Abstract

Hypertension is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, and its prevalence increases with age. Hypertension is a chronic condition characterised by increased arterial blood pressure. In Indonesia, the prevalence of hypertension ranges from 45.9% in people aged 55-64 years to 63.8% in people aged 75 years and over. Hypertension is known as the "silent killer" because it often appears without symptoms and requires early detection to prevent complications such as heart disease, stroke and kidney failure. This activity uses the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) method for continuous improvement in the health examination process, including blood pressure measurement. 61 participants (14 men and 47 women) participated in this activity at the Hana Nursing Home in South Tangerang. A physical examination revealed that 11 people (18.03%) had hypertension. Regular monitoring is essential to identify high-risk individuals early, allowing them to take preventive measures and manage their blood pressure effectively. This approach can significantly reduce the risk of serious complications and improve the quality of life for seniors.

Abstract

Ultraviolet (UV) radiation, especially UVB and UVA, plays an important role in the pathogenesis of skin damage. Excessive sun exposure causes various skin problems, such as burning, dehydration, and premature aging, and increases the risk of skin cancer. Precautions such as using sunscreen, protective clothing, and avoiding peak UV exposure times are essential. Using the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) cycle, we carry out facial skin health checks, including education about sun protection, identification of skin problems, and follow-up interventions. 33 participants (11 men and 22 women) participated in this activity. It was found that the average wrinkle, roughness, moist, and UV damage were 17%, 20%, 46%, and 22.18% respectively. Early counseling and screening is essential to increase awareness, change behavior, and prevent skin problems, ultimately improving skin health and improving quality of life.

Abstract

Abstract: Obesity is a global epidemic and a significant public health problem. In the elderly population, obesity is defined as a BMI ≥ 25 kg/m². In the United States, the prevalence of obesity among the elderly is 37.1% in men and 33.6% in women over the age of 60. Obesity increases the risk of chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular disease, and can cause psychological problems such as sleep disorders and lack of self-confidence. Accurate obesity risk assessment involves measuring Body Mass Index (BMI) and waist circumference. This activity uses the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) methodology to screen for obesity in the elderly at Hana Nursing Home, South Tangerang. The screening includes anthropometric measurements of BMI and waist circumference, followed by evaluation and nutritional counseling for at-risk individuals. 9 people (14.75%) had overweight nutritional status, 3 people (4.92%) had obese nutritional status, and 35 people (57.38%) were at risk of central obesity. Routine anthropometric measurements are critical for monitoring obesity and implementing preventive measures to improve overall health outcomes, improve quality of life, and reduce obesity-related morbidity and mortality rates. Abstract

Maintaining overall body health, including ear hygiene, is very important. The ear is an important organ in the human balance and hearing system. The human ear has self-cleaning capabilities, facilitated by cerumen, which occurs naturally to protect and keep the ear canal moist. However, too much or too little cerumen production can cause complaints such as decreased hearing, itching, and dry ear canals. Cleaning your ears yourself, which often involves inserting objects into the ear canal, can be dangerous. Improper use of cotton buds can push the cerumen deeper, causing blockages and increasing the risk of injury. This activity employs the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) method to conduct ear health screening for cerumen and tympanic membranes on 61 participants at the Hana Nursing Home. The physical examination results revealed that we could not assess 6 (9.8%) right tympanic membranes, 8 (13.1%) left tympanic membranes, 19 (31.1%) right ear canals, and 21 (34.4%) right ear canals. The participant's left has prop cerumen. Increased awareness and physical examination of the ear, as early detection can improve ear health and prevent ear injury.

Abstract

Hyperuricemia is a condition characterized by elevated uric acid levels in the blood, which can increase the risk of chronic kidney failure due to the deposition of uric acid crystals in renal tissue. Education and screening for uric acid levels are crucial for the early detection and prevention of hyperuricemia, particularly in the adult population. This community service program utilized the Plan–Do–Check–Act (PDCA) approach, encompassing counseling on risk factors of hyperuricemia, uric acid level screening with Point Of Care Testing (POCT), and education on strategies to prevent chronic kidney disease. The activity involved 40 participants of productive age, with an average age of 43.97 years. The mean uric acid level was recorded at 5.74 mg/dL. Educational interventions successfully increased participants’ awareness of the importance of maintaining uric acid levels within normal limits. Routine screening enables early identification of at-risk individuals and facilitates timely implementation of preventive measures. This program highlights the importance of public education and early detection in reducing the risk of chronic kidney disease and underscores the role of preventive health efforts in improving overall quality of life. Abstract

Abstract

Urinary incontinence (UI) significantly impacts the quality of life in older adults, often resulting from multifactorial causes, including age-related changes and systemic health issues. Emerging evidence highlights the role of lipid metabolism in influencing bladder and pelvic floor function through vascular integrity, inflammation control, and tissue repair. Lipid parameters, such as apolipoproteins, HDL, LDL, total cholesterol, triglycerides, and their ratios, provide insights into metabolic health and its association with UI. This study aims to identify specific lipid-related predictors, advancing the understanding of metabolic factors in UI and informing targeted prevention and management strategies for aging populations. This study used multiple linear regression analysis to assess the relationship between lipid panel predictors and urinary incontinence in 93 elderly respondents at Bina Bakti Nursing Home. The analysis identifies apolipoprotein B, Apo B/Apo A ratio, total cholesterol, and triglyceride-to-HDL ratio as significant predictors. These variables actively influence urinary incontinence through metabolic and vascular pathways, with both positive and negative associations. Apolipoprotein B, Apo B/Apo A ratio, total cholesterol, and triglyceride-to-HDL ratio predict urinary incontinence, highlighting lipid-related impacts on vascular health, inflammation, and tissue integrity for improved risk stratification.
