Abstract

This study explored the concept of Islamic revival proposed by KH. Ahmad Sanusi, a traditional Islamic scholar, in his Quranic exegesis Tamshiyyah al-Muslimīn in the early 20th century. Moreover, this research investigated the narratives of Islamic revival, and the decline of Muslims explained in the exegesis. The study employed a qualitative approach based on library research to achieve its objectives. Additionally, content analysis was utilized to enhance the depth of the research analysis.  The findings reveal that Sanusi's Islamic revival concept is rooted in the Qur’an, social life, and spirituality. Regarding the Qur’an, Sanusi emphasized the importance of understanding the Quran as a source of guidance for Muslims in all aspects of life. He criticized both traditional and modernist scholars for their misinterpretation of the Quran. Concerning social life, Sanusi highlighted the significance of mastering various fields of knowledge, promoting unity among Muslims, and engaging in deliberation based on equality. In terms of spirituality, Sanusi responded to the Sufi concepts and practices that some scholars considered deviant at that time. He argued that Sufism did not hinder Muslims from achieving progress in life. Sanusi's thoughts on Sufism were influenced by al-Ghazali's concepts, which were widely spread in the Indonesian Muslim community. This study contributes to the understanding of Islamic revival from the perspective of a traditional scholar who accommodates local culture and traditions without compromising the fundamental message of Islam.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the hadith about the prayer offered by the Prophet for the bride and groom during the wedding. This hadith is raised to criticize the tradition of prayers for brides such as to achieve Sakinah mawaddah wa Rahmah, immediately get offspring, and other prayer traditions that spread in the community. An in-depth study of the hadith from Abu Daud's narration number 1819 will answer at least two main questions in this research. What is the correct wording of the prayer based on the Sunnah of the Prophet? What is the meaning of the prayer, what is its essence, and what is the philosophy of the prayer? These two formulations will be answered with seven steps of hadith research consisting of tautsiq, takhrij, tashhih, tanasub, tarikh, tahlil, and tathbiq. Based on this methodology, the study concludes that this hadith emphasizes that what should be prayed for newlyweds is attaining blessings and goodness in their marriage through mutual cooperation, rather than just compatibility and offspring. The couple should strive together to continuously increase in goodness in all aspects of life. Marriage unites two different individuals, so the spouses should unite their love, aspirations, and efforts to achieve happiness and overcome challenges together.

Abstract

This study examines verse 233 of Surah Al-Baqarah from the Quran, which addresses the responsibilities of mothers in breastfeeding their children and the duties of fathers in providing for the nursing mothers. The verse emphasizes that mothers should breastfeed their children for two complete years if they wish to complete the nursing period. It also states that the father is responsible for providing food and clothing to the nursing mothers in a reasonable manner, according to it means. The verse further clarifies that no one should be burdened beyond their capacity and that neither the mother nor the father should be made to suffer because of their child. If both parents desire weaning by mutual consent and consultation, there is no blame upon them. Additionally, if parents wish to have their children nursed by a substitute, there is no blame upon them as long as they pay what is acceptable in a reasonable manner. The verse concludes by advising to be conscious of Allah and know that Allah is all-seeing of what you do. This study analyzes the verse from various perspectives, including its historical context, linguistic analysis, general interpretation, and application in different disciplines such as education, women's rights, and postmodernism. The findings highlight the Quran's emphasis on the rights and responsibilities of both parents, the importance of breastfeeding, and the need for mutual consultation and reasonable conduct in family matters.

Abstract

Abstract: This research spotlights YouTube’s utilization as a platform for intriguing Muslims and proselytizing Salafi and Nahdhatul 'Ulama's (NU) doctrines in the context of ideological contestation in Indonesia. This aim was motivated by the struggle for religious authority between NU and Salafis that has occurred in Indonesia since the beginning of the emergence of Salafis in the 1970s. The doctrine of Puritanism brought by Salafis is the key to the ideological battle with NU, which has the opposite doctrine. Thus, the contestation spread to the fight for the masses. One medium used as an object for spreading doctrine is YouTube. This use of YouTube is encouraged by their awareness that YouTube is an effective platform for proselytizing and arguing with each other. Therefore, this research explores the ideological contestation of the two groups from the aspect of the doctrine they spread and the ways they attract the masses by analyzing lecture videos from YouTube channels affiliated with each group. Based on the content and video quantity, this research argues that the massive method of being charged with Salafis is slowly becoming a strong challenge for the existence of NU. The method used is a theory by Heidi A. Campbell regarding online authority. Keywords: Ideological Contestation, Nahdhatul ‘Ulama, Religious Authority, Salafi, YouTube.

Abstract

The world of education is a forum where people are educated and formed in very basic ways so that they can live their lives better. Education units in Indonesia, especially at the junior high school level, are at the forefront of shaping the character of their students at school. However, the implementation of the learning process at school will not run smoothly as desired by parents and the school. When students are at school there will always be jokes with their friends, but those who speculate when joking are out of bounds. Character development is very important to change the characters of today's alpha generation which still have to be managed extraordinarily. The support from the government for the P5 Program is directly proportional to the objectives of the Pancaila principles, especially the 2nd principle. The existence of the P5 program aims to reduce cases of bullying in schools driven by the driving teachers at the school. This research method uses descriptive which defines what conditions or phenomena exist. The approach is qualitative. The results of this research are to prevent bullying among students. Bullying is a serious problem in the world of education because it can mislead students' parents.

Abstract

Surah Al-Baqarah verse 234 is one of the important verses that regulates ‘iddah—the waiting period for a woman whose husband has passed away, lasting four months and ten days. Normatively, this verse is often understood as an obligation for women to preserve their dignity and ensure the certainty of lineage. However, from a gender perspective, this verse carries a deeper meaning related to the position and protection of women within the Islamic social system. This study aims to analyze the meaning of justice and protection for women in the provision of ‘iddah as stated in QS. Al-Baqarah verse 234, using a thematic (maudhu‘i) and gender hermeneutic approach. The research employs a qualitative method based on a literature study and applies the TA9-based exegesis methodology (Tamhid, Tartib al-Ayat, Tarikh, Tanasub al-Ayat with other verses, Tanasub al-Ayat with Hadith, Tarjamah Mufradat, Tahlil Tafsir, Takwil al-Ayat, and Tathbiq). The findings show that the provision of ‘iddah is not a form of women’s subordination, but rather an expression of respect for their dignity and rights. From the Qur’anic perspective, this rule serves as a social and psychological transition period for women to gain inner peace, legal protection, and space to reorganize their lives after the loss of a spouse. Thus, QS. Al-Baqarah verse 234 reflects a balanced value of gender justice, where the Qur’an places women as legal subjects who have the right to make life choices after the completion of the ‘iddah period. These findings affirm that Islamic teachings, when understood contextually, support the principles of justice, well-being, and respect for women as beings equal before Allah.

Abstract

This literature review examines contemporary trends in Islamic feminist thought from 2020 to 2025, focusing on new feminist readings of the Qur'an, the reconstruction of gender exegesis in global Islamic feminist movements, thematic reinterpretations of women-related verses, and critical examinations of women's marginalization in Qur'anic translation and transmission. The study employs a qualitative systematic review of 12 Scopus-indexed articles, utilizing thematic analysis to identify recurring concepts, methodological patterns, and interpretive frameworks. The findings reveal a growing methodological sophistication in Islamic feminist scholarship, characterized by inclusive interpretive models that integrate socio-historical context, women's lived experiences, and contemporary gender issues. The study also highlights the efforts of Muslim feminists in various countries to defend women's rights, roles, and mobility through distinctive and effective movements that reinterpret Qur'anic verses traditionally understood through gender-biased lenses. Furthermore, the review underscores the importance of thematic reinterpretation of women-related verses, which challenges patriarchal bias in classical commentaries, foregrounds egalitarian principles, and exposes gender injustice in contemporary contexts. Finally, the study critically examines various forms of women's marginalization in the religious domain, including gender-biased interpretations, limited recognition of women's roles in Qur'anic transmission, and gender bias in Qur'anic translations. The article concludes that contemporary Islamic feminist discourse is marked by increasing global interconnectedness and a shift toward interpretations that emphasize ethical equality and gender justice as intrinsic to the Qur'anic worldview, while also highlighting the need for more inclusive spaces for women in the production and transmission of religious knowledge.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relevance of the Prophet's hadith from the narration of Ahmad (164H-241H) number 14830 regarding the aspects of a person's happiness, which consist of righteous neighbors, comfortable transportation, and a spacious house in the context of housing development in the modern era. The study was conducted using a qualitative approach based on hadith literature analysis and sustainable development theory. The results of the study show that this hadith has a value that is very relevant to contemporary human needs. First, the concept of spacious house is understood as a decent, healthy dwelling that supports family welfare. Second, a righteous neighbor emphasizes the importance of social harmony in the housing environment, which is a major factor in creating peace of mind. Third, comfortable vehicle can be interpreted as a means of transportation that is safe, efficient, and environmentally friendly, which supports the daily activities of housing residents. This study concludes that the hadith provides an ethical and philosophical framework that is in line with the concept of modern development, particularly in creating a holistic residential environment: paying attention to physical aspects, social aspects, and mobility. Theoretically, this study enriches the study of the integration of hadith with sustainable development. Practically, the results of this study can be used as a reference for the government, developers, and the community in designing and building residential environments that are not only economically oriented but also focused on physical and spiritual well-being.

Abstract

This study analyzes a hadith of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ narrated by Abu Hurairah, which discusses two women with contrasting levels of ritual devotion and social behavior. The hadith serves as a crucial foundation for understanding the interrelation between ritual worship and social ethics, particularly in the context of neighborly rights (ḥuqūq al-jār) and the ethical conduct of women in Islamic society. Employing an interdisciplinary approach that integrates matn criticism, hadith commentary (sharḥ), and social-gender analysis based on the TA11 framework (comprising Tamhid, Tautsiq, Takhrij, Tanasub with the Qur’an and other hadiths, Tarikh, Tarjamah Mufradat, Tahlil Sharḥ, Ta’wil, and Tathbiq), this research reveals that piety in Islam is not solely measured by the quantity of ritual acts, but more importantly by the quality of ethical behavior in social life. The hadith affirms that a woman who was diligent in worship yet harmed her neighbors is destined for Hell, whereas another woman with fewer ritual practices but who maintained good social relations is promised Paradise. These findings emphasize the importance of a prophetic model of social piety grounded in empathy, social responsibility, and ethical communication. The study contributes significantly to rethinking the construct of Muslim women's piety in contemporary society.
