Abstract

This study discusses the epistemology of hadith from the Shi'a perspective, which is a specific approach used by Shi'a scholars in understanding and assessing the quality of hadith. The Shi'a hadith epistemology takes into account the historical context and the groups involved in the transmission of hadith and pays special attention to the authority of the Imams of the ahl al-bayt in interpreting the hadith teachings. This study aims to conduct an in-depth exploration of the epistemology of hadith from the Shi'a perspective. This approach involves a review of relevant literature and research methodologies. It will also discuss the challenges and criticisms faced by the Shi'a perspective in hadith epistemology. The research method used is a comprehensive analysis of relevant literature and sources. The results of this study are expected to provide a better understanding of how the Shi'a view and apply hadith in the context of their lives and traditions. In addition, this research is also expected to provide new contributions and insights in the development of hadith science in general.

Abstract

Empiricism is a branch of Western epistemology that is based on experience and discourages reason. According to empiricism, the source of knowledge is experience or empirical. Reason is not a source of knowledge; instead, reason is tasked with processing knowledge gained from experience. The aim of this research is to find out hadiths about the life of the Prophet which can constitute epistemology as science. This research uses a descriptive method with a literature review. Thus, this research concludes that the application of Islamic epistemology based on the life of the Prophet is proven in the Muslim hadith no. index 2336 about the wrong story of the Prophet to date palm farmers. This hadith is a tribute to the Prophet because of his expertise and ability in the professional field. In other words, the Prophet's hadith shows that the only people who understand agricultural issues better are farmers. Judging from the asbab al-wurud hadith, the Prophet was born and raised on the barren Arabian Peninsula. Therefore, the Prophet only expressed his opinion without having experience in farming dates. From this experience of the Prophet's erroneous opinions, lessons can be made for farmers, as those who understand more about the world of Islamic boarding schools are the kyai and Islamic boarding school administrators.

Abstract

General Background: Islamic intellectual history in the Nusantara has developed through transregional scholarly networks linking local communities with global centers of learning, especially the Haramain. Specific Background: Shaykh Yasin Al-Fadani, a Minangkabau-born scholar based in Mecca and known as Musnid ad-Dunya, held a central role in hadith transmission and Islamic astronomy, connecting the Haramain and the Nusantara through his works and students. Knowledge Gap: While prior studies address his hadith and astronomical contributions, limited analysis applies Karl Mannheim’s sociology of knowledge to explain his role in Nusantara intellectual dynamics. Aims: This study investigates how his social position, intellectual networks, and writings sustained Islamic scholarly continuity between the two regions. Results: Through qualitative case study and content analysis, the findings show that he preserved sanad authority, established extensive teacher–student networks, and authored key works such as Al-Fawaid Al-Janiyyah and Al-Mukhtasar Al-Muhazzab, which remain central in pesantren education and responsive to colonial and modern contexts. Novelty: By employing Mannheim’s framework, this research situates his scholarship within its socio-historical setting and transregional interactions. Implications: The study clarifies Nusantara–Haramain scholarly connectivity and reaffirms the ongoing relevance of sanad-based learning in contemporary Islamic education. Highlights: A transregional teacher–student lineage linked Mecca with pesantren communities across Java, Sumatra, and Kalimantan. Sanad-centered scholarship functioned as a mechanism for preserving religious authority during colonial and modern transitions. Major writings on hadith and Islamic astronomy addressed both doctrinal continuity and practical communal needs. Abstract

The escalation of the climate crisis demands a transformation towards sustainable consumption patterns, but the gap between cognitive awareness and actual environmentally friendly practices remains a major challenge. This article examines the role of social media in bridging this gap through a case study of the Instagram account @safianatural. By combining Vandana Shiva’s ecofeminist perspective with Seyyed Hossein Nasr’s ecotheology, this study analyzes how digital narratives shape the ecological awareness of Muslim consumers. Findings show that @safianatural does not merely market beauty products, but transforms skincare practices into a framework of ecological piety. Through the convergence of discourse on women’s empowerment as guardians of nature’s sustainability and theological views on nature as theophany, consumption is reframed as a spiritual practice that restores harmony between God, humans, and the environment. Thus, social media serves as an effective theological-political arena for instilling a new consumer ethic, in which purchasing environmentally friendly products is interpreted as a manifestation of humanity’s responsibility as khalīfah on earth in the face of environmental degradation.

Abstract

The digitization of Indonesia’s Islamic religious sphere has created a complex competition for authority. The Indonesian Congress of Women Ulama (KUPI) aims to reshape religious authority by producing and sharing gender-responsive fatwas through digital platforms. This study looks at KUPI’s digital methods for spreading these fatwas and how these methods influence a more inclusive Islamic conversation. Using a qualitative, case-study approach within KUPI’s digital ecosystem, particularly KUPIPedia and its social media channels, data was collected through systematic content analysis of digital outputs from 2017 to 2025. The analytical framework combines Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) and Latour’s Actor-Network Theory (ANT) to explore how claims of authority are created through discourse and shaped by networks of people and non-human elements. The findings show that KUPI builds a model of shared and participatory authority through the ideas of ma’ruf, mubadalah, and true justice, supported by a network of 15 partner institutions. However, digitalization does not lead to a straightforward growth of influence. Social media algorithms often favor conservative content, and KUPI’s reach mainly focuses on the educated urban audience. Theoretically, this study reveals that digital religious authority is subject to debate and relational, rather than merely a product of technological democratization and methodologically offers a replicable CDA-ANT framework for analyzing the production of fatwas in the digital age.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to explore the strategic role of Tengger women in early conflict detection within religious dynamics in Tosari District, Pasuruan, and to examine how their practices can be understood through the framework of inclusive Islamic peace education. Design/methodology/approach: This research employs a qualitative approach with Miles and Huberman’s interactive analysis model. Data were collected through three months of participatory observation, in-depth interviews with 35 key informants, and focus group discussions (FGDs) with local women's forums, traditional leaders, and religious figures. Research limitations/implications: The study is limited to the Tengger community in Tosari District, East Java. However, the findings provide valuable insights into the development of culturally sensitive and gender-responsive peace education models for multicultural societies and offer practical implications for inclusive Islamic education. Findings: The results reveal how Tengger women activate local wisdom values such as sayan (mutual cooperation) and setuhu (commitment to harmony) as social vigilance mechanisms. Their unique position in traditional social structures enables them to develop effective early warning systems through informal networks and community activities. The study further constructs a critical dialogue between these indigenous practices and Islamic educational principles such as ta'awun (cooperation), ukhuwah (brotherhood), and rahmatan lil 'alamin (mercy to all creation). Originality/value: This research contributes to peace education literature by documenting an organic, community-based model of peace education developed and practiced by indigenous women. It offers a transformative framework for Islamic peace education that integrates cultural wisdom, gender responsiveness, and religious values, providing an alternative model for educational institutions in multicultural contexts
