Abstract

This research was aiming of find out the diversity of crustaceans bycatch of blue swimming crab (Portunus pelagicus) fisheries of moon period based. The method used was a survey method and sampling of crustacean bycatch was carried out during the period of bright moon (11-15 moon nights) and dark moon (27-1 moon nights). The results showed that there were 20 species of crustacean bycatch found during the study in which 17 species were found during the bright moon and 16 species were found during the dark moon. Thalamita danae species had the highest abundance during the dark and the bright moon period. The number of the male crustaceans bycatch was higher than the females for both bright and dark moon periods.Diversity index crustacean bycatch in both periods (brigh tand dark) ranged from 0.83 to 0.85. The evennes index and dominance index inthe bright and dark moon are the same (0.69 and 0.22, respectively).

Abstract

Abstract

The management of fisheries access areas is one form of ecosystem-based fisheries management, which integrates marine protected area activities with controlled fishing activities carried out by local fishermen. The objective of sustainable fishing activities in the Kolono Bay Fisheries Access Area is to enhance the capacities of both the local fishermen and the PAAP management. This initiative involves the participation of 15 managing fishermen from five villages: All located in the Kolono Bay area. The project commences with the formation of groups, followed by discussion forums group, guided by a facilitator from RARE Indonesia Sultra. The DFG sessions were held twice, each with distinct themes: (1) issues and challenges encountered by fishermen during fishing activities in Kolono Bay, and (2) concerns related to climate change. Participants exhibited great enthusiasm throughout the engagement, as evidenced by the active sharing of the challenges they have faced concerning their fishing activities in Teluk Kolono during the FGD sessions. The outreach material was presented in simple language to ensure participants' comprehension. In general, it can be concluded that the information provided during this engagement has the potential to enhance the capacities of fishermen engaged in PAAP management in Teluk Kolono to support sustainable fishing.

Abstract

The relatively slow growth rate of sea cucumber (Holothuria scabra) and limited numbers of alternative feed have prevented the development and intensification of sea cucumber aquaculture. Anecdotal evidences suggested that solid organic waste from shrimp ponds could be used as feed for sea cucumbers. However, the efficiency of assimilation and digestibility of the waste have to be tested scientifically to ensure its real potential and benefits to farmed sea cucumber. This study aimed to determine the efficiency of assimilation and digestibility of solid organic waste sourced from shrimp ponds to be used as a feed for sea cucumber. The solid organic waste was treated by mixing it with a sand substrate at 40% of the total substrate. This study used eight aquarium units measuring 40 x 30 x 40 cm3, from which, four units for assimilation efficiency tests, and the remaining four for digestibility tests. The results of this study indicate that sea cucumbers were able to make use of nutrients and energy from the shrimp solid waste-based feed, where this ability was indicated by the assimilation efficiency (AE) of organic matter of 53.20 ± 13.23%, the assimilation efficiency of total bacteria of 41.76 ± 1.69 %, total digestibility of 46.63 ± 17.57%, protein digestibility of 71.52 ± 17.11%, and phosphorus digestibility of 73.32 ± 13.83%. The findings from this research confirms that sea cucumber can use the solid organic waste nutrients from shrimp ponds as feed and has a great potential as Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture species to utilize solid organic waste nutrients from shrimp ponds.
