Abstract

Intense competition and unpredictable conditions have made problem-solving more challenging. Unlike the relatively stable markets of the 20th century, today's world is characterized by VUCA: volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity. SMEs, which make up the majority of businesses globally, are particularly affected by these changes. Entrepreneurs, as the driving force behind SMEs, play a crucial role in both developing and developed economies. Their contributions significantly impact economic growth, as recognized by governments. Research indicates that personality traits can accurately predict business behavior and success, emphasizing that entrepreneurship is a dynamic process requiring continuous effort to deliver products or services that bring financial and personal rewards. The archetype approach, which explores personal dynamics and environmental interactions, provides insights into entrepreneurial success. Archetypes represent patterns of perception, memory, and action that align with ancient motivational and emotional systems, helping to explain how the mind navigates social complexities. The Hero's Journey as an archetype framework offers a valuable perspective on personal development in a career context, addressing universal human motivations across cultures.

Abstract

Perceived supportive communication by adolescence and emerging adulthood influence how they develop their autonomy and independency and in the same time still have opportunity to gain support from their parents when they need it. The aim of this study is to develop instrument that measure perceived parents’ supportive communication by adolescence and emerging adulthood. The instrument development consists of three stages: 1) Focus group discussion (FGD) to find out the description of perceived parents’ supportive communication (35 respondents from three universities). The result of this stage is the items of the instrument; 2) Validity and Reliability testing (326 respondents of high school and university students). The result of this stage is the valid and reliable instrument; 3) Factor Analysis from 600 respondents. The result of this stage is the dimentions of the instrument; dan 4) Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) from 1065 respondents. The result of this stage is the same as final result of the whole study, that is perceived parents’ supportive communication instrument, which consists of two dimentions (empathy and confidentiality).

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the rank of importance among 13 entrepreneurship competencies and the difference of the rank between entrepreneurs and scientists. About 47 entrepreneurs and 22 scientists gave their evaluation by giving rank from 1 to 13. The Mann-Whitney U-test showed that most of the competencies were perceived important at the same rank by the two groups, except for the competence of "Information seeking" (U-test = 722, p < 0.01; Mrank entrepreneurs = 6.36, Mrank scientist = 9.33). The top three competencies that perceived highly important by both groups are initiative, seeking and utilizing opportunities, and perseverance.

Abstract

Understanding entrepreneurial success involves exploring various factors, including personality traits and their impact on business outcomes. This study explores the relationship between entrepreneurial personality archetypes and business success among SMEs in Indonesia. Using a quantitative approach, data were collected from 500 MSME entrepreneurs via paper-and-pen and online questionnaires. Pearson Correlation analysis revealed significant positive correlations between business success and the Caregiver (r = 0.243), Seeker (r = 0.340), Lover (r = 0.227), Ruler (r = 0.316), Magician (r = 0.290), Sage (r = 0.277), and Jester (r = 0.235) archetypes. In contrast, the Destroyer archetype showed a negative correlation (r = -0.222). These findings suggest that archetypes promoting self-expression and personal growth positively influence entrepreneurial success, while those focusing on efficiency and results may hinder it. The study underscores the value of aligning personality traits with business strategies to improve outcomes and recommends further research on practical applications in entrepreneurial training programs.

Abstract

Difficulties in executive function (EF) may be causative factors in clinical conditions, including learning disabilities, depression, and anxiety. However, defining the structure of EF is an ongoing issue, although Miyake’s three-factor structure is widely accepted. This study aims to discover the underlying factor structure of EF domains, as measured by five tests and the scores of 840 participants, to establish the domains’ validity and reliability. Five neuropsychological tests were included in the exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses (EFA and CFA): the Digit Span (DS); the Stroop Color Word Test (Stroop Test); the phonemic Verbal Fluency Test (pVFT); the Five Point Test (5PT); and the Trail Making Test (TMT). EFA could be meaningfully performed (KMO = .862, Bartlett’s test: ????2 =1393.169, df 45, p < .001) and yielded three factors closely mirroring the three core domains of EF. CFA of the model in which the 5PT loaded on factor 2 showed the best goodness of fit indicators, although the difference with the other three-factor models was small. Currently, these EF tests are available in Indonesia and suitable for use, although obtaining normative scores adjusted for demographic factors is necessary.

Abstract

VUCA is about a hyper-competitive and unpredictable environment. It stands for volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity. Personal attributes are necessary to navigate the VUCA environment. Studies in entrepreneurship show that narratives help people to connect different experiences. Literature shows that a narrative journey can be described through archetypes and relate to entrepreneurial behavior. This study aims to construct and validate measurements of entrepreneurial personality by adapting Pearson & Marr's archetype inventory test within the entrepreneurial context. This study was conducted as an assessment of the measurement psychometric attributes consisting of 12 archetypes. Explanatory Factor Analysis (EFA) was carried out by Oblimin rotation resulting in 60 final items. This study involved 154 small and medium entrepreneurs in Jakarta and West Java.

Abstract

The pandemic brought many changes, including for students. Various negative things experienced by students have an impact on their mental health. However, there are coping mechanisms that can bring positive changes to students' lives and help them survive the post-pandemic period. This research aimed to explore: the problems, level of stress, coping mechanisms carried out by students, and resilience level during the pandemic; the student's mental health situation during post-pandemic; and the recommendation for higher education (HE) institutions to support students' mental health. The research included 5018 students in bachelor's programs from 20 universities of APTIK members via quota sampling method on gender and class year (stage 1); and reports from students about their psychological symptoms during classes (n =  5 classes) and counseling (n = 10 cases) and literature review from explore 13 articles via Google scholar and Google search engine (stage 2). The study results show that students had many learning and social life challenges. Students who can develop positive coping with stress will be resilient and benefit from the experience during the pandemic, such as increased online learning skills, health awareness, and good time management. A positive coping strategy empowers the students to develop good mental health and survive during the pandemic, together with the support of the education system in higher education institutions. The institution should provide leadership, a good governance system, conducive teaching and learning system, and an appreciation for diversity and inclusivity to support students' mental health. The system should support the various changes experienced by students. With a good strategy and governance, there will be clarity and comfort so that it does not exacerbate the mental health problems encountered by many students. The impact is that students are more prepared and confident to connect with the industry world.
