Abstract

Tanjung Alai is among the nagari working towards becoming a central area for dragon fruit production. However, in the development of its cultivation, Tanjung Alai nagari community has found various obstacles in its cultivation technology, especially in maintenance technology and pest and pest control. Of course, this will indirectly reduce the quality and quantity of dragon fruit production. In response to these problems, we provide solutions that can overcome Nagari Tanjung Arai's partner problem by conducting educational activities on the introduction and control technology of pests and diseases of dragon fruit. The implemented activity model includes activities to provide information on various technologies for controlling plant pest organisms that hinder the development of dragon fruit growth and production, and continues a sharing session to determine the level of understanding of the agricultural community of the information presented. Based on the review of the implementation of this activity, it can be seen that the education carried out can improve the ability and insight of Dragon fruit farmers in overcoming and tackling plant-destroying organisms that hinder the development of Dragon fruit.

Abstract

South Solok Regency is one of the areas in West Sumatra that has quite high mangosteen production. Based on preliminary studies in the field, it can be seen that many people grow this plant, both in yards and gardens, which has quite a high diversity of morphological forms. The aim of this research is to explore mangosteen plants spread across South Solok Regency, as well as observe the characteristics of mangosteen plants, especially the vegetative parts of the plant. The sampling or accession technique was carried out randomly and deliberately. Cluster analysis was carried out with PBSTAT and displayed in the form of a dendogram. The results of cluster analysis of 111 plant accessions showed that there were 4 clusters of mangosteen plants which had characteristics and traits that dominated each cluster. The dissimilarity coefficient obtained ranges from 0.00 – 1.2. Cluster I consists of 26 accessions and Cluster II consists of 25 accessions with a dissimilarity coefficient value of 0.65, while Cluster III consists of 27 accessions and Cluster IV consists of 33 accessions with a dissimilarity coefficient value of 0.9. Keywords: Mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana .L), clusters, morphological characters

Abstract

The development of superior cultivars and the availability of high-quality seedlings require stable in vitro propagation. This study evaluated the effectiveness of different culture media for the in vitro propagation of local West Sumatra cayenne peppers using a Completely Randomized Design with eight treatments and six replications. Further testing used the Duncan Multiple Range Test. This research was conducted in the tissue culture laboratory of Mahaputra Muhammad Yamin University, Solok, West Sumatra. Callus initiation and shoot regeneration were conducted on MS medium with various auxin–cytokinin combinations, while root induction was tested on MS and WPM supplemented with auxins. Explants consisted of the first leaf and epicotyl from 21-day-old chili seedlings. The highest callus induction (100%) was observed on MS medium supplemented with 3 mg/l BAP + 0.5 mg/l IAA and MS medium supplemented with 4 mg/l 2,4-D for both types of explants. The highest embryogenic callus formation (98.45%) was obtained on MS + 3 mg/l BAP + 0.5 mg/l IAA. Optimal shoot regeneration (5.29 shoots) was achieved on MS + 2 mg/l BAP + 1 mg/l NAA, whereas the best root induction occurred on WPM + 1 mg/l NAA.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills require a fundamental understanding of content in order to understand, analyze, and evaluate information. Therefore, learning critical thinking skills requires a good combination of student-centered learning and teacher-centered learning. One such student-centered learning approach is Project-Based Learning (PjBL). The purpose of this study was to determine the differences in critical thinking skills of students who learn chemistry using innovative project-based learning and those without innovative project-based learning. The sample in this study was students of class XII MIPA 3 (Control Class) and class XII MIPA 4 (Experimental Class) of SMA Negeri 3 Solok. Based on the test results, it was found that there were differences in critical thinking skills between students who learned chemistry using innovative project-based learning and those without innovative project-based learning. Where the results of the Independent Samples Test - T showed that the p-value was > 0.05. So it can be concluded that the critical thinking skills of students who learned chemistry using innovative project-based learning were better than those without innovative project-based learning.

Abstract

Tomato (Lycopersicum esculentum L.) is a horticultural crop of considerable economic importance, valued for its nutritional and functional properties. Despite its potential, enhancing tomato productivity remains a critical challenge. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of integrated fertilizer application and to determine the optimal dosage of the combination of goat manure bokashi and banana peel–based liquid organic fertilizer (POC) on the vegetative growth and fruit yield of tomato plants. The experiment was conducted from April to July 2024 in Supayang Village, Payung Sekaki District, Solok Regency, West Sumatra Province, situated at an elevation of 700 meters above sea level. A Randomized Block Design (RBD) was employed, comprising six treatment groups and four replications. The treatments included: PO (control), P1 (bokashi 20 tons/ha + POC 120 ml/L), P2 (bokashi 20 tons/ha + POC 170 ml/L), P3 (bokashi 20 tons/ha + POC 220 ml/L), P4 (bokashi 20 tons/ha), and PS (POC 220 ml/L). Statistical analysis revealed that the integrated application of goat manure bokashi and banana peel POC significantly influenced plant height, stem diameter, days to 50% flowering, harvest time, and fruit count per plant. However, no statistically significant effect was observed on fruit weight per plant across the treatments.
