Abstract

Factors Affecting the Work Readiness of Vocational School Students: A Systematic Literature Review. Objectives: This study aims to comprehensively identify and analyze the factors affecting the work readiness of vocational school students, employing a systematic literature review approach. It seeks to provide comprehensive insights into individual, educational, and contextual elements that shape students' preparedness for transitioning into the workforce. Methods: The research employs a systematic literature review methodology, analyzing relevant academic articles and reports published between 2015 and 2024. Sources were selected based on predefined criteria emphasizing their relevance to vocational education, work readiness, and factors shaping students' transition to employment. Key themes were identified and synthesized to construct a comprehensive understanding of the topic. Findings: The study identifies three principal dimensions influencing work readiness. First, individual factors, including motivation, interpersonal skills, self-efficacy, self-regulation, and soft skills, are crucial in equipping students to adapt successfully to professional environments. Second, the learning process, including experiential activities like internships and teaching factories, enhances students’ technical and non-technical skills by bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. Third, contextual factors—such as socioeconomic status, regional disparities, and social support systems—substantially impact students’ access to resources and opportunities, thereby shaping their career preparedness. Additionally, regional disparities in school-industry partnerships underscore the need for localized interventions to address these gaps. Conclusion: Work readiness among vocational school students is a multifaceted construct shaped by individual characteristics, practical learning experiences, and contextual influences. Developing targeted strategies, such as integrating industry-relevant practical learning models and fostering collaboration among stakeholders, can significantly enhance students’ preparedness for entering the workforce. Policymakers and educators are encouraged to address resource and opportunity disparities to ensure equitable outcomes for all students. Keywords: contextual factors, individual factors, systematic literature review, vocational school students, work readiness.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v14.i3.2024124

This study intends to empirically investigate the role of education as human capital in relation to sustainable economic growth from various previous research results. A qualitative research approach with a literature study is used to get an overview of the correlative-synergistic dimension. This research used a survey method with a quantitative approach. This study involved 1289 populations and 306 samples from three state vocational schools in Surakarta, selected using a proportionate random sampling method. The instruments used in this study consisted of Fieldwork Practice (FWP), Self-efficacy (SE), and Work Readiness (WR) questionnaires. The data obtained were analyzed by statistical testing of descriptive analysis, correlation, and mediation using path analysis. The results of this study revealed that fieldwork practices and self-efficacy contribute significantly to students’ work readiness. The analysis shows that self-efficacy serves as an important mediator in the relationship between fieldwork practices and work readiness, reinforcing the role of practice-based education in preparing students for the world of work. In this study, it was found that the development of education and training programs that focus on improving students’ self-efficacy through fieldwork practices can be a major key in the school-to-work transition.

Abstract

Online learning conducted during the pandemic is a solution to this global disaster dilemma. Students must follow government policies to carry out online learning amid their limitations. Even though technology is currently developing rapidly, there are still difficulties that cause learning at home to be not optimal. The existence of difficulties in the learning process will result in learning loss. This study aims to see the impact of learning loss experienced by students. This study uses a literature study method by describing the findings from various literature sources from previous research. The results of this study indicate that the form of learning loss experienced by students will cause lost for years and have an impact on academic performance until they become adults cumulatively. Students feel a decrease in interest in learning compared to face-to-face learning. To address learning loss, policymakers should consider targeted programs, use teaching methods, improve teacher-student communication and involve parents to accelerate recovery and minimize the impact of learning loss.
