Abstract

This study examines the impact of the Taliban's policies on Afghan women's access to education, employment, and public participation since their return to power in 2021. By conducting a systematic literature review of peer-reviewed articles, reports, and academic papers published between 2021 and 2024, the research identifies key barriers Afghan women face in these critical areas. The review draws data from several reputable databases including Google Scholar, JSTOR, Scopus, PubMed, and SpringerLink. The findings reveal significant setbacks in women's rights, with strict restrictions on education, limited employment opportunities, and reduced participation in public life. The analysis also highlights the broader socio-economic and psychological consequences of these policies, emphasizing the detrimental impact on Afghanistan's development and international relations. The study calls for targeted international interventions, humanitarian support, and policy changes to address the gender-based discrimination imposed by the Taliban. Recommendations include sanctions against Taliban leadership, expansion of scholarship programs for Afghan women, support for Afghan-led advocacy movements, and the establishment of economic empowerment initiatives. The findings underscore the importance of international solidarity in restoring Afghan women's rights and freedoms.

Abstract

Generative AI for IoT Hydroponics Monitoring System for Smallholder Farmers in Developing Regions This is in an effort to support AI-based narrative feedback for real-time decision-making with reference to sensor data (TDS/EC, temperature) and plant context-the pertinent data are species and age. The system, therefore, consists of an ESP32 sensor device; a Flutter mobile application; and the cloud services being offered via Thingsboard and the Gemini API. A systematic approach was undertaken, including design, implementation, integration, and usability testing. The results show effective real-time data collection and secure communication, with accurate AI feedback validated by expert judgment. The results exhibited how AI and IoT could collude in aiding smart agriculture. Future work will concentrate on enhancing the accuracy of the model based on ground truth data and improving the accessibility of the platform.

Abstract

The advancement of online educational platforms offers promising opportunities for improving educational access and empowerment, particularly for women in Afghanistan, where traditional barriers often limit their participation in formal education. This study aims to examine how online learning contributes to the educational attainment, skill development, and socio-economic empowerment of Afghan women, while also exploring the challenges they face in utilizing these platforms. A quantitative survey method was employed, gathering responses from 150 female students enrolled in an online university across four faculties: Medical, Computer Science, Education, and Economics. The participants, aged between 20 and 25 years, provided insights into their experiences with online education through structured questionnaires utilizing a 5-point Likert scale. Results reveal that a significant majority of participants acknowledged the positive impact of online platforms on their academic knowledge and skills. However, challenges such as limited internet access and inadequate digital devices were commonly reported, posing barriers to full participation. Furthermore, many women expressed increased confidence and empowerment from engaging in online education, with opportunities emerging for entrepreneurship and digital work. Cultural and family expectations were also identified as factors restricting the full benefits of online learning for some participants.

Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly recognized as a transformative tool capable of fostering women’s growth and leadership across various sectors. However, disparities in access, digital literacy, and socio-cultural barriers challenge the equitable benefits of AI for women worldwide. This study aims to explore the perceptions of women regarding AI’s potential to enhance leadership opportunities and identify key obstacles hindering its inclusive use. A mixed-methods survey was conducted with women participants from diverse backgrounds, focusing on their confidence in AI’s ability to empower leadership, as well as perceived barriers to AI adoption. Quantitative data were collected through structured questionnaires, while qualitative insights were gathered via open-ended responses to provide context to the challenges faced. Results indicate that 45% of respondents strongly believe AI can improve women’s leadership opportunities, with an additional 40% agreeing contingent upon adequate support. Major barriers identified include lack of digital literacy (35%), cultural and societal restrictions (30%), and limited access to technology (25%). Notably, only 10% cited algorithmic bias as a significant concern, highlighting a potential gap in awareness. These findings emphasize the need for targeted interventions addressing digital skills training, infrastructure development, and socio-cultural norms. In conclusion, while AI holds substantial promise as an enabler of women’s empowerment, its full potential can only be realized through integrated strategies encompassing education, technology access, ethical AI design, and cultural change. Policymakers, educators, and technologists must collaborate to foster an inclusive AI ecosystem that supports sustainable gender equity and leadership development.

Abstract

Education is a vital instrument for empowering women, particularly in developing countries like Afghanistan, where social, economic, and cultural barriers often restrict access to quality education. Despite global efforts to enhance gender equality, Afghan women face persistent challenges that hinder their educational advancement. This study aims to explore how access to education influences the social and economic empowerment of Afghan women, identify the primary challenges limiting their educational opportunities, and examine the effectiveness of digital education platforms in expanding access for women in restrictive or remote areas. A quantitative survey was conducted with 120 female participants from diverse academic backgrounds—medical, economics, and computer science faculties in Afghanistan. Participants responded to a series of questions using a 5-point Likert scale, assessing perceptions related to empowerment, barriers, and digital learning. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics to determine prevalent trends and attitudes. Findings indicate that most participants agree that education significantly enhances social and economic empowerment for women. Financial difficulties, poverty, and cultural norms were identified as major barriers to accessing quality education. Additionally, digital education platforms were seen as moderately to highly effective in reaching women in remote or conservative regions, with many participants expressing comfort and willingness to engage with online learning tools. Education remains a critical pathway to women’s empowerment in Afghanistan. Addressing financial and cultural obstacles, alongside expanding digital education initiatives, is essential to promote equitable access and enable Afghan women to overcome traditional barriers. Policymakers should prioritize these areas to facilitate inclusive educational development

Abstract

Female education is a critical factor influencing social and economic development in Afghanistan, yet numerous cultural, economic, and infrastructural barriers continue to limit girls’ access to education. This study explores the impact of female education on community development in Afghanistan, aiming to identify the key benefits, challenges, and effective strategies to enhance educational access for women. The research employed a quantitative methodology, collecting data through structured questionnaires distributed electronically via WhatsApp, email, and Facebook. A total of 110 female students aged 20 to 25 from Vision Higher Education and Research Institute, representing Medical, Computer Science, and Education faculties, participated in the study. The findings indicate that female education significantly contributes to leadership opportunities, poverty reduction, improved health outcomes, and economic growth within Afghan communities. However, cultural norms and traditions remain the most significant barriers, alongside security concerns and economic hardship. Participants identified building more schools, promoting e-learning, and community awareness programs as effective methods to improve female educational access. Additionally, technology plays a multifaceted role in facilitating flexible learning, expanding educational resources, and empowering women through entrepreneurial skill development. In conclusion, the study underscores that female education is a powerful catalyst for community development in Afghanistan but is constrained by complex social and infrastructural challenges. Addressing these obstacles requires comprehensive strategies that combine infrastructure development, technological integration, and socio-cultural engagement. These findings provide valuable insights for policymakers, educators, and stakeholders committed to advancing female education and fostering sustainable development in Afghanistan.
