Abstract

Ginger is a plant whose rhizome is often used as a spice and raw material for traditional medicine. Ginger contains gingerol which is anti-inflammatory and analgesic so it can reduce pain due to strep throat. The use of ginger is very suitable for various kinds of preparations because apart from having a delicious and distinctive taste and aroma, it also has a function as an infection prevention. In the pharmaceutical industry, ginger is widely used for internal medicine (oral). Ginger candy is one of the processed ginger products that has the potential to be developed. This type of preparation is very practical, lightweight, and can be carried anywhere. Ginger candy is also great for souvenirs. The taste is spicy but gives warmth. The result of this activity is an increase in community knowledge and skills in making ginger candy. Based on the results of observations, the community was very enthusiastic about participating in this counseling activity and it was hoped that the candy could be enjoyed by the elderly. Elderly who are the target of practical activities can enjoy ginger and feel the benefits of ginger easily to maintain their immune system.

Abstract

Evaluating one’s loneliness can yield significant benefits as it has been linked to numerous physical and mental health concerns. However, assessing loneliness faces difficulties due to inconsistent findings regarding its factorial structure. This study aims to investigate the internal structure evidence of the UCLA Loneliness Scale among Indonesian unmarried young adult women. A total of 318 participants completed the loneliness, well-being, extraversion, and neuroticism trait scales. Confirmatory factor analysis and bi-partial correlation were conducted to evaluate the validity evidence based on internal structure and relations to external variables. The results suggested that Model 2 (two correlated factors) is the best fit, χ 2 (151, n = 318) = 363.33, p = .000; CFI = .87, TLI = .85, RMSEA = .06, compared to other models tested (unidimensional & three factors). Also, UCLA-LS has two orthogonal structures consisting of favorable and unfavorable items (r = .83, p = .000; r = .72, p = .000, respectively) and negative correlations with well-being (r = -.42, p = .000) and extraversion (r = -.43, p = .000). Conversely, it correlates positively with the neuroticism subscale (r = .22, p = .000). This implies that perceived loneliness is unique among unmarried young adult women in Indonesia, and this scale may become a valuable tool to predict other widespread public health problems associated with loneliness

Abstract

Parental divorce affects the ability of individuals to flourish. This study aims to determine the relationship between forgiveness and gratitude and the flourishing of emerging adults whose parents have divorced. Voluntary convenience sampling was used to identify respondents (N = 429 emerging adults whose parents had been divorced for at least two years). Data were collected using the Emotional Forgiveness Scale, the Gratitude Questionnaire-Six Item Form, and the PERMA Profiler. Data analysis was performed using multiple regression analysis. The results show that forgiveness and gratitude were significantly associated with flourishing in emerging adults whose parents divorced (R2 = .382, F = 131.634, p < .05). The contribution of gratitude (β = 1.299) to flourishing was greater than that of forgiveness (β = .722). Forgiveness and gratitude can predict flourishing in emerging adults whose parents are divorced, in this case, the role of gratitude is greater than forgiveness. Interventions that combine the basis of forgiveness and gratitude can be used to optimize the flourishing of such emerging adults whose parents are divorced.

Abstract

Modernization and individualistic culture have shifted the values and expectations of the younger generation regarding marriage, leading to delays or decisions not to marry. However, in Indonesia, many single individuals still face social pressure due to societal stigma, as well as religious and cultural values. This pressure can negatively impact the well-being or flourishing of single individuals. This study aims to examine the relationship between sense of community and emotion regulation (cognitive and expressive suppressions) with flourishing among single individuals, using a correlational quantitative method with 105 respondents (Mage = 34.90; SD = 5.84 years) from the Catholic Singles Community “J”. A purposive sampling technique was employed to select the sample. The results of multiple correlation indicated that sense of community and emotion regulation together significantly positively correlate with flourishing (R = 0.293, R2 = 0.086, p < 0.05. Nevertheless, partial correlation analysis revealed a significant positive correlation between the sense of community and flourishing (p<0.05), but a non-significant correlation between emotion regulation (both cognitive and expressive suppression) and flourishing (p>0.05). Although emotion regulation did not directly correlate with flourishing, emotion regulation (cognitive and expressive suppression) were significantly positively correlated with most aspects of sense of community. The implications of this research suggest that enhancing the sense of community plays a crucial role in achieving flourishing among members of a community. Sense of community can be further strengthened when supported by emotion regulation skills within the community context.

Abstract

Being single for some adult women who live in a society that has standards to get married soon will have negative impacts, such as receiving negative stigma, demands, and feelings of shame. These negative impacts can make single adult women have low self-esteem and high fear of being single. The hypothesis of this study is that acceptance and commitment therapy can increase self-esteem scores and decrease fear of being single scores in single adult women. This research using mixed method of quantitative & qualitative. The research design is a single case experimental design. Quantitative data were obtained using the Rosenberg self-esteem scale and the fear of being single scale. Qualitative data were obtained through observation and interviews of single experiences. Analysis of quantitative data using paired sample t-test & trend analysis, and qualitative data using descriptive description. The ACT intervention consists of 7 sessions, where each session lasts approximately 60-90 minutes. It was found that acceptance and commitment therapy successfully increased self-esteem scores and decreased fear of being single in single adult women. Acceptance and commitment therapy helped participants to accept and embrace their condition, provided a ‘locker’ for negative experiences and emotions, fought cognitive distortions, and facilitated participants to find their principles and goals in life.

Abstract

The unique characteristics of autism spectrum conditions present significant challenges for families. Existing research often focuses on mothers' experiences, leading to the underrepresentation of fathers' perspectives. This study aims to highlight the expectations and experiences of fathers raising children on the autism spectrum. Using critical discourse analysis (CDA), the research explored how power dynamics and societal ideologies shape fathers' lived experiences in raising children on the autism spectrum. The fathers' narratives reveal that inadequate support—such as lack of professionalism, limited access to services, and insufficient community involvement—indicates that society has yet to achieve true inclusivity. Additionally, fathers stress the importance of comprehensive support in managing their parenting responsibilities. The findings emphasize (1) the discourse on integrated support services and (2) addressing paternal support: insights from fathers' experiences. These results underscore the need to strengthen support systems for fathers of children on the autism spectrum.
