Abstract

The internet has revolutionized how people shop and interact with businesses. This transformation has created significant opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), including family businesses, to enhance their business performance. Some strategic actions that business owners can take include adopting e-commerce to keep up with technological developments and fostering innovation to stay relevant in a rapidly changing environment. Moreover, innovation has been proven to improve business performance through developing goods and offerings that more effectively address consumer demands, increasing process efficiency, and opening new opportunities for business model development. The urgency of this research lies in the fact that family businesses—one of the most dominant business forms in Indonesia—face major challenges in adapting to these changes. The goal of this investigation is to address this shortfall by analyzing the impact of adopting e-commerce and innovation on improving business performance, as well as assessing the role of trust as a mediating variable. The study employs the Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) method based on Partial Least Squares (PLS) to analyze responses from 62 participants who met the research criteria. The research indicates a beneficial link between e-commerce, innovation, and overall business success. Additionally, the study identifies a positive influence of e-commerce on trust. On the other hand, the outcomes suggest no notable positive link between trust and business performance, and trust doesn't mediate the connection between e-commerce and business performance.

Abstract

Objective: This study examined how an integrated human-centered pedagogical framework shapes students’ learning experiences in design education, with particular attention paid to the interaction between affective engagement, reflective interpretation, and meaning-making. This research responds to the growing need for design education approaches that move beyond a primary focus on technical skills toward more holistic and interpretive learning processes. Method: A qualitative approach was employed, involving 60 students enrolled in the Commercial and Service Design course within the Visual Communication Design program at Universitas Ciputra. Learning activities were implemented through project-based tasks grounded in human-centered design principles. Data were collected from students’ reflective writing and documentation of their design processes throughout the course. Interpretive thematic analysis was conducted to identify patterns related to affective engagement, reflective interpretation, and meaning-making within students’ learning experiences. Results: The findings indicated that students experienced the learning process as an integrated interaction between emotional engagement, reflection, and contextual interpretation. Emotional responses, such as curiosity, uncertainty, and empathy, encouraged deeper involvement in the design process and stimulated reflective thinking. Through reflection, students articulated the reasoning behind their design decisions and connected contextual understanding with visual problem-solving. Students also demonstrated a shift in perspective, increasingly recognizing visual communication as a contextual and meaning-oriented practice rather than as a purely aesthetic activity. Novelty: Although this study does not propose a new pedagogical model, it provides empirical evidence explaining how affective engagement, reflection, and meaning-making interact within human-centered design learning environments to support experiential and interpretive learning in design education.

Abstract

Household waste is the largest contributor to national waste. Household waste is not managed properly causing environmental damage and a decrease in the health of family members. The problem of household waste requires special handling from internal parties (housewives) as family managers. The solution to this problem is in the form of entrepreneurship-based household waste management assistance given to housewives. This program was given to 10 partners (housewives) of Gelagaharum Village. The ABCD (Asset Base Community Development) method was used in online and offline mentoring for 6 months. The results of the mentoring program include: 1) housewives succeed in having knowledge of waste management and entrepreneurship, 2) there are organic (compost) and inorganic (recyclable) processed waste products, 3) obtaining new sources of income for housewives from the sale of processed waste products, 4) assistance successfully supports SDGs point 6 (clean water and proper sanitation) and SDGs point 4 (quality education).
