Abstract

This Community Service (PkM) activity aims to transfer knowledge related to essential soft skills required in the profession of Kundenberater (customer consultant) to students of the German Language Education Study Program. The initiative is driven by the growing need to equip students not only with academic knowledge but also with non-technical competencies that support their readiness for the workforce, particularly in intercultural communication and customer service. The methods applied include interactive dialogue, group discussions, and Q&A sessions, which encourage active participation and critical reflection among the participants. Through this approach, students gain not only theoretical insights but also the ability to connect this knowledge to real-life situations they may encounter in the field. The outcomes of the activity show an increased understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a Kundenberater, along with the communication skills required in such a role. Moreover, the activity enhances students’ confidence in engaging in professional interactions. The conclusion of this program emphasizes that knowledge transfer through dialogue and discussion is effective in fostering awareness and foundational soft skills relevant to the job market, particularly within the context of German language education.

Abstract

Writing is one of the productive skills in foreign language learning that requires systematic thinking, vocabulary mastery, and a good understanding of grammar. At A2 level, students are expected to be able to convey simple ideas in writing with the correct structure and appropriate context. The Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach is one of the learning strategies that links the subject matter with students' real experiences, so it is expected to increase their motivation and writing ability. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the CTL approach on German writing skills of A2 level students. The research was conducted using experimental method in German Language Education Study Program. The research subjects were students who took the A2 level writing skills course. The data collection instrument was a writing test that was prepared based on the indicators of A2 level writing skills according to the Goethe Institute. The results of the analysis showed that students who took part in learning with the CTL approach experienced a significant improvement in writing skills. This is evidenced by the results of statistical tests which show that t-count value of -13.330 with a significance (p-value) of 0.000 was obtained. Due to the significance value <0.05, the null hypothesis is rejected. That is, there is a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores. This shows that the CLIL approach has a significant effect on improving students' German speaking skills. Based on these findings, the CTL approach is considered effective in supporting the development of German writing skills, especially at the A2 level. Therefore, this approach can be a viable alternative to be applied in the learning process to create a more meaningful and contextualized learning experience for students.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the denotative and connotative meanings found in the lyrics of the song “Atemlos durch die Nacht” by Helene Fischer. A song is an effective medium for conveying messages and emotions through a combination of melody and lyrics. The lyrics of “Atemlos durch die Nacht” were chosen because of their deep emotional expression and the song’s historical significance as one of Germany’s most successful songs. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method focusing on semantic analysis to identify the literal (denotative) and implied (connotative) meanings in each line of the song’s lyrics. Data were collected through document analysis, and each lyric was interpreted according to its contextual meaning. The findings show that each lyric of the song contains both denotative and connotative meanings that express feelings of freedom, love, and enthusiasm. The denotative meanings present the literal interpretations of the words, while the connotative meanings reveal emotional and symbolic associations related to human experiences of joy, affection, and liberation. In conclusion, the study highlights that linguistic elements in song lyrics can serve as powerful tools for expressing human emotions and cultural values through layers of meaning.

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the assessment system for German language learning based on the Merdeka Curriculum in the West Seram and Central Maluku regions. Utilizing a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, and document analysis. The findings indicate a contradiction where 65% of teachers perceive the current assessment quality as inadequate, yet the same percentage also believe it meets educational needs, highlighting a disparity between perception and practice. The study recommends adopting a more comprehensive, competency-based assessment model to better align with the Merdeka Curriculum. The current assessments are predominantly focused on cognitive aspects, lacking integration of speaking and listening skills. This study identifies challenges in implementing the Merdeka Curriculum, including limited resources and varying teacher understanding. Proposed recommendations include the adoption of a more comprehensive competency-based assessment system, authentic assessments, performance rubrics, and portfolios to document student progress. It is hoped that the results of this research will enhance the quality of German language learning and effectively support the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum.
