Abstract

This study examines emotional abuse toward adolescents from the perspective of Qur’anic interpretation, particularly through QS. Luqman [31]:13, as an effort to understand the relationship between parenting patterns and the formation of adolescent self-esteem. Emotional abuse, such as verbal humiliation, intimidation, emotional neglect, and excessive criticism, often occurs unconsciously within family environments and contributes significantly to psychological disturbances among adolescents. Employing a qualitative approach based on library research and thematic interpretation (tafsīr maudhū‘ī), this study analyzes Qur’anic values related to communication ethics, emotional protection, and the preservation of human dignity. The findings reveal that QS. Luqman [31]:13 presents a compassionate educational communication model through the expression yā bunayya, reflecting affection, emotional validation, and persuasive parenting. The Qur’an positions children as dignified human beings whose psychological well-being must be protected from destructive verbal and emotional treatment. This study argues that Qur’anic educational values provide preventive principles against emotional abuse by promoting empathy, respectful communication, and emotional security within the family. Theoretically, this research contributes to the development of Islamic psychology and Qur’anic parenting studies by positioning the Qur’an as a foundational framework for adolescent mental well-being and healthy self-esteem formation.

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between religious tolerance and coexistence from the perspective of the Qur'an as the normative foundation of multicultural society. The phenomenon of misunderstanding about the limits of tolerance, the mixing of religious practices, and the erroneous interpretation of pluralism demonstrates the importance of studies based on Islamic teachings. This study uses library research with the tahlili interpretation method for QS. Al-Baqarah (2): 256, QS. Al-Kafirun (109): 1–6, QS. Yunus (10): 40–41, and QS. Al-Hujurat (49): 13. The analysis is carried out through linguistic studies, verse contexts, and interpretations by classical and contemporary commentators. The results of this study indicate that the Qur'an emphasizes the importance of tolerance as an attitude of respecting differences in beliefs without coercion in religion, while also emphasizing the boundaries of faith. On the other hand, coexistence is understood as a social implementation of tolerance, namely living side by side peacefully, fairly, and respectfully amidst diversity. Therefore, tolerance and coexistence are two interrelated concepts in building social harmony without eliminating religious identity.

Abstract

The phenomenon of hedonism in contemporary society continues to grow alongside the currents of globalization, modernization, and the advancement of social media. A lifestyle oriented toward pleasure, luxury, and material satisfaction has influenced social behavior and given rise to various moral problems, such as consumerism, individualism, and the culture of flexing. This study aims to analyze the forms of hedonistic behavior in contemporary society and their relevance to the story of the Thamud people in the Qur’an. The research method used is qualitative research with a thematic interpretation (maudhu’i) approach to Qur’anic verses related to the Thamud people. Data were collected through library research by examining tafsir literature, scientific journals, and sources related to modern social behavior. The results of the study show that the behavior of the Thamud people bears similarities to today’s hedonistic phenomenon, namely excessive lifestyles, arrogance toward the blessings they possessed, and negligence toward spiritual and moral values. The Qur’an presents the story of the Thamud people as a lesson for humanity not to become trapped in a lifestyle that merely pursues worldly pleasures. This study emphasizes that a balanced, modest way of life oriented toward divine values is the solution offered by the Qur’an in addressing the development of hedonism in the contemporary era.
