Abstract

This research endeavours to address the pressing need for a tailored English language learning model for students enrolled in Polytechnic institutions specializing in Food and Beverage studies. Recognizing the pivotal role of English proficiency in global culinary communication, we aim to design a comprehensive learning model. This model harnesses the potential of social media as an innovative pedagogical tool to enhance language skills, equipping students with the linguistic competence essential for success in their field. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining quantitative and qualitative research  methodologies. Initially, a thorough needs analysis was conducted to determine the specific language requirements of Food and Beverage students. Subsequently, an adaptive learning model was designed,  incorporating social media platforms as supplementary tools for language acquisition. The model was  tested within the curriculum of a Polytechnic institution, utilizing a pre-test/post-test design to assess the  impact on students' language proficiency. The results of our study indicate a significant improvement in the English language proficiency of students following the implementation of the learning model. Quantitative analysis of pre-test and  post-test scores revealed a statistically significant increase in language skills. Moreover, qualitative feedback from students and educators highlighted the model's efficacy in enhancing engagement and motivation, thereby fostering a more dynamic and effective learning environment. This research contributes to the intersection of language education and the Food and Beverage  industry by providing a specialized English language learning model. The innovative integration of social media platforms as supplementary tools demonstrates the adaptability and effectiveness of this approach.  The findings affirm the model's potential to bridge the gap between industry-specific language requirements and educational curricula, empowering students with the linguistic competence necessary for global success in the Food and Beverage sector. This study underscores the transformative potential of technology-enhanced language learning in specialized fields and lays the foundation for future  research and pedagogical innovation. Ultimately, this research seeks to empower students, educators,  and the industry at large, enriching the landscape of culinary education and communication on a global  scale.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the contribution of online and offline room reservation methods to overall room occupancy at LINK Hotel, while also examining the implementation of an online reservation system. The primary objective is to determine how these reservation channels influence occupancy rates and to identify the benefits and challenges associated with online reservations. Data were collected using multiple methods, including observation, in-depth interviews, documentation, and a review of relevant literature. This multi-method approach provided a comprehensive understanding of the current reservation practices and their impact on hotel occupancy. The study analyzed reservation data over a three-year period, using both descriptive statistical techniques and qualitative descriptive methods to capture trends and underlying factors influencing the performance of each reservation method. The results revealed significant fluctuations in the monthly contribution of offline reservations. In 2015, offline reservations contributed an average of 6.8% to room occupancy, which decreased to 1.87% in 2016 and further to 1.62% in 2017. In contrast, online reservations consistently played a dominant role in driving room occupancy, contributing 93.41% in 2015, increasing to 98.13% in 2016, and reaching 98.38% in 2017. These figures indicate that the shift towards digital booking methods has had a substantial impact on occupancy rates. Furthermore, the study explores the operational steps involved in online reservation processes, the benefits derived from leveraging digital channels—such as improved efficiency, customer convenience, and increased reach—and recommendations for optimizing the application of these systems. The findings suggest that enhancing the online reservation experience is critical for maintaining and potentially increasing room occupancy. In conclusion, the study supports the strategic shift towards online reservations, providing actionable insights for hotel management to further capitalize on digital channels to improve occupancy and customer satisfaction.

Abstract

This review examines the Korean drama Extraordinary Attorney Woo, which narrates the life of Woo Young-Woo, a lawyer with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The series portrays the unique challenges and abilities of individuals with ASD, combining social difficulties and limited empathy with exceptional memory and intelligence. The drama seeks to inspire audiences by illustrating Woo's journey towards independence while confronting societal stigma and prejudice. The objective of this review is to critically analyse the portrayal of ASD in the series, highlighting its role in shaping public perception and fostering greater understanding and empathy for individuals with autism. The data collection involved document analysis, including a detailed review of the drama’s episodes and a literature review on autism representation in media. This method enabled a comparison of the series' portrayal with existing studies and established characteristics of ASD. The analysis focused on the authenticity and sensitivity of the depiction, its adherence to or deviation from ASD traits, and its impact on public perceptions. The findings reveal that Extraordinary Attorney Woo successfully challenges stereotypes, promotes awareness, and provides an authentic representation of ASD. The drama emphasizes neurodiversity while showcasing the challenges and triumphs of individuals with autism. However, some dramatizations of ASD traits for narrative purposes were noted, highlighting the need for careful balance in future portrayals. In conclusion, Extraordinary Attorney Woo is a significant step towards fostering inclusivity and understanding. Recommendations include further collaboration with experts to ensure accuracy and continued focus on breaking stereotypes in media representations of autism.
