Abstract

Understanding physics concepts, especially projectile motion, among university students is still unsatisfactory. The limited use of real laboratories necessitates the need for effective learning alternatives to improve students' mastery of physics concepts. This study aims to analyze students' conceptual understanding of projectile motion using computer simulations in the form of PhET simulations. The data analysis method used is data collected using multiple-choice questions. Data analysis was carried out quantitatively by calculating test scores from students who used computer simulations. Then, scores were compared between students who used computer simulations to see improvements in concept mastery. Descriptive analysis was used to describe the level of mastery of the concept of projectile motion among students. The results showed that students who were taught with computer simulations showed significantly better scores. These findings recommend that computer simulations be used as an alternative teaching tool to help students overcome cognitive obstacles and develop their functional understanding of physics. This study implies that this research can help overcome students' difficulties in understanding complex concepts such as the law of conservation of mechanical energy.

Abstract

The tri dharma of higher education consist of teaching, research, and community service elements that must be carried out by faculty members in higher education institutions. Community service provides a platform for faculty members to contribute to society according to their respective areas of expertise. Learning is an activity carried out to achieve the goals of education. One form of the learning process in higher education is the completion of a final project. The community service provided in this case takes the form of a digital-based service, namely a database that provides convenience for students in completing their final project administration services. The community service method used in this case consists of lectures and discussions to socialize the digital system that can be used by students to facilitate the completion of final project administration tasks. Through this activity, data is collected descriptively by describing responses and feedback. The socialization activity carried out in community service has a good response rate with an achievement percentage of 82.33%, thus it can be seen as an alternative to increasing motivation in developing IT knowledge.

Abstract

The analysis of the development of STEM implementation in Junior High Schools (SMP) and Madrasah Tsanawiah (MTs) is still limited, making it unknown how widely STEM has been applied. This study aims to analyze the progress of STEM implementation in SMP and MTs from 2011 to 2024 using a bibliometric analysis. This analysis utilizes the Publish or Perish (PoP) and VOSviewer software. The research results show a total of 91 articles on the topic of STEM from 2011–2024, as retrieved using the Publish or Perish (PoP) software. The implementation of STEM is predominantly carried out in SMP, focusing more on research activities. Furthermore, Natural Science subjects are more frequently applied in STEM learning. The application of STEM is more prevalent in Western Indonesia. Visualization using the VOSviewer software generated a keyword co-occurrence network map consisting of five clusters and 26 keywords. The overlay visualization indicates several keywords that have the potential to be used as research topics. The density visualization reveals that the keyword STEM is the most frequently occurring topic in the articles. It is anticipated that the findings of the bibliometric analysis will assist researchers in developing the implementation of STEM in SMP and MTs.

Abstract

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education has attracted growing global attention, yet its development within physics learning in Indonesia remains unevenly mapped. This study conducts a bibliometric analysis of STEM-oriented physics education in Indonesian secondary schools (2010–2024). Articles were retrieved using Publish or Perish (Google Scholar), curated in Mendeley, and analyzed with VOSviewer. Fifty-four eligible journal articles were identified. The findings indicate that research on STEM-oriented physics learning expanded rapidly, peaking in 2020, and subsequently fluctuated at levels above those observed before 2018. East Java was identified as the most productive province in STEM education research related to physics learning. Furthermore, the University of Jember and the State University of Malang are the two most active institutions in publishing articles in this field. Based on keyword analysis, STEM research in physics learning predominantly focuses on the development of teaching materials, instructional models, learning outcomes, and physics subject content. Among the ten most-cited articles, four discuss STEM project-based learning. This study maps the national research landscape, providing an empirical foundation for researchers, educators, and policymakers to identify gaps, refine STEM strategies, and promote evidence-based practices. Practically, the field would benefit from broader multi-site collaborations (including regions beyond Java), more rigorous methodological reporting, and the systematic adoption of technology-enhanced resources.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the application of STEAM learning based on Logix games to improve students' critical thinking skills in science (Physics) material at SMP Negeri 8 Ambon. This study uses quantitative and qualitative research methods, a quasi-experimental type of research involving an experimental group and a control group. The sampling method is carried out randomly. The sample in this study consisted of 46 students. The design used was a pre-test post-test control group design. The research design was Quasi-Experimental. Data analysis in this study was conducted using quantitative descriptive analysis to describe the data as it is in the form of percentages and explain the data or events with explanatory sentences qualitatively and also used differential statistical analysis. The data analysis techniques used include: independent t-test and N-Gain test for test results and qualitative descriptive response test. The results of the N-Gain test found that in the control class using the conventional model, most students did not experience an increase in critical thinking skills with a percentage increase in the low category of 82.35% and a medium category of 17.65%, while for the experimental class it was found that the experimental class using the STEAM approach based on games logic on critical thinking skills experienced an increase in cognitive critical thinking skills with a percentage in the high category of 13.04%, medium of 78.26%, and low of 8.7%, this is supported by the value of the independent t-test with a 2-tailed sign value of less than 0.05 at the assumed equal variances value, there is a significant difference between the control and experimental classes where the treatment of the experimental class affects the student's grades, causing the grades to be higher than the value of the control class that was not given any treatment, so in general it can be concluded that the application of the STEAM approach based on games logic in science learning provides significant opportunities for students to develop critical thinking skills.
