Abstract

This research aims to determine the role of scavengers in Kiringan Village, Magelang City, within the framework of civil society concerning their livelihoods, namely managing and recycling waste, which contributes to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 15. Waste itself has become a national problem, with the volume of garbage reaching 35,000. Ninety-three million tons in 2022 can be broken down further, with Central Java Province coming at 5.76 million tons and Magelang City at 80.51 tons per day. This condition becomes problematic amidst demands regarding the universal norm SDG 15, namely "Protecting terrestrial ecosystems". The role of scavengers is a concrete alternative solution in solving this problem. The role of scavengers will be reviewed using Tocqueville's conception of civil society, namely an organized area of social life characterized by voluntary, self-generating, and self-supporting, which is synthesized with SDGs 15, namely waste management and recycling through 3R (reuse, reduce, recycle). Interpretive analysis of field and literature studies examines and draws conclusions from research findings. The 3R activities of scavengers make waste manageable and can mitigate the waste volume. With volunteerism, self-sufficiency, and self-sufficiency, reuse activities are carried out by reusing used plastic bottles, reducing by collecting plastic waste in village areas, and recycling through the implementation of training from the Sandal Flip-flops Community so that the scavenger community can produce handicrafts from recycled waste—plastic bottles. Waste management by the scavengers of Kiringan Village has an essential role in protecting the land ecosystem from garbage. Keywords: Civil Society; Kampung Kiringan’s Scavengers; Sustainable Development Goals; Waste Management.

Abstract

Abstract

This study explores the potential of the geopolitics of ummah in uniting the Muslim community amidst the ongoing genocide in Gaza since October 2023. This genocide has sparked global support, including from Western societies. Given Palestine's status as the home of Al-Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest site in Islam, this momentum should spur the ummah to make a significant impact. The study underscores the need for the ummah to realize their potential, as demonstrated historically and through Western responses to their unity efforts. We examine this potential using the Baitul Maqdis Barakah Circle ). Data were obtained from literature studies and analyzed using critical discourse analysis (CDA) to understand how this discourse influences the thoughts and behaviors of the ummah. The results indicate that support for Palestine has heightened awareness of the liberation of thought. Islamic solutions, including struggle in the way of Allah, are gaining recognition as responses to the failure of international actors to end the Israeli occupation. These findings suggest that the ummah can play a significant role in global politics by uniting and mobilizing their strengths, including population numbers, comprehensive solutions to occupation, and material power such as natural resources and military capabilities.

Abstract

Indonesia as an agricultural country rich in natural resources, relies heavily on agriculture to support its economy, especially in Central Java where the majority of the population are farmers. However, many rural areas, such as Tegalrandu village in Srumbung, Magelang, face challenges due to limited agricultural knowledge and resources. This study aims to empower farmers in Tegalrandu by improving their agricultural practices through the use of compost as a sustainable fertilizer. This study uses the Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) methodology, which focuses on local strengths and assets to catalyze community-driven development. Participants included local farmers who were engaged through a series of workshops and hands-on training in compost production using household waste and natural activators. The results showed that farmers successfully produced high-quality compost, leading to improved soil health and crop yields. In addition, the community showed increased knowledge and confidence in sustainable agricultural practices. This study underscores the importance of participatory approaches in agricultural development, highlighting the potential of composting to not only increase crop production but also foster economic resilience among rural farmers. The implications extend beyond local agricultural practices, suggesting that similar empowerment strategies can be applied in other rural contexts to promote sustainability and community development.

Abstract

Abstract

Magelang City is currently undergoing a demographic bonus phase, marked by a large, productive workforce. However, this potential has not yet driven significant economic growth. High youth unemployment and a limited number of young entrepreneurs remain key barriers to the region’s progress. This study explores how collaborative governance helps address these challenges through the BOS Muda Program in Magelang City. Using a qualitative method with a case study approach, the research applies Ansell and Gash’s (2008) collaborative governance theory, focusing on the pentahelix collaboration model. The findings show that collaborative governance has been effectively implemented in the BOS Muda Program. The program enabled participants to start businesses and hire employees, offering a practical solution for managing demographic bonus challenges. Despite these successes, the study also highlights several barriers. Maintaining consistent participation in face-to-face dialogue sessions was difficult due to conflicting departmental schedules. Additionally, some participants dropped out because of limited capital and the program's long training period. Interestingly, the program also involved participants who were already entrepreneurs, which, although unintended, contributed positively to the program’s outcomes. Overall, the study underlines the importance of strong multi-stakeholder collaboration in ensuring that demographic advantages translate into economic opportunities for the region.

Abstract

This research explores the dynamics of transnational solidarity among Indonesian Muslims in their support of the Palestine cause, grounded in Fatwa MUI 83/2023, through the lens of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). This study investigates how religious and moral directives shape individual and collective actions. Data from questionnaires show that respondents' motivations to support Palestine stem from both humanitarian and religious convictions, amplified by the fatwa's ideological framework. The study finds that religious discourse transforms solidarity into concrete actions such as donations, boycotts, and digital activism. Furthermore, the fatwa facilitates the globalization of local actions, linking grassroots efforts to a broader international campaign for Palestinian rights. This research underscores the power of religious authority in shaping transnational solidarity movements and highlights how digital platforms enable local actions to resonate globally.

Abstract

Researchers tried to make the film Vengeance Is Mine, All Others Pay Cash For Using Chirstopher Vogler's heros journey, this theory presents twelve heroic journeys from the protagonist to become more individual than ever. In this study, there are interesting findings such as the stages of the hero's journey that can be found in this film are not sequential, indeed it only occurs in meetings with the mentor, where it occurs when Ajo is at the stage of the ordeal and also the resurrection. Meeting with the mentor occurred several times, namely when meeting Jelita and Ki Jempes. There is a shift in the protagonist, when Ajo is in prison Ajo is weakened as the protagonist and then the protagonist shifts to Iteung who will avenge Ajo. Archetype on Ggembul's uncle who has three masks namely; Herald, Threshold and Trickster.
