Abstract

Background: Despite increased global attention to early childhood development, children under 5 in low- and middle-income countries face heightened risks of poor developmental outcomes. In Indonesia, where innovative approaches to nurturing care are needed, video-based interventions show promise.Purpose: This study aimed to elevate maternal competence in parenting and contribute to the holistic development of children aged 0-3 years through video-based nurturing care education.Method: Non-equivalent quasi-experimental design with pre-post-test control groups was employed. This study used a consecutive sampling technique on 89 mothers with children 0-3 years old (intervention group = 40 and control group = 49). The intervention group was given health education using videos via a WhatsApp link, and the control group was given leaflets directly. Data was collected from May to August 2022, four weeks before the intervention (pre-test) and two weeks after the video and leaflets were given (post-test). The instrument was modified from the Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice (KAP) questionnaire developed by UNICEF. The effect of education was analyzed using Wilcoxon and independent t-test.Results: The group that received the intervention showed a notable and positive influence on their knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP levels) in contrast to the control group. This suggests the video-based intervention effectively enhanced participants' understanding, attitudes, and caregiving practices. Conclusion: The research emphasizes the positive outcomes of video-based nurturing care intervention for mothers with children aged 0-3 years. The intervention significantly improved maternal attitudes toward parenting, caregiving behaviors, and overall child development. These results emphasize the significance of employing video interventions to encourage effective nurturing care practices.

Abstract

Background: The World Health Organization (WHO) encourages the integration of traditional medicine (TM) into healthcare services, recognizing its cultural importance in countries like Indonesia. However, this integration needs improvement to ensure quality and accessibility. Previous research has primarily focused on policy implementation or health outcomes with limited exploration of the acceptability of TM clinics in Primary Health Centers (PHCs) from the perspectives of stakeholders using the Theoretical Framework of Acceptability (TFA). Operational and ethical challenges of this integration remain underexplored.Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the acceptability of traditional medicine clinics in PHC settings using the TFA, focusing on the perspectives of healthcare workers, traditional medicine practitioners, and patients. Methods: An exploratory qualitative study was conducted in five PHCs in Boyolali, Indonesia, with 25 participants, including healthcare workers, traditional medicine practitioners, and patients. Participants were purposely selected based on the following inclusion criteria: (1) healthcare workers providing services in traditional medicine clinics at PHCs, (2) traditional medicine practitioners operating within the clinic area, and (3) patients who had used the clinic’s services at least once. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed using a thematic approach. Results: Thematic analysis identified four key themes: (1) Perceived Benefits and Trust in TM Clinics, with participants reporting high satisfaction and trust in the services, (2) Readiness and Competency of Healthcare Workers, emphasizing confidence, ongoing training, and collaboration with traditional medicine practitioners, (3) Barriers to Acceptability and Implementation, including heavy workloads, limited resources, and a lack of dedicated personnel, and (4) Alignment with Professional and Cultural Values, focusing on the importance of cultural integration and ethical considerations for the sustainability of TM clinics. Conclusion: Traditional medicine clinics in PHCs are generally well accepted, but their sustainability depends on addressing resource constraints and enhancing staff training. Strategic investment and policy support are crucial for overcoming operational and ethical challenges and ensuring the successful integration of public health services.

Abstract

Background: The response phase is crucial in a disaster, nurses at community health center play a strategic role in disaster response phase preparedness; however, the factors that influence the level of nurse preparedness in the disaster response phase have not been widely studied. Purpose: To identify factors contributing to nurse preparedness during the disaster response phase. Method: A quantitative multicenter study using a cross-sectional design was conducted involving nurses from 27 primary healthcare centers located in disaster-prone regions. Convenience sampling was used to recruit 225 nurses, with data collection taking place between February and March 2023. Instruments included a demographic questionnaire and the Emergency Preparedness Information Questionnaire (EPIQ). Data were analyzed using multivariate logistic regression. Results: A total of 50.9% of nurses had low preparedness. Factors associated with preparedness in the response phase include education level (p=0.002), years of service (p=0.049), training (p=0.001), and disaster experience of serving in disaster (p=0.001). The logistic regression analysis identified the dominant factors in increasing preparedness, which include disaster training (20.6%), professional education level (5.16%), 11-20 years of service (1.39%), male gender (1.34%), and experience of serving in disaster (1.16%). Nurses who have received disaster training have higher preparedness compared to those with BTCLS and BLS training. This predictor is identified to improve response phase preparedness. Nurses can be given disaster training to improve preparedness. Conclusion: The average level of nurse preparedness was categorized as low. The most dominant factor influencing nurse preparedness in the natural disaster response phase was disaster training.

Abstract

Background: The quality of sleep is a crucial determinant of patients’ life quality. Those with airborne diseases are treated in isolation rooms where environmental factors significantly impact their sleep quality. Disturbances in sleep can lead to complaints about the non-conducive environment, thus affecting the rest and recovery of patients. Objective: To assess the sleep quality of patients with airborne diseases in isolation rooms. Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study sampled 78 patients in airborne isolation rooms of a hospital in Yogyakarta from November 2023 to January 2024. Inclusion criteria included patients which older than 19 years old, conscious, and able to communicate, with a hospital stay of 2-6 days. Exclusion criteria were unstable general conditions, use of sleep medications, and mental disorders. Sleep quality was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis tests. Results: Most of patients (79,5%) reported poor sleep quality. Poor sleep was most prevalent among those aged 46-65 years (55,1%), males (43,6%), patients diagnosed with tuberculosis (50%), and those with metabolic endocrine disorders (20,5%). Pain (23,1%) and shortness of breath (21,8%) were most common complaints. The PSQI dimensions showed that most patients struggled with sleep duration. Gender was the only significant factor affecting sleep quality (p-value 0,021), with males experiencing poorer sleep quality. Conclusion: In a Yogyakarta hospital, 79,5% of patients with airborne diseases in isolation rooms have poor sleep quality. This study provides baseline data for developing strategies to address sleep disturbances in isolation settings.INTISARI Latar Belakang: Kualitas tidur merupakan faktor penting dalam menentukan kualitas hidup pasien. Abstract

Background: Osteoarthritis can be defined as a disorder of movable joints characterized by deterioration of articular cartilage; osteophyte formation and bone remodeling; changes in periarticular tissues; and a low-grade, nonpurulent inflammation of variable degree. Acupressure is a traditional non-pharmacological intervention that promotes blood circulation and muscle activity. Purpose: This review aimed to investigate the efficacy of acupressure as a complementary therapy method for the pain of osteoarthritis. Methods: Four electronic databases were searched from PubMed, ProQuest, Scopus, and The Cochrane Library use PICO strategy. In studies comparing acupressure with sham acupuncture, no intervention, or conventional intervention was eligible for inclusion. Article study is published on 2012-2022, using English and design RCT and Quasi-experiment. Prisma analysis was used in selection process. The risk of bias in the included studies was assessed using the Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal Tools for Quasi-Experimental Studies and Randomized Controlled Trials. Results: There were 12 reports selected for review with the homogeny of knee Osteoarthritis. Outcomes were either objectively- or subjectively assessed improvements in specific pain parameters and safety for clinical use. Results showed more clinical trials with proper methodology are needed to confirm the effectiveness of acupressure for the pain of Osteoarthritis. The results of the review showed a positive effect in reducing pain level with acupressure intervention as either the main or complementary therapy. Conclusion: This systematic review shows that acupressure as a single or complementary intervention provides significant benefits in the management of Osteoarthritis. Further trials with a more rigorous design are needed to further validate and address the limitations of the current evidence.
