Abstract

This research aims to examine the meaning of Kaili ethnic cultural symbols to strengthen the values of Islamic education among the Kaili ethnic community. This research was conducted using a qualitative approach. The data collection technique in this research uses observation, interviews and documentation methods. Data analysis in this research uses single data analysis (individual case analysis), with the data analysis model from Miles and Huberman, through three paths of activities that occur simultaneously. This research found that there are sambulugana symbols and sintuvu symbols in organizing their daily life systems. These symbols are interpreted deeply because they have fundamental values. The sambulugana symbol teaches the concept of gratitude and resignation to God Almighty. Meanwhile, the sintuvu concept teaches the values of ukhuwah or cooperation between people. The sintuvu symbol reminds the Kaili ethnic community of how they live in interdependence with one another. The sintuvu symbol also teaches us not to create distance between relatives. So, as much as possible, maintain kinship relations even in buying and selling (exchanging goods).

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the internalisation of religious moderation at Al-Istiqamah Modern Islamic Boarding School through Islamic classical texts (kitab kuning) instruction amid religious polarisation and contemporary educational demands. The research addresses a gap in previous studies by presenting the integration of traditional and modern methods, a tiered curriculum, and social interaction within the pesantren as contributing factors in shaping moderate attitudes, including freedom in choosing a mazhab, tolerance, and openness. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study method. This study collected data through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and analysed them through data reduction, data presentation, and verification stages. The findings reveal that kitab kuning learning in this institution is conducted formally in the classroom by modifying traditional methods into modern approaches based on the Tarbiyatul Muallimin al-Islamiyah curriculum. The materials include classical kitab and miniature kitab kuning covering fiqh, usul fiqh, hadith, tafsir, Arabic language, and other Islamic sciences. This process significantly contributes to fostering students' moderate attitudes, as reflected in their freedom to choose a school of thought, tolerance toward differing opinions, decisiveness in religious choices, and openness to interacting with various Islamic organisations. The study offers originality by demonstrating that moderation is shaped not only through curricular content but also through social interaction, teacher role modelling, and students’ autonomy in choosing a school of thought. It also opens pathways for future research, including comparative studies among Islamic boarding schools or investigations into the sustainability of moderation values among alums.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to analyze, interpret, identify, and describe the values of Islamic education from a multicultural perspective as embedded in the cultural practices of the Bugis community. Employing a qualitative method with a combined autoethnographic and realist ethnographic approach, the research utilized in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis as the primary data collection techniques. Data were examined through domain, taxonomic, and componential analyses, culminating in the formulation of key cultural values. The findings reveal seven core values within Bugis culture that can be adapted into a multicultural Islamic educational framework: (1) mutual respect and reverence, (2) compassion, (3) constructive admonition, (4) cooperation, (5) mutual protection, (6) recognition of human rights, and (7) cleanliness. The implications of this study suggest that these culturally rooted values can contribute significantly to the development of multicultural Islamic education in Indonesia. this research contributes to the preservation and academic recognition of Bugis cultural heritage by positioning it as a dynamic source of ethical and educational values, thereby bridging local culture with national and global discourses on multicultural and Islamic education.

Abstract

Global and national environmental crises have demanded a strategic role of education in fostering sustainability awareness among younger generations, particularly Generation Z in Indonesia. The formal education curriculum has not fully succeeded in cultivating critical and sustainable ecological awareness, as it has remained predominantly oriented toward cognitive mastery and fragmented content delivery. This study aimed to comprehensively analyze the role of ecopedagogy-based curriculum innovation in promoting environmental sustainability awareness among Indonesian Generation Z. The research employed a qualitative descriptive approach using a Systematic Literature Review design of scholarly articles and academic publications published between 2018 and 2025 and indexed in the Scopus, Google Scholar, and SINTA databases. Data were analyzed through thematic analysis to synthesize patterns, trends, and key findings across studies. The findings indicated that an ecopedagogy-based curriculum effectively enhanced sustainability awareness through the integration of ecological values, critical-reflective pedagogy, and action-oriented as well as digitally contextualized learning aligned with the characteristics of Generation Z. This study contributed theoretically by strengthening the conceptual framework of ecopedagogy in curriculum innovation and offered practical implications for policy development and sustainable education practices in Indonesia.

Abstract

This research examines the implementation of a character education program based on moderation at MI Muhammadiyah Al-Haq Palu, where elementary students demonstrate measurable understanding of tolerance, balance, justice, and anti-violence values. The study investigates how curriculum design and multi-method teaching strategies integrate moderation values and identifies the determinants of student character development. Employing a qualitative instrumental case study design within a constructivist paradigm, data were collected through semi-structured interviews, Classroom observations, and document analysis, and analyzed using Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña's interactive thematic coding model, with triangulation to ensure trustworthiness. Six thematic factors emerged inductively from the data: teacher quality and commitment, visionary leadership, coherent curriculum design, family partnerships, favorable post-conflict local context, and institutional backing from Muhammadiyah. The multi-method pedagogical approach, combining interactive dialogic teaching, habituation practices, and inclusive environment design, addresses cognitive, behavioral, affective, and social dimensions simultaneously, supporting the progressive internalization of moderation values. These findings offer contextual evidence relevant to SDG 4.7 on education for global citizenship and appreciation of cultural diversity, and to SDG 16 on peaceful and inclusive societies through its focus on anti-extremism and coexistence education. As a single-site qualitative case study, findings are context-specific and intended to inform rather than prescribe broader practice.
