: Skizofrenia, Rumah Berdaya Denpasar, BaliABSTRACTPeople with Schizophrenia (ODS) often get bad treatment from the community because they are considered 'crazy', cannot be independent, and do not get rights like those of other communities. This discrimination drives the creation of cooperation with empowered homes to create a program that can bring ODS closer to the community. The program consists of three parts, namely the psychological assistance of ODS located in Rumah Berdaya, a mental health campaign with ODS at Lumintang Field, closed with seminars and talk shows with ODS at the Dhyana Pura University Hall. From the series of activities, it is expected that the community can be more open to the presence of ODS who have recovered in their surroundings. On the other hand, this program is also expected to help ODS in adjusting to the environment around them after the completion of the Schizophrenia treatment. So, this program is not only useful for ODS and families, but also for the general public who do not yet have an understanding of schizophrenic disorders. Keywords: Schizophrenia, Rumah Berdaya Denpasar, Bali

Abstract

Evaluating one’s loneliness can yield significant benefits as it has been linked to numerous physical and mental health concerns. However, assessing loneliness faces difficulties due to inconsistent findings regarding its factorial structure. This study aims to investigate the internal structure evidence of the UCLA Loneliness Scale among Indonesian unmarried young adult women. A total of 318 participants completed the loneliness, well-being, extraversion, and neuroticism trait scales. Confirmatory factor analysis and bi-partial correlation were conducted to evaluate the validity evidence based on internal structure and relations to external variables. The results suggested that Model 2 (two correlated factors) is the best fit, χ 2 (151, n = 318) = 363.33, p = .000; CFI = .87, TLI = .85, RMSEA = .06, compared to other models tested (unidimensional & three factors). Also, UCLA-LS has two orthogonal structures consisting of favorable and unfavorable items (r = .83, p = .000; r = .72, p = .000, respectively) and negative correlations with well-being (r = -.42, p = .000) and extraversion (r = -.43, p = .000). Conversely, it correlates positively with the neuroticism subscale (r = .22, p = .000). This implies that perceived loneliness is unique among unmarried young adult women in Indonesia, and this scale may become a valuable tool to predict other widespread public health problems associated with loneliness
