Abstract

In each literary work, the author through the narrator conveys his ideas or criticisms of an issue that is the inspiration of his writing. A novel in French, Moha le Fou Moha le Sage (MFMS) by Tahar ben Jelloun, illustrates the delivery of certain ideas and criticisms with the social background of the newly independent Maghreb state from French colonization. This research was made to describe the conditions that were criticized and the way the narrator expressed his criticism. The sociology of literature approach is used, to study the object of the novel MFMS research. Data was collected by reading and recording techniques, and analyzed using descriptive analytic techniques. The results show that the criticized conditions in this novel relate to a very sharp dichotomy in social configuration, between strong and weak, male and female, employer and slave, white and black, educated and not. The narrator, Moha, speaks as himself to convey the plight of the weak that are unable or prevented from speaking up. He gives advice, reprimands, reminds, threatens, and persuades him to be heard. But all his efforts were in vain because people were generally too busy looking for money and were reluctant to stop listening to other people's complaints.

Abstract

Cultural shock is a deep and negative response to depression, frustration and disorientation experienced by people who live in a new cultural environment. These psychological and cultural symptoms are experienced by child figures in the novel Une Année chez les Français by Fouad Laroui. Research on cultural shock and identity struggles as a result is carried out by qualitative descriptive methods. Data in the form of relevant citations are collected by referring to the note-taking technique and analyzed to draw conclusions. The results of this study indicate that there are four phases of cultural shock that the main character traverses are: the honeymoon phase, the prison phase, the adaptation phase, and the adjustment phase. The factors that influence the occurrence of cultural shock in these figures are: intrapersonal factors, cultural variations, and socio-political manifestations. The three aspects of the cultural shock that Mehdi experienced were: loss of familiar signs, identity crises, and the breakdown of interpersonal communication that led to frustration and anxiety due to language barriers. While the symptoms of the cultural shock that he experienced were: sadness, loneliness, and misery; behavioral changes, stress or depression, identifying with old cultures or idealizing old regions; loss of identity; not confident; feel deprived, and miss the family.

Abstract

RÉSUMÉ. Le travail que nous allons présenter est une étude descriptive au sujet de l’utilisation des documents authentiques dans l’enseignement/apprentissage en ligne du Français Langue Étrangère (FLE) aux lycées de la région Java-Ouest en Indonésie, notamment durant la pandémie de la Covid-19. La recherche a été menée moyennant un questionnaire conçu à cette fin, composé à la fois de questions ouvertes et fermées. L’enquête a été construite et distribuée à plusieurs professeurs respectifs étant aussi les participants à l’atelier de formation qui a été proposé en fin de l’année 2020 par l’Association des Professeurs de Français d’Indonésie (APFI). Notre recherche a eu comme finalité de déterminer si les documents authentiques sont utilisés dans l’e-learning du FLE pendant cette crise sanitaire par nos professeurs–répondants, d’exposer leurs difficultés et enfin de présenter leurs besoins par rapport à l’exploitation des documents en question.Mots-clés : documents authentiques, formation en ligne, lycées, ressources, supportsABSTRACT. The work we will present is a descriptive study on the use of authentic documents in online learning of French as a Foreign Language (FLE) used by secondary schools in the West Java region of Indonesia, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. This research was conducted using a questionnaire designed to answer open and closed questions.  The survey was distributed to several teachers who were also participants in a training workshop held at the end of 2020 by the Indonesian French Teachers Association (APFI).  Our research aims to find out whether authentic documents are used in FLE e-learning during this health crisis by teachers – respondents, to express their difficulties and finally to present their needs related to the exploitation of the documents.Keywords: authentic documents, e-learning, high schools, resources, materials

Abstract

Psychologically, humans have a tendency to love reality and fiction because of life in between. With its unlimited imagination, humans can choose the preferred model of reality or fiction. If he chooses to be a good observer, a good and patient guesser in waiting for answers to important questions, the detective story can be an interesting reading alternative. In general, the detective story developed along with the rapid urbanization as a result of the industrial revolution. Life in big cities becomes insecure because of the increasing population density, unemployment, poverty and crime. To be able to reduce the saturation and tension experienced everyday, the public also entertain themselves with reading. Apparently people love reading about mysterious or even frightening events, because it always ends with a rational explanation of the various puzzles that cling to the reading. The crime-themed book makes readers familiar with the presence of criminals and law enforcers who are hunting him. Comics also called 'image literature', can also be a medium of telling of crimes favored by various circles. In this paper, we will discuss the phenomenon of the existence of detective comics in France and Japan with cultural comparative methods and studied with relevant theories. The results showed that because they came from different cultural backgrounds and published times, several things were found that showed differences between French and Japanese detective comics, including those related to characterization, public, story and cultural backgrounds, and comic formats. While the things that are common among them are the profession of detective figures who work more independently and prominently, and the presence of local police who are supportive of the character's movements, despite the fact that they often arrive late at the scene.

Abstract

Kepemimpinan transformasional berperan penting dalam keberhasilan implementasi kebijakan di tingkat pemerintah daerah. Studi kasus ini menganalisis pengaruh gaya kepemimpinan daerah terhadap pembuatan dan implementasi kebijakan publik. Penelitian menunjukan bahwa kepemimpinan transformasional, yang ditandai dengan visi jelas, kemampuan menginspirasi, dan stimulasi intelektual, secara signifikan meningkatkan efektivitas kebijakan. Temuan ini menekankan pentingnya pemimpin tranformasional dalam mendorong inovasi, partisipasi masyarakat, dan pencapaian tujuan pembangunan daerah

Abstract

In the context of Eastern culture, society views single women and men unequally. The demand for immediate marriage in women is greater than that of men. This research was conducted to reveal the resilience of single women represented by the protagonist of the novel Ganjil-Genap (2020) by Almira Bastari. The method used in this research is descriptive-qualitative. Data in the form of words, phrases, and sentences were collected using the listening technique and notes through closed reading. The data are then classified, interpreted, and then analyzed using feminist literary criticism. The theoretical foundation in this research comes from the ideas of Hurlock and Schoon. The results showed that (1) The institution of marriage is still coveted by independent, well-established, and logical female figures because singleness is a social category that is considered problematic. (2) In exercising resilience, women go through the overcoming, steering through, bouncing back, and reaching out stages. (3) The achievement that the female character produces from resilience is turning her position from object to subject.

Abstract

Abstrak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguraikan permasalahan tentang perkawinan dan kelas sosial yang ditampilkan dalam novel metropop Melbourne (Wedding) Marathon karya Almira Bastari. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif-kualitatif. Data berupa kata, frasa, dan kalimat dikumpulkan dengan teknik simak-catat. Data kemudian diklasifikasi sesuai dengan permasalahan penelitian, dan dikaji dengan pendekatan struktural dan kajian sastra feminis. Landasan teoretis yang digunakan di antaranya adalah dari Humm, Foucault, dan Priyatna. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sesuai dengan kriteria metropop, seluruh elemen naratif dalam novel yang dikaji mendukung ide tentang percintaan dan perkawinan dengan latar urban. Sekalipun berada dalam situasi modern dan berkarakter mandiri, perkawinan masih didambakan oleh perempuan dengan harapan menjadi lembaga yang mengusung kesetaraan gender. Isu kelas menjadi hambatan dalam relasi percintaan namun dapat diatasi berkat penolakan perempuan atas wacana penguasaan.Kata Kunci: perkawinan, metropop, kelas sosial, kajian sastra feminis

Abstract

Penelitian ini membahas resepsi pembaca aktif terhadap kisah Barbe Bleue ‘Si Janggut Biru’ karya Charles Perrault, sastrawan dari abad XVII. Pembaca aktif yang dimaksud adalah Amélie Nothomb dan Tahar ben Jelloun, dua pengarang frankofon yang memberi tanggapan terhadap kisah dari abad Pertengahan itu dengan menciptakan teks Barbe Bleue dalam versi masing-masing. Penelitian ini berfokus pada perbandingan elemen-elemen narasi di antara teks-teks tersebut seperti plot, penokohan dan latar. Teori resepsi diakronik-intertekstual dengan metode deskriptif kualitatif digunakan untuk penelitian ini. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa sebagai pembaca aktif dari abad XXI, Amélie Nothomb dan Tahar ben Jelloun meresepsi kisah Barbe Bleue dengan cara menciptakan karya baru namun tidak menghilangkan sekuen-sekuen utama dari cerita aslinya. Perubahan terjadi pada genre, dari dongeng menjadi novel dan cerita pendek, bobot penokohan yang berimbang di antara tokoh laki-laki dan perempuan, serta setting latar waktu-tempat-sosial-budaya. Hal ini tidak dapat dilepaskan dari adanya perubahan zaman, semangat zaman, serta perubahan cakrawala harapan pembaca.This study discusses the reception of active readers of the story of Barbe Bleue by Charles Perrault, a writer from the seventeenth century. The active readers in question are Amélie Nothomb and Tahar ben Jelloun, two frankophone authors who responded to the story of the Middle Ages by creating the Barbe Bleue text in their respective versions. This study focuses on the comparison of narrative elements between the texts such as plot, characterization and setting. Diachronic-intertextual reception theory with qualitative descriptive method was used for this study. It can be concluded that as active readers of the XXI century, Amélie Nothomb and Tahar ben Jelloun perceive the story of Barbe Bleue by creating new works but not eliminating the main sequences of the original story. Changes occur in genres, from fairy tales to novels and short stories, the weight of balanced characterization between male and female characters, and the setting of time-place-social-cultural settings. This cannot be separated from the changing times, the spirit of the times, and changes in the horizon of readers’ expectations.Keywords: reception of literary, actif reader, diachronic-intertextual, Barbe Bleue

Abstract

            (Title: Violence in Toxic Friendship Between Women in Amélie Nothomb's "Antéchrista" Novel). Violence is often identified with masculine expressions inherent in men. However, in reality, it is not gender-exclusive because women are also enabled to do so, including against those closest to them such as friends, as revealed in the novel Antéchrista by Amélie Nothomb, a Belgian francophone writer. This study aims to examine how the theme of violence in the 'toxic friendship' between women is displayed in the novel. The method used is descriptive qualitative with a feminist literary criticism approach. The data were collected from the novel using the note-taking technique and analyzed using the content analysis technique. The data consisting of words, phrases, and sentences in French were then translated by the researchers to be classified, interpreted, and studied. The result of the research shows that the novel Antéchrista presents women as victims who are also perpetrators of violence through oppression against each other, motivated by jealousy and intrasexual competition. The form of violence is in the form of psychological and verbal which is manifested in the form of intimidation, humiliation, and ostracism. Keywords: opression, toxic friendship, resistensi, women, feminist literature criticism

Bromance Representation and Masculinity in Novel Untuk Dia Yang Terlambat Gue Temukan Written By Esti Kinasih ABSTRAKBromance merupakan hubungan dekat dan relatif intim di antara dua laki-laki atau lebih, tanpa didasari oleh ketertarikan seksual. Penelitian ini membahas bromance dan maskulinitas yang direpresentasikan di dalam novel bergenre teen lit Untuk Dia yang Terlambat Gue Temukan (2020) karya Esti Kinasih. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif-kualitatif dengan pendekatan gender. Data berupa kata, frasa, dan kalimat dikumpulkan dengan teknik simak catat setelah dilakukan pembacaan tertutup. Data kemudian diklasifikasi, diinterpretasi, dan dikaji dengan teknik analisis isi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa relasi bromance dibangun di antara para tokoh laki-laki dengan latar sekolah dan konteks permasalahan remaja. Alasan yang mendasari bromance adalah kesamaan kepentingan dan pemahaman sebagai sesama laki-laki. Manifestasi bromance ditunjukkan melalui sikap mendengarkan, memahami, membantu, dan melindungi. Relasi bromance kuat karena laki-laki bekerja sama untuk tidak tampil sebagai pihak yang lemah dan emosional (terutama) di hadapan perempuan. Perempuan sendiri ditampilkan pasif, lemah, dan patuh menghadapi laki-laki dan persekutuan mereka di dalam bromance.Kata kunci: bromance, Esti Kinasih, maskulinitas, teen litABSTRACTBromance is a close and relatively intimate relationship between two or more men, without being based on sexual attraction. This research is aimed at discussing the bromance and masculinity which is represented in the teen literature genre in novel Untuk Dia yang Terlambat Gue Temukan (2020) written by Esti Kinasih. This research uses descriptive-qualitative method with a gender approach. Data in the form of words, phrases, and sentences were collected using a note-taking technique after a closed reading. The data are then classified, interpreted, and reviewed using content analysis techniques. The results of this study indicate that Bromance relationships are built between male figures with school backgrounds and the context of adolescent problems. The reason that underlies bromance is the same interests and understanding as fellow men. Bromance is manifested in an attitude of listening, understanding, helping, and protecting. Bromance relationships are strong because men work together to avoid appearing as weak and emotional (especially) in front of women. Women themselves are shown to be passive, weak, and obedient to men and their fellowship in bromance.Keyword: Bromance,Esti Kinasih, masculinity, teen literature
