Abstract

Palm oil plantations in Eastern Aceh face a challenge: an excess of underutilized palm frond waste, creating environmental and economic burdens. To address this, a study explored empowering local communities to transform this waste into valuable handicrafts, promoting a green economic model. Despite the economic benefits of the palm oil industry, high unemployment persists, especially among the youth in palm-producing areas, with little awareness of the potential in palm frond waste. An apprenticeship program was implemented, providing hands-on training in crafting products like plates, handbags, and prayer mats. This training likely increased participants' confidence and curiosity. By equipping participants with skills before explaining the program’s aim of waste-to-wealth transformation, a strong foundation was laid. The study highlighted participants' enthusiasm and success in producing handicrafts post-training. This community-led approach, focused initially on skill development, shows potential for green economic transformation in Eastern Aceh, reducing waste and creating new income streams, potentially aligning with the region's Halal-tourism sector.

Abstract

This study explores how e-wallets promote financial inclusion in Besitang, a non-metropolitan Indonesian city. We investigate the influence of features, promotions, and brand image on e-wallet purchasing decisions. A quantitative survey targeting 100 smartphone-owning workers and students was conducted. Analysis revealed that all three factors (features, promotions, and brand image) have a significant positive impact on e-wallet usage (p < 0.05). Together, they explain 80.7% of the variation in purchasing decisions, highlighting their crucial role in e-wallet adoption. These findings emphasize the importance of e-wallet providers implementing innovative features, attractive promotions, and a strong brand image to drive financial inclusion in non-metropolitan areas. The study offers valuable insights for e-wallet companies and opens avenues for further research on e-wallet adoption drivers.

Abstract

AbstractThis study investigates the potential of minimalist lifestyle trends, emerging as a counter-narrative on these platforms, to influence the consumerist behavior of this demographic from an Islamic economic perspective. Rapid technological advancements have significantly impacted lifestyles, notably fostering consumerism among Indonesian Generation Z, often fueled by social media platforms like TikTok. Employing a qualitative descriptive analytical approach, this research examines the extent to which the application of minimalist principles can impact consumerism among Indonesian Gen Z. The findings indicate that while a minimalist lifestyle holds considerable potential to curb consumerism, its full implementation is hindered by deeply ingrained consumerist habits driven by social media trends. This study concludes that understanding and applying minimalist principles, informed by Islamic economic teachings emphasizing moderation and the avoidance of extravagance, can offer a viable alternative to the prevailing consumer culture among Indonesian Generation Z. The implications of this research lie in providing insights for educators, policymakers, and Islamic institutions seeking to promote balanced consumption patterns among youth in Indonesia

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study investigates the influence of key financial management strategies on the Return on Assets (ROA) of Islamic Commercial Banks (ICBs) in Indonesia. The analysis explores the direct and indirect effects of Funding Deposit Ratio (FDR) and Non-Performing Financing (NPF) on ROA, with Operational Costs to Operational Income (BOPO) as a mediating variable. The findings reveal a significant influence of FDR on ICB performance. While a higher FDR leads to lower operational costs, it might also be associated with lower profitability due to deposit interest rates. ICBs need to strike a balance between cost-effective deposits and exploring alternative funding sources. While the direct effect of NPF on ROA is unclear, it significantly impacts profitability indirectly through its influence on operational efficiency. Higher NPF levels can lead to increased costs, potentially reducing ROA. Therefore, effective NPF management is crucial for ICBs. The study further emphasizes the importance of managing operational efficiency (BOPO). Lower BOPO, indicating efficient use of operational income, is directly linked to a higher ROA. ICBs should focus on cost-saving measures and optimizing operational processes to improve efficiency and maximize ROA. Overall, the research highlights the critical role of a holistic approach to financial management in ICBs. By effectively managing FDR, NPF, and BOPO, ICBs can achieve a well-balanced funding structure, minimize bad debt risk, and optimize operational efficiency. Keywords: Islamic Banking, Performance, Credit Quality, Operational Efficiency, and Return on Assets.

Abstract

This study explores Kota Langsa, Aceh Province, Indonesia's potential as a halal industry hub-city, addressing gaps in Shariah-compliant urban models. Novelty lies in integrating halal principles with the hub-city concept, grounded in Islamic values of justice, fairness, and sustainability, offering a fresh theoretical framework for Islamic urban economics. Adopting a phenomenological design, in-depth interviews, focus groups, and document analysis were conducted to collect data from the stakeholders. As a result, in the purpose of ensuring halal authenticity, there were significant challenges of inadequate infrastructure, lack of skilled workers, and weak regulations. Responding to the challenges, a five-pillar strategy is proposed: Halal Industry Cluster Development, Infrastructure Enhancement, Human Capital Building, Regulatory Strengthening, and Public-Private Partnerships. This model contributes to Islamic economic theory by showing how to embed ethical practices and social responsibility into urban development. It provides actionable recommendations for policymakers, urban planners, and Islamic finance experts, helping Kota Langsa to drive regional growth by bridging urban development with halal ecosystems.
