Abstract

This research is purposed to know students’ ability in using Reported speech. The problem of this research is students’ ability in using Reported Speech in unknown yet. Therefore, to solve the problem in this research was descriptive quantitative research. The population of the research was students at grade X of SMA Muhammadiyah Tembilahan. The number of population in this research was 22 students.In this research the researcher used total sampling technique as the taking sample technique, because sample in this research was all of the population and it was less than 100. The data collecting technique in this research was used test in essay test. The number of the items was 25 questions. The students were changed Direct speech into Reported speech. The finding of this research shows that the mean score of the first indicator (Simple Present Tense into Simple Past Tense) was 49.31 it was categorized in enough level. The result of the second indicator (Simple Past Tense into Simple Past Perfect Tense) was 56.95it was categorized enough level. Then, the total mean score from two indicators before the researcher could concluded the result of this research that the students’ ability in using Reported Speech was enough with mean score 52.54. In addition, the students’ classification score showed that 5 students who get good score, 12 students who get enough score, and 5 students who get poor score. Therefore, could be concluded that the students have low ability in using Reported Speech.

Abstract

Literature represent of the certain society. Literature includes poem, prose, and drama. Nowadays, Movie is one of pop-literature that was developing. Many work of art that made into movie in order to of the message to public easily. One of work of art that transform from poplit into movie is the Indiana Jones and the raiders of the Lost Ark. The character that presented by the Indiana Jones represented of the American culture, such as: freedom, stand alone, adventurer, hard work and persistent. In the novel is not seen about American culture but after it was transformed into movie of the American culture appeared which is freedom and adventurer which have been mentioned above.

Abstract

This research is purposed to know students’ ability in using Reported speech. The problem of this research is students’ ability in using Reported Speech in unknown yet. Abstract

The complexity and distinctiveness of gossip and gossiping have highlighted the recent viral short movie, Tilik (2018). It is important to note that gossip has also been identified as a support in social attachment in large crowds which is used to gain certain power. This research analyzes the role of gossip and gossiping in reaching the power within a community and the instruments to reach such power. Hence, this qualitative research employs cultural study approach to get an in-depth and complete analysis based on cultural perspective. Besides, Social Dominance Theory is also applied to explore the usage of gossip as weapon to reach the top of power. The study shows that gossip is surely a sharp weapon that may attack either the object of gossip or others harmed by the formulation of gossip. Also, gossip can be activated as a weapon to reach power in a certain group. Furthermore, gossip can be effective if the person who spreads it has power in the society.Keywords: Gossip; Power; Javanese Society; Tilikالملخصتم تسليط الضوء على تعقيدات وخصائص النميمة والقيل والقال في أحدث فيلم قصير سريع الانتشار ،  Tilik (2018). كأداة اتصال ، من المهم ملاحظة أن النميمة المحددة يمكن أن تساعد في تقوية الروابط الاجتماعية للعديد من الناس وكذلك اكتساب القوة. تحلل هذه الدراسة دور النميمة والنميمة في اكتساب التأثير (القوة) في المجتمع وكذلك الأدوات المستخدمة لتحقيق تلك القوة. يسعى البحث النوعي بنهج ثقافي إلى الحصول على تحليل حاد ومتعمق للتصورات الثقافية. تُستخدم نظرية الهيمنة الاجتماعية أيضًا كأداة تحليلية لفهم استخدام القيل والقال كسلاح في اكتساب القوة. أظهرت النتائج أن القيل والقال يمكن أن يكون سلاحًا حادًا يمكنه مهاجمة الشيء الذي يُنثر عليه القيل والقال والأشخاص الآخرين الذين تضرروا من قصة القيل والقال. كما يظهر أن النميمة يمكن تفعيلها كسلاح لاكتساب السلطة في مجموعة معينة. علاوة على ذلك ، يمكن أن تكون النميمة فعالة إذا كان للشخص الذي ينشرها تأثير في المجتمع.الكلمات الرئيسية: ثرثرة؛ قوة؛ المجتمع الجاوي نظرةABSTRAKKompleksitas dan kekhasan gosip dan bergosip menjadi sorotan dalam film pendek viral terbaru, Tilik (2018). Sebagai alat komunikasi, penting untuk dicatat bahwa gosip teridentifikasi dapat membantu mempererat ikatan sosial banyak orang sekaligus meraih kekuasaan. Penelitian ini menganalisis peran gosip dan bergosip dalam mendapatkan pengaruh (kekuasaan) di dalam masyarakat serta instrument yang digunakan dalam meraih kekuasaan tersebut. Penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan budaya ini berupaya memperoleh analisis tajam dan mendalam dalam persepsi budaya. Teori dominasi sosial juga digunakan sebagai instrument analisis untuk memahami penggunaan gossip sebagai senjata dalam memperoleh kekuasaan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa gosip dapat menjadi senjata tajam yang dapat menyerang objek tergosip maupun orang lain yang dirugikan oleh cerita gosip tersebut. Selain itu juga menunjukkan bahwa gosip dapat diaktifkan sebagai senjata untuk meraih kekuasaan pada suatu kelompok tertentu. Lebih jauh, gosip bisa efektif jika orang yang menyebarkannya memiliki pengaruh di masyarakat.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of role-play techniques on students' English-speaking skills using narrative texts. The research method used is the experimental method. In collecting data using a questionnaire and a test of the students' English-speaking ability, The subjects of this study were grade IX students of SMPN 1 Tembilahan Hulu. The results of the analysis show that the results of the analysis show that the t-observed is higher than the t-table (14.24 > 2.75 or 14.24 > 2.45) at a significant level of 5% or 1% with degrees of freedom (df) = 30 This means that the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted. This also means that the role-play technique affects the English-speaking skills of students who study narrative texts in class IX at SMP Negeri 1 Tembilahan Hulu.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to assess students' ability to learn tree diagrams in the fifth semester of the English Study Program at the Islamic University of Indragiri. This type of research is descriptive and quantitative. The population of this research is the fifth-semester students of the English Education Study Program at the Islamic University of Indragiri. This study's population and samples totaled 13 people, drawn using a total sampling technique. The researcher used a test as an instrument to assess the student's ability to learn tree diagrams. For data analysis, researchers used statistical analysis to determine test results. The test results show that the fifth semester students of the English Study Program at the Islamic University of Indragiri have adequate ability in learning tree diagrams, with an average of 59.2. The researcher concludes that the fifth semester students of the English Study Program at the Islamic University of Indragiri should improve their ability to learn tree diagrams.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the Items Analysis of the Reading Test Assessment Questions in Class IX SMA Muhammadiyah. This research is quantitative descriptive. Subject in This research is class IX students, totaling 16 students. Data collection techniques using the test method. The data were analyzed using the Excel program. The results of this study indicate that; There are 20 multiple choice questions the results are as follows: (1) In terms category of the level of difficulty, 11 items are found in the Hard category, 6 items in the medium category, 3 items in the easy category, (2) In terms category the category Discrimination power, there are 0 items that have very poor discriminatory power, 11 items have poor discriminatory power, 8 items have satisfactory discriminatory power, 1 item has good distinguishing power, and 0 items have good power excellent differentiator (3) In terms of the effectiveness of the distractor who chooses option Atotal of 17 items were accepted and 3 items were rejected, who chose option B as many as 19 items were accepted and 1 item was rejected, who chose option C as many as 19 items were accepted and 1 item was rejected, who chose option D as many as 18 items were accepted and 2 items were rejected, and those who chose option E were 17 items accepted and 3 items were rejected.

Abstract

This research aimed to find out how to determine the skills of writing narrative texts through the inductive model of pictorial words in class XI of SMAN Bina Bhakti Sapat. The subjects of this study were 27 students of class XI IPA at SMAN Bina Bhakti Sapat in the academic year 2022–2023. In conducting this research, the type of research used was descriptive quantitative research. Quantitative data is taken from the written test. The results of the analysis show that there is an increase in students' ability to write narrative texts. The average test score of 70,59 demonstrates this. Regarding the students' test scores, the content aspect score was 21.29, the organization aspect was 15.22, the grammar aspect was 17.58, the mechanics aspect was 3.18, and the vocabulary aspect was 13.40. From the results of these data, it can be shown that the use of picture-word inductive models in writing narrative texts is effective. It can be concluded that students' ability to write narrative texts has increased by using picture-word inductive models. Writing narrative text has been improved by using the picture-word inductive models. Therefore, the students became more active and enthusiastic in learning English and were active in English discussions.

Abstract

This study aims to find the characteristics of a good English teacher. The aim is to find out students' perceptions of a good English teacher in terms of technical knowledge, pedagogic skills, interpersonal skills and personal qualities. This research includes descriptive research. Data was taken by observation, interviews and then analyzed qualitatively using a questionnaire. The findings of this study indicate that the characteristics of good teachers with respect to technical knowledge are mastering English, understanding teaching methods, being able to teach clearly, understanding students' abilities, and understanding teaching methods. The characteristics of a good English teacher with respect to interpersonal skills are teachers who are relaxed, humorous, cooperative, and able to win over students. The characteristics of a good teacher in terms of pedagogy are teachers who have teaching skills, use interesting media and a variety of techniques, are creative and innovative in designing material, understand students' needs, motivate students to be enthusiastic about learning English. The characteristics of a good English teacher with respect to personal qualities are a good figure, kind hearted and obedient to worship, discipline, patience, having good habits, attitudes and behavior, always maintaining quality and enthusiasm in teaching. The results of the in-depth open questionnaire show that students' perceptions of the characteristics of a good English teacher are very tedious and cognitive.
