Abstract

The contribution of the industrial sector to the economy which tends to decline, is also followed by a decrease in poverty in a long period of observation. This unidirectional trend is one of the triggers to explore more deeply the influence of the industrial sector, and several other predictor variables on poverty. The purpose of this study is to analyze the short-term and long-term effects of the industrial sector, agriculture, household consumption, government consumption, and PMTB on the poverty rate in Indonesia in 2000-2021. Data obtained from BPS publications, using quantitative descriptive analysis method with Error Correction Model approach. The regression results in the industrial sector actually show a significant positive effect both in the long and short term. Household consumption has a negative effect both in the long and short term. Then, PMTB has a significant effect in the short term, but weakens in the long term. Meanwhile, government consumption and the agricultural sector have no significant effect on the poverty rate in Indonesia.

Abstract

The island of Sumatra, one of the largest contributors to the Indonesian economy, has experienced increased economic growth from time to time, but the acceleration of growth from each province has a different pace. This study aims to analyze the development and convergence of real per capita income that occurred on the island of Sumatra from 2011-2020, using panel data from 10 provinces in it. The novelty of this study incorporates Klassen's analysis as an effort to provide more concrete recommendations as well as the calculation of the half-life value per province which illustrates the convergence speed of each region. This can support the strength of the recommendation. We also divide the two observation periods, namely during normal conditions, and include 2020 as the year the economic shock occurred to compare changes in the convergence rate. Klassen's typology of economic development on the island of Sumatra for the 2016-2020 period shows a shift in the Riau Island Province towards being depressed and Bangka Belitung in the lagging zone. Meanwhile, Aceh Province is getting closer to the potential zone line. The level of inequality from the average value of the Williamson index is classified as moderate and during the year of observation shows an increase in value indicating convergence. The Covid-19 pandemic has reduced inequality, But on the other hand, the pandemic has also caused a decrease in real income in all the provinces observed, which means that welfare has decreased. The half-time value of each province implies economic stagnation that will occur in depressed developed regions and opens up opportunities for underdeveloped regions to spur growth in their real per capita income. In measuring the convergence itself, there was a convergence of real income per capita on the island of Sumatra. In other words, the conditional convergence model has a relatively higher convergence speed than the absolute convergence model. As an implication of the study, efforts to equalize per capita income on the island of Sumatra can be accelerated by spurring economic growth, HDI, and the distribution of gross fixed capital in areas that are in quadrants 3 and 4. Policies in eradicating poverty are a booster in accelerating the convergence process.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic that occurred in Indonesia, especially in Medan City, made people lose their jobs and had to survive to prevent the transmission of Covid-19. On average, residents who live close to infection-prone areas flock to buy masks and hand sanitizers. The supplies of hand sanitizers at various pharmacies has run out, even though the prices have gone up even ten times. This activity aims to socialize and train the making of hand sanitizers from Eucalyptus citriodora plants as an economic opportunity in the New Normal Era. The solution method is carried out by providing preparation training, extraction, and economic analysis of the availability of raw materials and the feasibility of Hand sanitizer products to the community in Tegal Sari Mandala II Village, Medan Denai District, Medan City. The results that have been achieved are hand sanitizer products made by the community and have high entrepreneurial skills in this New Normal Era. This activity is beneficial for the community, especially in terms of increasing knowledge and skills in making Hand sanitizers that can be applied to improve the economy during the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Abstract

This study analyzes the impact of the QRIS policy in the early stages of implementation on financial performance and expansion of the market share of micro-businesses in Medan City. Financial performance is observed through changes in turnover and net profit; meanwhile, market share is determined based on changes in the number of new customers before and after the implementation of the QRIS policy. This study employs the Difference in Differences (DiD) method. The type of data used is primary data. Purposive and random sampling was utilized with 50 samples of micro businesses for the treatment group and 50 for the control group. The time difference was found between before and after the implementation of the QRIS policy. The results of this study show that the QRIS policy has a positive and significant effect on the increase in new consumers. On the other hand, the QRIS policy has no significant impact on the net profit and turnover of micro businesses. The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly and negatively impacted micro-enterprises, sharply declining revenue and net profit. However, based on the magnitude of the decline, the control group experienced a relatively greater turnover and net profit decline than the treatment group. The implication of this study is the need for efforts to increase micro-entrepreneurs understanding of the importance of faster adaptation to advances in digital technology, one of which is adjustments to a more flexible payment system so that consumers can get a wider choice of payment schemes. In addition, payment system authorities should address various obstacles in using the system and provide more massive socialization of the products offered.

Abstract

The development orientation which is more dominant on growth, has been impaled to widen the inequality gap. The purpose of this study is to analyze the short-term and long-term effects of several determinants of income in Indonesia during 1998-2021. Data sourced from the World Bank in a time series format. The study method uses descriptive quantitative analysis with the Error Correction Model approach. The Gini index is used as the dependent variable, while the independent variables include the ratio of the work force graduates above senior high school, urban population growth, the agricultural sector, haunting, and fisheries, and per capita GDP growth. The stationarity test results show that stationarity occurs in the first derivative data. Cointegration test results using the Engle-Granger method show that the model built has cointegration. The results of the long-term regression show that two variables have a significant effect on the Gini index, namely the ratio of the work force graduates above senior high school which has a positive effect, and the urban population growth rate which has a negative effect. In the short term, the ratio of the work force graduates above senior high school contributes significantly to the increase in the Gini index. Meanwhile, other predictor variables have no significant effect on the Gini index in Indonesia. The lack of support from the agricultural sector in pushing the Gini index down, and the positive role of the highly educated work force, reflects the ongoing development process which still seems exclusive.
