Abstract

Successfully made adsorbent of activated carbon made from purple corn cob which aims to minimize ammonia (NH3) levels found in water in fish farming with cage ponds. Activated carbon using carbonization method with a change in temperature that is between 550°C, 600°C, and 650°C and activation using Na2CO3 solution as activator. Activated carbon that has been obtained has exceeded the standard of SNI No.06-3730-1995, with characteristics including carbon yield ranging from 79.71% to 89.85%, moisture content ranging from 11.3% to 25.4%, volatile matter content ranging from 10.10% to 24.5%, ash content ranging from 9.7% to 9.9%, and fixed carbon content ranging from 65.7% to 79.7%. Then test results were obtained such as CO2 functional groups were found to enhance the adsorption process. Activated carbon displays the presence of a predominantly amorphous structure but also revealed a crystalline carbon structure. The highest peak was obtained at 29.7° with Miller index (201). The activated carbon displays the presence of pores on the scattered surface with carbon elements dominating. Adsorption mechanism to reduce ammonia (NH3) using activated carbon due to intermolecular interaction process. So that when testing the application for ammonia absorption, the best results were obtained in the sample with an adsorbent mass of 1.50 g at a carbonization temperature of 650°C with an adsorption capacity value of 546.34 mg/g and ammonia reduction of 82%. This research can open up opportunities for the potential development of new materials, especially for fish farming through cage techniques.

Abstract

Coffee is a mainstay plantation commodity in Toba Regency which is managed independently by the community where the land around the Lake Toba area is one of the potential lands in Toba Regency for developing Arabica coffee commodities because geographically Toba Regency is located at an altitude of 900 meters to 2,200 meters above sea level and directly borders Lake Toba. The strong roots of coffee plants make this plant one of the mainstays in preserving forests, restoring critical land, preventing erosion and flooding during the rainy season. The aim of this research is to analyze the land suitability of Arabica coffee plantations in Toba Regency. The method used to analyses the land suitability by using the matching method which was carried out by matching land characteristics with parameters/ criteria for plants based on Land Map Unit (LMU). The research results show that the area of Toba Regency based on the Geographic Information System (GIS) is 207,518.31 ha. Very suitable (S1) land suitability for Arabica Coffee Plants covering an area of 67,844.68 ha (32.69%), an area of 132,030.09 ha (63.62%) has S2 suitability class and an area of 7,643.54 ha (3.68%) has marginal suitability (S3). The potential land suitability class for coffee plants in Toba Regency becomes very suitable (S1) covering an area of 67,844.68 ha or 32.69%, moderate suitable class (S2) with temperature limitation covering an area of 132,030.09 ha (63.62%) and marginal suitability (S3 with temperature limitation) covering an area of 7,643.54 ha or 3.68%. Nutrient deficiencies were corrected by adding phosphorus (P) fertilizer of 4.19 kg P/ha or 9.31 kg SP36/ha or 11.63 kg TSP/ha. Nitrogen (N) fertilizer is 75 kg N/ha or the equivalent of 166,625 Kg Urea/ha. Potassium (K) fertilizer as much as 3 kg KCl/ha. Compost fertilizer is 10.56 tons of compost/ha.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the application of Good Agriculture Practices (GAP) to nutrient absorption in the leaves of Arabica coffee plants (Coffea arabica L.) in North Sumatra Province. Data analysis method is quantitative method. The data analysis technique used in this research is descriptive analysis technique to describe the data that has been collected through field surveys which include field observations, leaf sampling and laboratory analysis results to measure nutrient content. The results showed that the application of GAP, including good soil management, planned fertilization significantly increased nutrient uptake in the leaves. The GAP managed crops showed increased levels of phosphorus compared to those managed conventionally. The application of GAP therefore not only improves soil chemical characteristics, but also increases coffee plant productivity through optimizing nutrient uptake, which can contribute to the sustainability of coffee plantations in North Sumatra. Keywords: GAP, leaf nutrient absorption, arabica coffee, north sumatra

Abstract

Automatic fertilizer mixing is required to minimize fertilizer and water mixing time because manual liquid mixing takes a long time. The fertilizer used is liquid, often known as effective microorganisms 4 (EM4) solution. To perfect the stirrer, which is still rotated manually, the DC motor provides speed control for the automatic liquid fertilizer mixer. The speed can be reduced by utilizing the Arduino Uno microcontroller so that the motor rotates according to the required speed. The main mechanical components consist of a DC motor, Arduino Uno as a microcontroller, a power supply as a source of electric current, and a container for mixing liquid fertilizer. The infrared (IR) sensor achieved high accuracy in measuring mixer rotational speed for EM4 fertilizer, with percentage errors ranging from 0.2% to 1.8% compared to tachometer readings. However, when applied to green fertilizer, the error rates varied widely, from 0.03% up to 28.05%, indicating significant fluctuations. These results highlight that the IR sensor is quantitatively reliable for EM4 fertilizer applications but requires further calibration to ensure consistent performance with other fertilizer types
