Abstract

This research aims to describe the mathematical problem-solving abilities related to sequences and series among XI grade students at SMAN 1 Sakra, considering gender differences. The research follows a qualitative descriptive approach, utilizing interview-based test questions as instruments. These questions will be analyzed based on Polya’s problem-solving indicators. From a total of 70 students, six were selected—three male and three female students—to represent different levels of mathematical problem-solving abilities: high, moderate, and low. The findings reveal that high-ability male students understand problems, plan and execute solutions (though with operational errors), and perform checks without writing conclusions. Moderate-ability male students partially meet the problem-solving criteria. Low-ability male students do not meet all the indicators. Among high-ability female students, understanding, planning, execution, and checking occur, but conclusions are missing. Moderate-ability female students also fall short in completeness and checking indicators. Low-ability female students only meet the understanding phase.

Abstract

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by liveworksheet on the mathematical problem solving ability of class VIII students of SMP Negeri 19 Mataram in the 2024/2025 school year and describe the application of the PBL model on liveworksheet. This study used a quasi-experimental method with a posttest only control design. Based on the results of the t-test calculation using SPSS with a significance level of 5%, the sig value was obtained. = 0.045 which indicates that the sig value. ≤ 0.05 from these results, there is a significant difference between the average value of students problem solving ability using the PBL model assisted by liveworksheet and the class using direct learning, where the average experimental class is superior to the control class. Thus, it can be concluded that PBL assisted by liveworksheet has an effect on students mathematical problem solving skills with a large difference in the moderate category.

Abstract

Elementary school students possess diverse talents and interests, one of which includes an aptitude and enthusiasm for mathematics. These students require appropriate activity to nurture and develop their potential. Mathematics competitions serve as an effective platform to channel students' interest in the subject. This community service program was conducted with the objective of providing academic support to students at SDN 7 Mataram in preparing for mathematics competitions. The program was implemented from February to March 2025, comprising a total of 16 sessions. The method of implementation involved intensive mentoring through the administration of non-routine Olympiad-level mathematical problems. The outcomes of the program indicate that students became increasingly adept at tackling non-routine problems. This was evidenced by a marked improvement in their performance over the evaluation test on the mentoring sessions. It is anticipated that this initiative will contribute positively to the development of students’ mathematical interests and also their readiness in competing in mathematics competition.

This study aims to determine the influence of reflective thinking and self-confidence on the mathematical problem-solving ability of grade VIII students of SMPN 9 Mataram for the 2024/2025 academic year. This research is a quantitative research with an ex-post facto (comparative causal) research method. The population of this study is 163 students in grade VIII of SMPN 9 Mataram for the 2024/2025 academic year. The sample used was 55 people who were determined using the cluster random sampling technique. The instrument in this study used a reflective thinking test in the form of description questions, self-confidence questionnaires and problem-solving ability tests in the form of description questions. The results of the study showed that there was a positive and significant relationship between reflective thinking and self confidence on the mathematical problem-solving ability of grade VIII students of SMPN 9 Mataram with a contribution of 49,9%. The results of this research are expected to be an input for teachers to develop learning that encourages students to think reflectively and build confidence in solving math problems. For students, it is important to continue to practice reflective thinking skills and increase self-confidence to support the achievement of optimal learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low mathematical problem-solving ability of students, which is attributed to the use of ineffective, teacher-centered learning models. One approach that can be applied to improve students’ mathematical problem-solving skills is the problem-based learning (PBL) model. This study aims to determine the effect of implementing an ethnomathematics-based problem-based learning model on students’ mathematical problem-solving ability. The research was conducted at SMP Negeri 14 Mataram in the 2024/2025 academic year using a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design. The population consisted of all eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 14 Mataram. The research sample comprised 60 students, with 30 students in the experimental class and 30 in the control class, selected through simple random sampling. The data collection instrument was a mathematical problem-solving test. The average score of the experimental class was 77.70, which was higher than the control class’s average score of 71.40. The analysis results showed that . Furthermore, the effect size calculation yielded d = 0.69, indicating a moderate effect. These results show that the ethnomathematics-based problem-based learning model positively influences the mathematical problem-solving ability of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 14 Mataram, particularly in the topic of circles.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a local culture-based problem-posing test on linear programming material for eleventh-grade high school students and determine the content validity of the developed test based on expert judgment. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the Four-D (4D) model. The developed test was designed to measure students’ abilities in three types of problem-posing activities: pre-solution posing, within-solution posing, and post-solution posing, by integrating local cultural contexts such as economic and agricultural activities around the Sembalun area of Mount Rinjani. The validation was conducted by two mathematics education experts and one local culture expert. The results showed that the developed test achieved a high level of content validity with an average score of 3.75, categorized as very valid. Therefore, the local culture-based problem-posing test developed in this study is considered feasible and valid to be used in assessing students’ abilities to formulate, develop, and solve contextual mathematical problems.
