Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan kesiapan sekolah Taman Kanak-kanak yang berada di kecamatan Medan Petisah untuk mengimplementasikan Kurikulum Merdeka. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dimana teknik pengumpulan data atau informasi melalui wawancara, observasi, dan dokumentasi. Informasi yang terkumpul nantinya akan dianalisis secara kualitatif menggunakan Teknik analisis data yang kembangkan oleh Miles dan Huberman. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian yang sudah dilakukan disimpulkan bahwa rata-rata sekolah TK yang berada di kecamatan Medan Petisah berada di kategori cukup siap mengimplementasikan kurikulum merdeka belajar, dimana setiap sekolah akan mulai mencoba menerapkan kurikulum merdeka tersebut pada Tahun Ajaran 2023/2024. Selain itu, salah satu penyebab rata-rata sekolah berada di kategori cukup siap dikarenakan adanya peran aktif pemerintah pusat maupun praktisi kurikulum dalam memberikan pelayanan berupa sosialisasi kurikulum merdeka di sekolah TK.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to enhance the effectiveness of the "Bank Sampah Gesit" in Rumah Gerat Village through educational initiatives and operational system restructuring. The program includes educating participants on waste management concepts, types of recyclable materials, and effective operational management, followed by a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) to design improved operational systems. Using a one-shot case study approach with pretest-posttest assessments, this initiative successfully increased participants' knowledge and understanding of waste management principles and established a functional waste management system. This system includes the types of waste managed, waste deposit recording systems, and the roles of waste collectors and sponsors in sustaining the bank. Fully supported by the Research and Community Service Institute (LPPM) of Universitas Negeri Medan and in collaboration with Roda Hijau Kota Medan, this community service program encourages active community participation in environmental conservation efforts. The goal is for this initiative to inspire the residents of Rumah Gerat Village to manage waste more efficiently, positively impacting the local environment, and creating a cleaner and sustainable environment for future generations.

Abstract

Environmental cleanliness is a socially relevant yet underexplored theme in early childhood cognitive development. While preschool education often introduces hygiene routines, little is known about how young children cognitively construct meaning around cleanliness. Most studies have focused on abstract academic domains like literacy and numeracy, while real-world issues remain marginal despite their potential to stimulate rich cognitive processes. This study investigates the cognitive profiles of six-year-old children on the theme of environmental cleanliness, grounded in Piaget’s theory of the preoperational stage. It explores how children demonstrate development across four domains including symbolic thinking, memory, language use, and imagination. A thematic assessment instrument was developed and validated through expert review, comprising 13 observable indicators. Data were collected through structured observation and guided interviews with seven children in three kindergartens in Medan, Indonesia. Findings revealed that most participants were categorized as established in memory and language use, indicating strong recall and verbal explanation of cleanliness routines. However, symbolic thinking and imagination remained in the developing range, particularly in tasks involving abstraction or causal reasoning. These results highlight the importance of contextualized, thematic assessment in revealing nuanced developmental patterns and underscore the need to foster symbolic and imaginative reasoning as part of early environmental education

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi efektivitaspembuatan Alat Permainan Edukatif (APE) berbasis sampah daur ulang sebagai strategi pengelolaan sampah di masyarakat desa, khususnya di Bank Sampah Gesit, Desa Rumah Gerat. Penelitian dilakukan menggunakan pendekatan Participatory Action Research (PAR) yang melibatkan pelatihan kepada pengurus Bank Sampah dalammemanfaatkan sampah daur ulang untuk membuat APE. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pelatihan ini meningkatkan keterampilan dan kesadaran pengurus dalampemilahan dan pemanfaatan sampah. Selain itu, kreasi APE dapat menjadi salah satu strategi pengelolaan sampah yang efektif dan berbiaya rendah, yang dapat diimplementasikan tanpa memerlukan alat-alat canggih. Meskipun demikian, terdapat tantangan terkait keterbatasan waktu dan bahan baku untuk produksi APE dalam skala besar. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan siklus penelitian lanjutan untuk merumuskan model dan strategi pengelolaan sampah daur ulang yang lebih tepat dan berkelanjutan bagi masyarakat desa.

Abstract

Field trips are not merely an escape from the classroom; they are powerful tools to bridge theoretical concepts with real-world experiences. The fire disaster mitigation program for early learners at a local fire station introduced children to essential fire safety practices while reshaping their understanding of heroism and inspiring new aspirations. This study aimed to evaluate the program's implementation, its impact on children’s understanding of fire safety, and the development of critical thinking and career aspirations. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through direct observation, interviews with students, teachers, and parents, and an analysis of program materials. Thematic analysis revealed that children gained a deeper appreciation for real-world heroism, comparing firefighters to figures like Captain America and Iron Man, while also reflecting critically on fire safety concepts, such as the importance of safe assembly points in their daily environments. Additionally, the program sparked new career aspirations among the children, particularly among boys, although gender stereotypes persisted with fewer girls expressing interest in firefighting. Despite its strengths, such as engaging presentations and hands-on simulations, the program exhibited limitations, including minimal parental involvement and a lack of diverse role models. These findings suggest that targeted improvements, such as incorporating follow-up activities, enhancing parental engagement, and introducing gender-inclusive narratives, could significantly enhance the program’s impact.

Abstract

Aspek perkembangan sosial emosional anak usia dini merupakan salah satu aspek penting yang berkontribusi terhadap kemampuan anak untuk mengelola emosi, berinteraksi dengan lingkungan, serta membangun hubungan sosial yang sehat. Aspek ini mencakup kemampuan anak dalam mengenali dan mengekspresikan emosi secara tepat, serta berpartisipasi aktif dalam kegiatan kelompok. Pada penelitian ini, perkembangan sosial emosional anak usia 5-6 tahun diamati melalui kegiatan permainan membuat bentuk manusia menggunakan berbagai media. Penelitian dilakukan di salah satu TK swasta di Kota Medan dengan melibatkan 10 siswa yang dipilih secara purposive berdasarkan kriteria tertentu, seperti rentang usia dan keterlibatan dalam kegiatan belajar aktif. Penelitian deskriptif ini menggunakan metode observasi dengan instrumen penilaian berbentuk ceklis yang dirancang untuk mengukur indikator perkembangan sosial emosional. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar anak berada pada kategori Berkembang Sesuai Harapan (BSH) pada aspek sosial, sementara aspek emosional lebih dominan pada kategori Mulai Berkembang (MB). Keterbatasan penelitian ini terletak pada jumlah sampel dan hanya fokus pada satu kegiatan tertentu, sehingga disarankan untuk penelitian selanjutnya melibatkan sampel yang lebih besar dan beragam guna meningkatkan generalisasi hasil.

Abstract

This study is identifying elementary schools teacher attitudes towards video conferencing platform implementation during Covid-19 pandemic. The research aims include (1) to identify teachers™ attitude towards implementing video conferencing platforms for learning (2) to identify teachers' challenges encountered during implementing video conferencing and how to overcome that challenge. The 103 elementary schools teachers were included. The teacher selected by simple random sampling techniques. The questionnaire's content is based on teachers' attitudes toward using video conferencing in the classroom during the COVID-19 epidemic, as measured by the following indicators: efficiency, effectiveness, motivation, and variety of obstacles. The elementary schools teachers™ attitude shows positive responses to video conferencing in learning such as providing various learning activities, providing flexibility in teaching process, easiness to access learning materials, and ease in assessing and monitoring students' learning progress. Furthermore, the result reveals the majority of the elementary schools teachers faced technical issues and availability as obstacles in implementing a video conferencing platform. The majority of elementary schools teachers were able to resolve these technological difficulties by exploring other teaching strategies and seeking professional advice.

Abstract

Sebuah lingkungan belajar yang kondusif sangat penting untuk menciptakan pengalaman belajar yang optimal bagi anak usia dini. Anak-anak yang belajar dalam lingkungan yang aman dan nyaman cenderung lebih mudah berkonsentrasi dan fokus pada pembelajaran. Mereka juga lebih mampu memahami informasi dan mengingatnya dengan lebih baik. Selain itu, lingkungan belajar yang kondusif dapat membantu anak-anak mengembangkan keterampilan sosial dan emosional. Lantas bagaimana menyediakan lingkungan belajar yang kondusif untuk anak?Melalui metode kualitatif dengan teknik wawancara, observasi dan dokumentasi dengan seorang pendidik di TK Yazid Arrizqi di jalan Sekata, Karang Berombak, Medan Barat di temui bahwa Cara menjaga sarana dan prasarana dalam lingkungan belajar antara lain: Rutin membersihkan fasilitas dan peralatan, merawat dan memperbaiki fasilitas yang rusak atau aus, menjaga kebersihan dan kesehatan lingkungan. Peran guru sangat penting dalam menciptakan lingkungan belajar yang kondusif. Guru harus memastikan bahwa ruangan kelas bersih, teratur, dan aman untuk digunakan.

Abstract

Amid the growing integration of digital communication in everyday life, parenting is no longer confined to the private domain of the nuclear family. In many residential settings, particularly in suburban neighborhoods, caregiving has become a collective effort facilitated by digital platforms such as WhatsApp. However, this form of distributed digital parenting remains underexplored, especially within communal cultures like those found in Indonesia. This study aims to explore digital co-parenting practices in a WhatsApp group of residents living in a suburban housing complex in North Sumatra, focusing on the shared supervision of children aged 4–6 who frequently play in communal neighborhood spaces. Conducted from February to March 2025, the research adopted a netnographic approach, collecting data from WhatsApp group conversations, direct observations, and interviews with parents. Thematic analysis was applied and interpreted through the lenses of communities of practice, social capital, and affordance theory. The findings reveal that WhatsApp serves as a key medium for trust-based caregiving, emotional support, and collaborative child supervision. This study contributes to emerging understandings of digital gotong royong in parenting. The article also discusses the study’s implications, limitations, and recommendations for future research.
