Abstract

Background: The procedure for examining brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in clinical dementia at the Radiology Installation of RSUP dr. Sardjito Yogyakarta used T2W, 3D FLAIR, 3D FFE ADNI, diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) and susceptibility weighted imaging (SWI) sequences.  The selection of this sequence was in accordance with the existing references, but was added with the SWI sequence. This study aims to determine the MRI brain examination in clinical dementia and to find out the reason for the addition of the SWI sequence. Methods: This type of research is a qualitative research with a case study approach. Data was collected by observation, in-depth interviews and documentation. Data analysis was carried out with the stages of data transcription, data reduction, data presentation and carried out discussions and drawing conclusions. Results: The results of the study stated that the measurement of brain volume was carried out by entering the raw data of the T1 FFE ADNI sequence image into the freesurfer software which was useful for assessing Alzheimer's dementia. Conclusions: The diagnosis is made by looking for bleeding and microbleeding using the SWI sequence in assessing vascular dementia. SWI sequences are useful in differentiating between calcification and microbleeding causing vascular dementia.

Abstract

Meningiomas commonly manifest as granulations, dense clusters exhibiting hyperintense signals on the meningeal layers and close to cranial nerves. Detailed and isotropic imaging are key in the diagnostic evaluation. Nevertheless, standard MRI sequences have been inadequate in capturing these granulations, incorporating the T2 3D CISS axial sequence for improved visualization. Our case study aims to meticulously evaluate the diagnostic imaging strategies used for meningioma cases, explicitly focusing on cranial nerve imaging. The MRI protocol encompassed axial, coronal, and sagittal T2_TSE and DWI sequences and post-contrast T1-weighted imaging. A detailed calibration of the 3D CISS sequence parameters was performed to enhance the imaging of cranial nerves affected by the suspected meningioma. Our findings highlight the necessity of a meticulous MRI protocol, which includes precise imaging sequences, to evaluate meningiomas effectively, particularly for assessing the potential involvement of the cranial nerves.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the efficiency of use by radiographers and image quality in the use of dental holders that have been modified with silicone rubber in dental radiography procedures. Motivated by the problem in the use of conventional dental holders that often cause discomfort for patients and the potential for motion artifacts, a modification with silicone rubber was proposed. The study sample involved 16 repetitions on each head cadaver using both the innovative and control dental holders. The results of the paired t-test showed a significant difference in efficiency of use by radiographers and image quality between the two groups. The efficiency of use by radiographers increased, supported by a Cohen's d value of 9.632. The modification with silicone rubber showed better images, with a Cohen's d value of 0.325, attributed to the adjustable conus guide capability according to the size of the patient's mouth and jaw as well as the increased comfort with the silicone rubber material. This study recommends the adoption of the modified dental holder to improve procedure efficiency and quality of dental radiography results.

Abstract

Background: The use of PD TSE fat saturation (FS) sequences in coronal section of the MRI knee joint routine examination revealed artifacts caused by popliteal artery pulses. Meanwhile, there is T2 FS sequence with the BLADE technique that can reduce motion artifacts, but isn't used in the knee joint routine MRI examinations. BLADE is a technique of filling radial k-space around the center of k-space, thereby reducing motion artifacts and improving image quality. The aim of this study is to determine the differences in anatomical information, artifacts, and sequences that optimally reveal the anatomical information of knee joint between the PD TSE FS and T2 FS BLADE coronal section. Methods: This study used a quantitative research methods with an experimental approach. The sample of this study are 10 healthy volunteers and 2 radiologists as respondents. Each volunteer undergo an MRI knee joint examination with the PD TSE FS and T2 FS BLADE coronal section. The results of the two sequence images were assessed by the two respondents to obtain data for assessing anatomical information on the ACL, PCL, collateral ligament, articular cartilage, meniscus, subchondral bone, and artifact information. Data that has been obtained is processed using the Wilcoxon test. Results: The results shows that there are differences in the anatomical information of ACL, PCL, articular cartilage, and meniscus between the PD TSE FS and T2 FS BLADE coronal section. Meanwhile, there is no difference in the anatomy of the collateral ligament and subchondral bone. There is also a difference in artifact information between the two sequences. Conclusions: The T2 FS BLADE sequence is more optimal than the PD TSE FS sequence in displaying anatomic information and is also more optimal in suppressing ghosting artifacts from the popliteal artery pulse.

Abstract

The major drawback of the parallel periapical examination technique is that the holder used can damage the oral tissues and cause discomfort to the patient. The objective of this study is to determine the work efficiency and radiographic quality of the innovative dental x-ray holder which has been made by adding synthetic rubber or silicone to the part of the holder that is in direct contact with the patient. This research is an experimental with a post-test only design. The analysis was performed based on filling out the questionnaire on a Likert scale ranging from 1 to 4. With the criteria 1. Disagree, 2. Sometimes, 3. Agree and 4. Strongly Agree. The test was administered by comparing the holder made with the commonly used Aphrodite holder as a control group. There were 16 repetitions of exposure to the cadaveric skull in obtaining research data for each treatment group. The results of statistical work efficiency testing on the control group resulted in a value of B = 0.125 with a significance of 0.071 and an effect of 10.5%. Meanwhile, for testing the quality of radiographic image, the value of B = 0.125 with a significance of 0.014 and an effect of 18.5% was obtained. The innovative dental x-ray holder using a silicone rubber layer is efficient and the resulting radiographic image quality is good when used in the intraoral examination.

Abstract

This study mapped the development of dengue fever research at the intersection of spatiotemporal analysis, prediction, and geographic information system-based surveillance during 2020–2025. A descriptive bibliometric design with a science mapping approach was used. Data were retrieved from Scopus using search terms related to dengue fever, spatial or spatiotemporal analysis, prediction or forecasting, and geographic information systems. After title, keyword, abstract screening, metadata cleaning, and harmonization, 360 documents were analyzed using Biblioshiny, Co-occurence network, thematic mapping, trend topic analysis, and author collaboration network analysis. The corpus showed steady scientific activity, with 175 sources, 1,945 authors, 312 articles, 48 reviews, an average of 11.75 citations per document, and an international collaboration rate of 42.5%. Indonesia, Brazil, China, the United States, and Thailand contributed strongly to publication output, while citation impact varied by country. The conceptual structure showed mature themes in dengue epidemiology, spatial analysis, spatiotemporal modeling, and prediction, but weak operational translation into web-based geographic information systems and early warning systems. These findings highlighted the need for validated, interoperable, and decision-oriented geospatial surveillance tools for dengue control.
