Abstract

Abstract Introduction & Objectives : Digital media is currently being increasingly used in recent years. The development of the visual system begins as soon as a child is born through visual stimulation and interaction with the environment that develops comprehensively with the general development of children. Smartphone usage affects eye developmental process. Explain the effect of ocular biometry components and refraction change in elementary school children due to duration of smartphone usage Methods : A one-year cohort prospective study was taken on 6-8-year-old children in the selected elementary school in South Sulawesi, Indonesia divided into two groups focused on the duration of smartphone usage and its relationship to changes in ocular biometric components and refraction. Results : The ocular biometry will develop in 6 and 12 months. The axial length, corneal diameter, keratometry, central corneal thickness, anterior chamber depth increased, spherical equivalent experienced a myopic shift, while the lens thickness decreased. Smartphone usage of more 3 hours had a significant difference compared to smartphone usage less than 3 hours in changes in the axial length of the eyeballs at 6 and 12 months, spherical equivalent on examination 12 (p<0.05), while other tests were not significant (p>0.05). Conclusion : Smartphone usage more than three hours per day will cause a significant change in ocular biometry and refraction

Abstract

Introduction: The management of large-angle strabismus can be difficult for surgeons, and successful outcomes may require multiple surgeries. However, modern surgical techniques aim to achieve desired results with a single operation. Muscle transplantation is one such technique that increases the effective muscle length, allowing for a large correction in a one-stage surgery. Objective: To report the outcome of muscle transplantation surgery in large-angle strabismus. Case Illustration: Three patients presented with large-angle strabismus, of which two cases showed >50∆ ET and one case had >50∆XT. All patients had normal anterior and posterior segment findings and underwent muscle transplantation under general anaesthesia. The first and second cases showed good alignment post-surgery, with no limitations in ocular motility in all gaze directions and improved visual acuity. However, none of the cases achieved stereoscopic vision due to chronic strabismus. In the third case, improvement in the primary position was observed two weeks post-operative, but ocular motility still had limitations. Conclusion: Muscle transplantation is a good option to correct large-angle strabismus, specifically in the unilateral case in a single procedure.

Abstract

Diabetic Retinopathy is a microvascular disorder that occurs due to the long-term effects of diabetes mellitus. Diabetes mellitus (DM) is caused by metabolic disorders that occur in the pancreas organ which is characterized by increased blood sugar or often referred to as hyperglycemia which is caused by a decrease in the amount of insulin from the pancreas. This can cause damage to the retina that threatens vision and can cause blindness. Effective management requires a multidisciplinary approach that includes glucose control, medical intervention, and patient education. This study aims to determine the pathogenesis and management of Diabetic Retinopathy. This research is a literature study with a narrative review approach. The literature reviewed is literature obtained from databases that have been accredited or indexed by Sinta. The results of this literature study show that vascular dysfunction including loss of pericyte cells, formation of acellular capillaries (endothelial cell death), thickening of the basement membrane and increased capillary permeability to the closure of blood vessels leading to retinal ischemia-infarction is the pathogenesis of diabetic retinopathy. Management of diabetic retinopathy depends on the severity of the symptoms. Treatment does not only consist of observing blood sugar control, systemic hypertension and hypercholesterolemia, but also therapy such as laser photocoagulation, administration of Anti-Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (Anti-VEGF), intravitreous steroids or IVTA (Intra Vitreous Triamcinolone Acetonide), and other procedures. pars plana virectomy.
